The AM modification i would not recommend for this radio due to major intermod interference thruout the band 118-136mhz. Although the radio can receive the aircraft band on AM, it does not work all that great.
Also, 140-150mhz is the stock transmit frequency range from ICOM right out of the box, their is no way to alter the ranger to 144-148mhz transmit only. Strange i know.

Yup, there not to bad at all. I find the TX range kinda strange tho.. 140-150mhz. No idea why ICOM would have left that range open like that instead of 144-148mhz TX only.

Nice! That radio will live a good few more years. It looked like it was heading for an early doom there by either a shorted power cable or losing the PA by the coax shorting out. Good job restoring it to a nice reliable rig once more. It's a nice radio and I'm sure your friend will get lots of use from it. I was very surprised to see that the heatsink gets hot enough to melt the jacket on the coax pigtail though. Didn't think they generated that much heat - but then I don't really TX often, being more of an eavesdropper. Ha ha. 73 buddy, great content as always.

That radio sure needed some attention, and you know me, i could not let it out of the house in the state that it was in. That radio got the attention that it needed so bad, i am glad that the owner is very pleased with the outcome.
