The RAF Fire & Rescue team approached us to produce a full length documentary,
their brief was to offer potential recruits an insight into the apprenticeship scheme.
We joined the RAF team onsite over the course of the scheme, following two new recruits - Emma and Joe, through the apprenticeship, observing their personal experience of life with the Fire & Rescue team in Manston, Kent.
Shooting this documentary was a great experience for our team!

The kit is so much better. The techniques have changed. But the job is the same. Seems to me the trade is in good hands. But God, what I wouldn't give to be back on crew with a Mk9! Where did the years go? I have been out 32 years.Yet part of me still thinks it was yesterday.

@@lauriestlyon8773 agree, I was a Rock but saw the light lol ( plus a Class 2 license) Came out and had 20 years full time and retained in a few brigades. The "9" was the best airfield machine I ever worked with, drove "6"'s but the "9" was by far the best. We had biceps then, well DP2 drivers did :)

Hi guys, I'm an applicant in the process of joining the Royal Air Force. I'll be covering the entire application process on my channel. I just posted a video about the Selection Interview on my channel which I think may interest some of you! I'd appreciate it if you had any feedback too. Thank you.

There's no way that you can step out from RAF fire service into any local authority whole time duty system in UK. You will be required to do the basic course again.

Are you expected to cover the local community from your RAF base ? The video was great and was refreshing to see a very committed female involved in a very male dominated profession 👍

Don't know if it's changed from my day but we attended fires "outside the wire" if requested and flying operations permitted. RTA's were not unusual and, naturally, any RAF crash off base.

I presume this is a good route to get into the Regualr fire service once you’re qualified. It’s annoying how difficult it is to join the regular fire service
@benpaynter
@benpaynter 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. You'd still have to go through exactly the same recruitment process to get into wholetime. These days joining a retained station can be a good route in as lots of brigades will allow some transfers between retained and wholetime however there is no such process from RAF

Standards not Conditions Ady, I was Army before seeing the light and crossing over, the standards going through training are just as tough and its a more physical job than most, but the conditions in the RAF and how they treat there service personnel is definitely much better than getting treated like a child in the Army.

It's a. Different standard, being a firefighter is a different skill and discipline set than needed in say the infantry or tank regiment. I was RAF Firefighter in 1980's, enjoyed my time.

You deal with emergencies all the time. There are many life threatening situations NOT involving fires. When does happen everyone concerned is bloody happy that there are trained guys (and gals) ready to put their life on the line to rescue others. During my time I fought more building fires than aircraft and saved lives. The job hasn't really changed but I envy them the Gucci kit! 😁
