Such wisdom so young. I say this because it took me until my 60s to embrace true self compassion rather than a ‘socially conditioned’ compassion, putting others first. It has been a life changer after twenty five years of ME. This and the podcast with Nick have been refreshing and uplifting. It is a very difficult message to get across, there is so much resistance to self compassion, and so much subconscious anger driving us and far too much ‘niceness’ all of which keeps us trapped in the fight or flight dynamic and the invisible social imperative to ‘perform’ or ‘produce’. Self compassion can be a constant. I set a half hour meditation gong on my phone for four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening. It’s a reminder to tune in to myself to become aware of how I am, and to breathe for a moment and slow myself down, to give myself a psychological hug. It doesn’t interrupt what I’m doing but keeps me mindful of where I am in time and space and brings me home to myself and my needs. Thank you both, an excellent video. ❤

Self love and self compassion is underestimated in how this affects us in the diseases we get.

Thank you both - this was a timely reminder for me! Years ago I read a book called "the Compassionate Mind" by neuroscientist Dr Paul Gilbert. It was really helpful as he combines modern neuroscience with Buddhist practice and meditation.

If you want to learn how to accomplish any sizable goal, it will break down into hard skills and soft skills, with the soft skills being largely unseen and uncredited despite doing the lion's share of the achievement. Soft skills need to be modeled and taught just as much if not more than the hard skills! We don't know what we don't know with regards to things like self-compassion, valuing our inner evaluations, trusting our intuition, riding out subtle body cycles and timings, etc.

Raelan did you ever read 'From fatigued to fantastic' by Dr Jacob Teitenbaum, and try any of the methods in it? Would you be willing to do an interview with him as he also recovered from CFS, I believe he's retired now and teaches and has a lot of work done in this area. Maybe bringing him on will help some folks?

It’s like everything in life, we are all different - there are commonalities with different people and different traits. I’m not type A but believe empaths and “givers” might suffer as a result of that trait, also those of us with chronic inflammation. Also wonder about others that were born prematurely too, is that a link as well? Thanks for all you do Raelan❤
