Amazing video, better than most uni lecturers at explaining things and i now understand ALMOST everything i need to know... however, the question i cant seem to get answered is; can you do too much oversampling? for example using oversampling on a compresser, then inside a clipper, and then in a limiter (lets pretend CPU is NOT an issue at all) would it be better to wack all of them on max when rendering

great video. i like star my mastering chain with light clip at very first to remove any "abnormal" spike. kazrog kclip free is my "go to" first clip. the other one, in the loudness section of the chain, is ash-ultra from acustica audio

Great video.. Thanks.. As a note I wouldn't use different oversampling for offline bounce, as you'll get different representation of artifacts / harnonics/ tone to what you're hearing in real time.. It might be better it might not, but it's a factor to take into consideration.

If I need any compression in the master chain, I will do a very small amount of clipping (usually soft) before the compressor and after some EQ... (especially if I'm doing any low cuts). I like to use Pro L2 on a slow attack and a fast-ish release to essentially make it a soft clipper before my last limiter.

Your mastering bus is so similar to mine, try to use acousticas ASH and firetheclip, you will love the color and rich sound it gives. Also on each bus i like to use already clipper to control peaks of certain instruments, it can give up to 0.5-1dB in RMS just by controlling them. give it a try if you have time! very nice tutorial tho! :)

I've used Gullfoss a lot in the past on masters, I had stopped for a while because I felt it took away too much life in the master, I would never even push maybe up to 8%, maybe even 4/6. You were pushing 20% on each setting that's not overkill?

How is it overrated? It's pretty simple really... It gets rid of aliasing and other artifacts from distortion.

I disagree. Oversampling really helps rein in distortion. Yes, plug-ins and audio software has come a LONG way, especially in the past 10-12 years. But why not oversample if you can?
