They were to sing this together at the opening of the Barcelona Olympics but he died before it happened. A recording was played in stead. She became a friend for the rest of his life and they visited each other often. He warned her not to embrace him because he had AIDS but she didn't care. She was at the unveiling of Freddie's statue in Montreux and cried along with Freddie's mother Jer. She said with training he could have sung anything he wanted.

Freddie said he was honored that a super star like her agree to meet a simple man like him. Freddie loved opera and he was a big fan of her. He said she had the most beautiful voice he had ever heard and she was the only person who made him cry. Freddie's last dream came true, to sing a duet with her. When they realized that the Olympics would be in Barcelona in 1992 they dedicated this song for the Olympics. And Montserrat said to Freddie "We will sing it together in Barcelona" and he said "I won't be able to be there". Then he told her he was dying and probably wouldn't make it that long. They became very close friends. She said in an interview ''I loved Freddie and he loved me. I think those people that were touched by Freddie couldn't help but fall in love with him''. If only Freddie were alive in 1992, the live performance would have been the Greatest Duet Performance the World would have ever seen.

He was so, so scared performing this for the first time with her. He never felt he was really good enough. He sought her out - thought she had the best voice in the world. When he first approached her, she wasn't sure at all, but when she met him and he sang both parts of this to let her hear the song, she was hooked. They had a lovely relationship, they really loved each other (in a completely platonic way of course). But yeah, Freddie was very nervous about performing with someone he considered to be a "proper" singer. It gives me goosebumps every time too, I saw there were nearly tears from you, you were a little overwhelmed. It was lovely to see :) Big love from Scotland. Oh, and it's Mon ser at Cab aye ay :)
@janematthews33943 жыл бұрын
This is all wrong. Freddie didn't approach her, she approached him. She contacted Freddie's management and offered to record a song together. When they met she decided to record the whole album together. And Freddie wasn't afraid to perform this song, because it wasn't live. They didn't have time to rehearse so they performed to a pre-recorded audio.

My first time seeing this version. They were so good together, and the chemistry is evident. This is the first time two major stars did a genre cross over together. Disappointed , he urged Mike Moran to arrange a meet. She agreed , Freddie pitched his vision, with Mike accompanied him on piano , he sang a couple songs from this creationists vision of a sort of rock opera. She was swept by his amazing voice , she asked where she could hear him singing , he sent her some recordings, she asked if he would write a song about her beloved city , who would host the 1992 summer Olympics, then she would give him an answer. Well .... Barcelona was born. Check it out. Particularily...songs How Can I Go On , Guide Me Home, She brings tears to your eyes and tingles your spine. "You always think opera divas are going to be austere and very sort of frightening - but she jokes and swears and, you know, she's a human being. She doesn't take herself too seriously. "Her and me together is so ridiculous when you think about it. But if we have something musically together it doesn't matter what we look like or where we come from."

Freddie was always a lover of Opera and a fan of Montserrat in particular, and it was arranged that they would meet. He recorded a demo tape for her, Exercises in Free Love, which eventually became Ensueno on the album. Freddie was so nervous about meeting her that he smoked 2 packs of cigarettes while he was waiting for her to arrive at the hotel. They hit it off right away, Montsy loved his demo and asked him how many songs would they put on a rock and roll album and he replied 10. “Then we shall do 10 too!” she announced. Because of her schedule he then had two weeks to write 10 songs, which he did with Mike Moran. The entire Barcelona album is a Masterpiece, every song will give you chills. My picks are La Japonaise and How Can I Go On, but it really doesn’t matter which song you choose. I’d love you to listen to Freddie’s demo first though. Exercises in Free Love Will amaze you
