Next evolution of the show, invite your fans over and feed them...I volunteer. I have a friend who buys eggs by the case. She gives me the cardboard separators and I cut off the bottoms of the cups. When finished, it looks like 30 funnels side-by-side. I use this as a template for planting small seeds. Place on ground, drop 1 seed in each hole, push into soil then cover. You can also use the standard 12 hole egg carton-makes planting-spacing easy. Thanks for all you do.

Nice to meet you, Coley! Those are some good ideas. My radishes rarely make it to the kitchen. That french breakfast radish always goes pithy for me! I'm now trying to mulch and water them more. I'm trying that watermelon radish as well. It looked so funny on the package, i had to have it. Strangely, it said i needed to sow them start summer to get good growth. Hmm... We will see. I guess they are more like a daikon. Pickling sounds great to me. Never done that before. Never cooked them either. Let's say i'm not the most experienced cook or adventurous for that matter. often a clear recipe works best for me personally. Some of my favorite weekly recipes come from step by step videos. It's now even harder to make things tasty as i just recently turned vegan.... or trying. Yesterday i thought, bleeh... sat down at the chinese restaurant and stuffed my face. Anyway, i like this video a lot and i will try to be a bit more adventurous with my vegetables!

Superb video! I have had similar issues with growing radishes, so that section was very helpful. I also have a large bed of chives but had never thought of cutting the heads into individual blossoms, thanks Coley! All in all, this video was informative and well thought out. I appreciate the numerous cuts because it condenses the material. Coley's video was going in and out of focus, but I'm pretty sure you knew that (trying to be helpful). I think it's a good idea to stick to just a couple of plants. Please make more - I'm a HUGE FAN of this idea!!

Thanks for the effort to link gardening and eating the crop. This type of show was on pbs years ago. Loved it. man picked crop after tips on successfully growing it, put it in basket and says...lets go into the kitchen and see how to prepare it for a meal. Next shot is cook emptying the basket and discussing how to wash, cut and prep the crop and cook it. This is called a "handoff" to link two people to a task. Tone down verbal energy a bit, but Coley has confident presence and ideas and enthusiasm that is great. Cutting chives with a sizzors is also a home option. storing in fridge in glass with plastic cover works too. Drying it is possible. Your "B roll" of close ups need more shots, graphics add a lot, production value takes time, however. Tell us what you are going to teach, teach it, tell us what you taught. Enunciation on "coley Cooks" needs work. Hope this helps you. look forward to more.

Gary & Chloe, well from the feedback, I guess there will be another "Grow it, cook it, eat it" episode. It was indeed a good blend to go from growing to cooking the harvest. I thought it interesting that the name Chloe was a Greek name that meant "Green Shoot" and the title Chloe was borne by Demeter, Greek goddess of agriculture. It kind of fits what you do, don't you think? Have a great day Growing, Cooking, and Eating. I'll be looking forward for the episode 2 real soon.

absolutely love it. started a big garden(for me) for the first time and you're my go to guy for anything I need. I'll need lots of cooking ideas and this will be a brilliant series. For my garden, I used almost entirely Walmart recycleable grocery bags, most with containers like the kiddie pool grow system but I used under bed tubs I had. everything is doing well, except my pepper transplants I bought had crazy deformed leaves. seems like edema possibly. I think I've corrected it though. side note, I'd love to see vids on how to handle strawberry fungus/problems from you, I haven't found any on your channel.

I've been looking for something like this and now you've done it! Thank you so very much! I'm new to gardening and I made the (pleasant) mistake of growing things that I'm not used to cooking and eating. This series should really help me out! I was considering trying to video myself with starting out my garden. Then people could help me with all my mistakes. I decided against that because I don't know the first thing about videoing or gardening so I figured it would be too much to learn at once lol If anyone knows of another channel that does something like that, could you point me in that direction so I can try to learn more about gardening? Thanks in advance! Again, GREAT idea with this series! Thank you so much!

I think this is a great idea for a series!The information was interesting and useful. Since both segments contain a lot of information that gardeners/cooks would want to retain and use it might be helpful to limit each episode to only one food item. That way if someone is interested in growing radishes but not chives they could watch only the food they were interested in or if they go back to the episode for reference it would be easier if it were only one food. I loved her pictures especially the watermelon radish but would like to see her make one of the recipes during the episode . I can't wait for a zucchini episode!!!😀

Looking forward to better success with growing radishes and trying your radish recipes. I've been chopping up excess chives (i have 5 yr old bunches about 8 inches around) and sprinkling them on flowers that the deer like and to keep bug off plants, especially brocolli type plants and beans, as it confuses the bugs. I do this every few days so their is always fresh chives in the garden.
@THERUSTEDGARDEN8 жыл бұрын
Exactly bugs follow scent and the chives are a good mask. I do the same with my old clumps. Especially in my zuke patch.

that's a great tip. I'm dealing with multiple bug issues in my garden right now. caterpillars, aphids, slugs, you name it. Need to do some serious damage control.

Love this idea, always looking for new ways to use my garden produce. As you create new videos would like to see some categorization to quickly find a recipe for a particular vegetable...playlists for salads or a focus on a particular vegetable for example or a recipe listing with time marks in the description...not sure how to go about it but if you create many videos indexing becomes important vs having to scroll through pages of videos to find a particular one. thanks Gary
@THERUSTEDGARDEN8 жыл бұрын
We will work on the categorizing. It is hard as the playlists are limited and I have mine used. We will work on links in the description and work on that.

I like the format. As much as I enjoy youtube sometimes I want simple and quick info or references. I think that if any growing or cooking tips are mentioned it would be nice if a link was included in the description. That way if someone wants more detailed info from either of you it is easily accessible. Thanks.
@THERUSTEDGARDEN8 жыл бұрын
That is what we are trying to balance. Some want more cooking and details, some want less but with links to details. And probably to keep the series fresh, ideas you are all giving us will be rotated in and out.
@ColeyCooks8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We are trying to figure out the best place to put links, as we have much more detail in other places on the web that can be referenced.

I would really like to see an ingredient list in the description box for each recipe, other than that great job I really like this idea of combining eating and growing into one video.

13 days of rain. Big deal! We have had 13 days of rain here in El Paso. Starting in 2009 we had two days each year until 2015. So, there is 13 days. Back To Eden was my solution. TYVM

+Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden) Yes! how about an herb and a vegetable each time! and try ones that aren't always so common. Brussel sprouts, rutabaga, chard, parsnips etc.
