The first rule when pompano fishing is to fish where the pompano are at. If they are not where you are fishing, it's time to move.

When you say the golden hour, does it matter if the tide is completely slack/not moving at that time? I know pompano generally look for moving water but i wonder if they are not as picky during first light.

Hey, I know you just recently did a skyway pier fishing trip with very little luck and I think I know why. I saw some underwater videos of the south pier from last year and compared them to one a few months ago and realized the sand is filling deeper in the troughs between the rocks, which tells me that the trough depth has changed probably from the hurricanes. So the rocks are shorter not giving much room for larger to fish to swim closer to the bottom without being seen from top preying fish. Thus, the reason we're seeing bait fish a lot feeding off the pier. Just a theory.

Hey guys just getting into fishing and have a question; I’m confused about line rating for a rod. If it has a line rating of 17-25lbs can I put 50# of braid on it since the diameter is that of about 15lbs mono? Or do I still need to follow the rod line test rating and use 17-25lbs braid which would be a ton of line on my 4000 reel?

Love when the Pomp bite is hot. I disagree with any breaks during a hot bite until you limit out. Those Ozark Trail reels have been a real blast. I have 3, the drag is sooo smooth, way better than any Penn. I did have 1 drag knob clicker fail, but it still works flawlessly as a clickerless drag knob. I wish they had parts to support them though.
