They call the lakes low flying area LFA17. Can’t believe it took them less than 4 minutes to complete a 1.5hr drive!

Amazing video!!! I've always wanted to see what it's like to fly low level up over Windermere, Dunmail Raise and Thirlmere. Interesting route via St Johns in the Vale then turning over Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite. Brilliant stuff which I'll watch many more times!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Just seen this , would love a trip around this neck of the woods . Apart from the flying skills the views of some of the most beautiful countryside and hills this is amazing . Maybe one day flips around the mach loop and windermere areas for joe public will be available in the back of a Hawk . But excellent to watch .

Hi Todd, you interrupted our school class lessons for a few seconds every day when you transit over around 1000 feet. Love see the Aards.

Did this a few times in Hawks when I was in, over the Lake District and Wales. You can certainly hear the cold air unit, that is right behind the rear seat, on the top of the fuselage, winding up and down.

I wondered what the noise was that fluctuated - thanks for explaining, everyday is a school day. How low, do you reckon they were, over the lakes, relative to the 500' rule (does that apply to military aircraft?)? All looked like a lot of fun✌️👍😊

They fly over great carrs fell where a Halifax bomber crashed in WW2 on a training sortie low cloud caused them to crash , wreckage can be still seen , undercarriage and molten aluminium fused to the rocks , sad sight but still remembered people leave poppies at the site

Fantastic video, thanks for posting. How do 2 aircraft fly at the same speed? Does each aircraft have different power settings depending on weight?
@nvstewart6 жыл бұрын
Throttle modulation. If you drive a vehicle at the same speed as the vehicle in front of you, do you worry about what throttle setting you have, and the weight differential between you and the other vehicle? Same thing.
@ballisticaeros3 жыл бұрын
lead aircraft sets direction, roc, speed etc. 2nd aircraft focuses on a location say left rear 50feet @45degrees and maintains that no matter what.

① I love the username. Does it really represents you or is it one you just came up with? ② The takeoff was quite precise. The second plane pulled up left of you, you both started rolling at the same time, and you both lifted off at the same time.

Hawk is single engined isn't it? Don't you worry about engine failure when at 200ft and going like hell?! What fun, though.
@noisytwit4 жыл бұрын
The Hawk is single engine yes, but very reliable! There are procedures should the worst happen though.

Immediately pull the nose up gaining altitude and glide to nearest available runway I believe
@dorsetdumpling53873 жыл бұрын
Trade speed for altitude then consider your options! If all else fails, pray to your Lord(s) but put your faith in Martin Baker.
@torch89223 жыл бұрын
@@dorsetdumpling5387: jets don’t glide very well. No gliding to the nearest runway - you’d only option would be a dead stick landing which requires a lot of height to set up. To carry out a dead stick landing, there are 2 keys (position and height above the runway) - high key and low key. If you miss either of those keys, a Martin-Baker letdown is in the cards.
@stephenauty2402 Жыл бұрын
No where to land in the Lakes apart from a lake. Pilot would pull up to gain height , look for the best place to ditch the plane without killing anyone on the ground and then eject after the co-pilot

I can't think what the Red Arrows are going to replace this with as it's just a perfect all round aircraft for them, both technically and aesthetically. Today's jets are so ugly with no character, just flying computers. Gone are the Phantom, Buccaneer, Jaguar and the Hawk won't be far behind and now we have the soulless Typhoon and F-35's
@bonbondonk8389 Жыл бұрын
How the lovley after burner of the typhoon and the vtol f35 yes the older one's are nice but these are not soulless all with their character did the phantom or jaguar do vtol? no only the harrier which is not in service but the f35 is still just stating my opinion by the way

The Sqn was formed in 1917, and used that emblem from its formation. A long time before that specific German unit started or was even thought about.
