It is with enormous thanks to Phil from AuthentiKit for inviting me up to RAF Coningsby to see the incredible work he has been doing with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to create a realistic Spitfire simulator, using the Flying Iron Spitfire L.F MkIXc.
It really is quite incredible to see what you can do with a 3D Printer!

That’s amazing they’re using the Flying Irons Spitfire for their simulator. Has there been collaborations between them and Flying Iron on flight model, engine dynamics and procedures? The Spitfire is my favorite goto for msfs. Love the videos, keep up the good work. 👍🏻

Many thanks! I don’t know the details but I would be amazed if FI haven’t taken on some of the feedback from the BBMF.

That looked like a good day. I have a Ender3 3d printer, it is great for smaller parts like spur gears. Looking at the authentikit Spitfire files I downloaded they will take for ever to print out on the Ender. Anyway, if I ever finish my Harrier simpit a Spitfire is next on the list or maybe a P38 or a 109 or a P51. Yeah, next one needs to be modular as I cant decide and have no room for 5 simpits.

What a day, not jealous at all. I plan on doing their spitfire controls another thing I'd like to see authentikit or community do in the future is a Harrier nozzle control.

The way these controls are put together means so many possibilities! I can see how the Harrier Nozzle control would be very handy!

Not just the nozzle but the throttle too. I'm not so good at 3d modelling so ended up using a 3d printed f16 grip. I am close to my harrier vr simpit being usable.

These controls make flying the Flying Irons Spitfire so intuitively. you think left and off she goes. immersion is so good.

Back in the early nineties, the BBMF Lancaster made an emergency landing at RAF Alconbury with a dead engine. She was there for a few days having a new engine fitted, and I was able to spend about three hours clambering round inside her. All I had to do was empty my pockets of anything that might fall out, and not touch any controls. One of the BBMF guys gave me a guided tour, and then I was free to explore on my own.

What better way to spend the evening after a long week, saving up cash to fly again. Happy for you to get access to the holy grail. Very impressive kit. Lovely history in that hangar. Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to take her up in the virtual sky so we can fly together again.

Rob, excellent real life to sim tie in. Its a great place and everyone involved are very invested in the weight of responsibility that BBMF represents. Coningsby could be a good group flight start point, although most evenings plenty of Typhoons are active there in the sim as in real life. 👍

Many thanks, it really is wonderful there and a great team too. Was a privilege to spend time behind the scenes. I agree regarding the group flight and I hear RAF Cranwell and up for warbirds doing touch and go’s en route 🤣

Brilliant video mate! What a privilege to spend time at the BBMF and experience Authentikit and their superb setup! Very interested in the kit and whether it can be easily attached to my Ali- Strut-Profile desk mountings. Really enjoyed the video and the BBMF & Authentikit feature. Spot on 👍

Incredible mate! Amazing you were able to be so articulate in such company. I think my jaw would have hit the floor & not be able to speak or move or fly for some time. Best wishes @@Dreamsofwings

Yes very hard to get head round the tragedy. Sqn Ldr Long was a big supporter of the sim featured in this video and could see how it was a real benefit to the pilots as a procedures trainer. He also very kindly gave a copy of the BBMF MkIX checklist to the AuthentiKit community.
