Hi Tim, got to say I love both your flight sim and life help content. How about some tales of your time in RAF, just a thought. Cheers, Mark.

The four point roll was fascinating. I hadn't even considered rudder use in keeping orientation. I shall now be more observant watching displays!

Hi Tim. What would have been a good addition is an external view from different angles. Been to enough air shows myself to know about barrel rolls, Cuban-8s etc. but not when I'm in a cockpit (can't do that in a C-172 or PA-28 anyway). Thanks for the content. Ab

Lovely slow roll there, Tim! Interesting to see the difference in pitch-rate in the loop between the light aircraft I’ve learning Aeros in (entry for the loop, 130kts) and the pitch rate at 350kts in the jet. (Difference being the speed plus you won’t run out of energy so quickly of course!)

Nicely flown! And great approach and landing. Surprisingly it took me back to Sunday afternoon aeros in our Chipmunk, the loop in particular (but as you cancelled reheat in the jet once on the backside of the loop, I'd be gently pulling the power right back co-ordinating that with the increasing speed so by the time we reached the down vertical the power would be back to idle. The barrel roll used a much slower roll rate than I'm used to but I guess that reflects the far greater inertia and available power of the jet. In the Chippy the manoeuvre starts with a steepish pull-up and the crucial thing was to ensure the aeroplane arrives at the wings-level inverted at the apex (i.e level in pitch). Arrival at the apex before that or after having rolled beyond wings level resulted in an accelerating spiral dive exit (guess how I know!). Everything in gentle aeros is done in no rush, so it 'flows' just as you did it in the jet (except, in the Chippy, rudder reversal in a stall turn which is 'BAM' followed by some opposite rudder to stop the yaw in exactly the down vertical). Even your crosswind leg (roll wings vertical and pull) I used to do in the Chippy, which used to frighten all the Cessna pilots ;-)

At RIAT last year one of the legacy Hornets did a transonic pass about 400 ft. My mate and me were hoping the pilot would leave it in reheat just a while longer to hit that magical no of M1.0 😊

I was at RIAT back in the day when I was a kid, and one of the German pilots on the Viking team flying Starfighter broke the sound barrier during the display! I was 6 or 7 at the time and still remember everyones hats being blown off lol

@@ianjeff22 I remember at Odiham families day, 1979 an F104 de-rusting the 230 Sqn hangar. Don’t know if it broke the rules but it must have been close.

Can't help thinking: if only the Shoreham Hunter pilot had flown like this, using definite gates, the terrible disaster wouldn't have happened...
@ImpendingJoker

He was using gates just like the Reno Thunderbird pilot was using but they input incorrect information for the maneuvers and as we say in the computer industry, garbage in; garbage out.

Tim, have you flown the T-45 Goshawk mod in DCS and as you are a veritable expert on the RAF Hawk 😉 what are your thoughts on how it flies compared to the real thing? We use it in our DCS squadron as a trainer and I'm interested in whether we are doing the right thing?
@FastJetPerformance
@FastJetPerformance Жыл бұрын
It's great, slightly heavier than the RAF Hawk T1/T2 and I found the HUD hard to read but it's a good trainer so I'd use it.

@@FastJetPerformanceExcellent cheers Tim. One of our guys was saying that the flight model was questionable saying he could pull full back stick forever with flaps down and the turn rate goes up and up right down to 200knots even without flaps. He's not a pilot and never flown a real hawk/goshawk so I was just wondering if you thought it handled like the real thing that's all given your experience.
@FastJetPerformance
@FastJetPerformance Жыл бұрын
@@outonroad the MB339 model does the same, I've complained about it to DCS already - the T45 should end up stalled if you constantly pull on it especially with flaps as it doesn't have excess power to overcome the drag.

@@FastJetPerformance Cheers Tim, I'll pass it on to him. I haven't flown it enough myself and to that extreme of envelope to assess it so thanks for the clarification. 👍

Yeah good luck to getting your hands on something like this in real life mate. I was military and I had a blast being an aviator but sadly, this kind of fun is not in the cards for me. So you can go ahead and stow your bs in the overhead compartment where I pray it drops on your head.
