I am growing the daikon radish this year and love them. They are very mild and am going to try pickling them. The daikon and the French breakfast works wonderfully in a chicken and strawberry salad with a raspberry vinaigrette.

Three things about Radishes. 1. They are great first crop for junior gardeners. The big seeds are the fight size for little hands and the fast germination and growth keeps them interested. 2. People on the popular low carb Keto diet and diabetics like me are using them as a replacement for starchy vegetables. Radish Hash Browns! 3. Hands down the best microgreen. Fast growing and tasty. Even in a window they’re great. Especially in a window, really. The leggy-ness from the lower light is actually a plus with microgreens. I grow a mix of daikon, China red and Triton: spicy and colorful. And they only take about a week to 10 days.

Radishes are delicious when roasted in the oven or fried in butter with salt and pepper. They get soft and sweet and taste a bit like a potato Also great pickled.

I've made radish soup with young radish greens and it's very tasty. Top the soup with finely sliced radish. Pretty and very nutritious.

I grow mine with eggplant. The eggplant grow slow so it is like getting free radishes. Radish is out before eggplant needs the space.

I can't grow enough radish for our markets. At one market I will bring 50-100 bunches and be sold out in about 30 minutes and at another one it's good if I sell 15. Some are picky on how big they are.

My radishes and many other crops ( arugula, kale, turnips, etc) suffer terribly from flea beetles. What can I do about that?
@JoshSattinFarming4 жыл бұрын
Cover them with insect netting from the start or grow them during a different time of year.

Radishes have the worst PR agent. I love all food and gardening but since I was a kid I thought i hated radish. My mom grew em and used em in salad and I thought they ruined the salad. I just recently are 47yo found out the glory of baking a plain radish for 15 min. It removes the butter and makes it like a mild firm onion. I bet if you had baked radishes fresh at the stand to taste test ppl would buy way way more odten

I'm 33 and hated radishes until I had them roasted recently too! Nearly burning root veggies makes them so much tastier! Korea and Japan use radishes in ways I'm learning to like (my kids like the yellow pickled Korean radish) but I sympathize with your radish experience. My mom used to ruin our salads with raw sliced, SPICY!, PEPPERY!, radishes too 😝

store in the crisper drawer with high humidity setting. Or store in a ziplock bag right after washing.

A bowl with just enough water to cover a 1/2" up the radishes. Change water every 2 days. It will keep the greens crisp and prevent the radish bulb from becoming too leathery.
