Sent to subscribers to www.fastjetperformance.com NOT a student video - flying with a helicopter test pilot who is in the front-seat so the narrative is different from student instruction. This is an RAF Valley Hawk T2.

Blimey, I was tasked saturated just watching that from the comfort of my home. What a fascinating insight to how you guys train pilots. So calm and cool. Brilliant and so much respect.

Your videos are absolutely superb! I watch the South African air force hawks fly at airshows and I love them. Your videos have added an entirely new appreciation for the aircraft and the pilots for me!

Superb videos and commentary. An extremely rare insight into FJ training and QFI life. Very gracious of you indeed to take the time to post.

Fantastic video. The integration of simulated Sam threats must add a whole new dimension and realism to the training not possible with the T1.

This was just brilliant, Tim! To say your friend, Chris, flies helicopters he did fantastically well!

Plane Old Ben I could be wrong but my understanding is that test pilots train on pretty much everything at ETPS. Fast jest rotary multi the lot. So he will have had some FJ experience but that’s by no means meant to take anything away from him. The fact he’s a test pilot proves he’s an awesome aviator 👍🏽💪🏽

You chaps have my utmost respect for what you do/have done. Have loved everything to do with aviation for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately and annoyingly I was never great at maths and always struggled which pretty much meant that I was out of the running to becoming a pilot or observer in the RAF or RN.

Try joining a gliding club. It's what I did a year ago and now I'm fulfilling my lifelong dream of being a pilot!

lol "Now! What we're going to do is..." --> audible intake of breath from the pilot. Fantastic footage, instructor Tim! Just wanted to say that even though I'm sure most of this doesn't have any general instructional value to us, or earns you heaps of money, or even enough to justify the editing - that these are my favorite videos on yootub of all time. That there's not already an established channel on the BBC running an "RAF jet stream highlights" already is a mystery to me.

Tim, Thanks for posting these videos, they are very informative.

I love your videos, thank you again for posting them. I bet the man up front had a real rush in the Hawk fast and low compared to helicopters.
@bowser5159 жыл бұрын
***** I'm sure they do, but it still isn't quite the same as flying a fast jet. Hence the USMC suffered unbelievable losses when they used helicopter pilots in their Harriers.
@bowser5159 жыл бұрын
***** I'm not saying heli guys can't be trained up to fly fast jets, far from it. In fact I'd say they are way more qualified than joe public, any of whom can apply. Just that flying a Heli low (while exhilaration I am sure) probably doesn't compare to flying a fast jet low. I have done neither unfortunately so I could be very wrong of course.

I am really enjoying all your videos. Thank you. It's amazing all this can be shared with such candour. The HUD is very intuitive. Lots to take in in a short time frame but I guess you employ a system to scan all the data. Bit concerned when I saw you zoom past Keswick where I have paraglided on many occasions. I once had a SAAF Saab (?) jet go underneath me in RSA. Was a bit exciting.

Could you walk us around your jet on the ground and show some of the things you talk about in the cockpit? I have grandchildren who could benefit from a little aeronautic theory..! :) Great Stuff!

John Banks will try, there are regulations that detail what exactly we can show but I'll see if I can get the authority for you

Why is it called late arm Tim where as across the pond its master arm ?
@FastJetPerformance2 жыл бұрын
We do have a Master and a LATE ARM on 80/90s jets - LATE actually stands for something but I seriously can't remember. The Master is made pre-take-off in case we need to jettison tanks and the LATE Arm is for Weapons events.

PandaPapa146 The key bits: column to the right is altitude (the number at the top is the current altitude), the column to the left is airspeed (numbers at the top are knots and mach - mach varies, primarily with altitude, and is critical for performance limits), bars across show pitch (with each at 5 degree intervals) but stay with the horizon so also indicate roll, the little circle with horizontal bar in the middle represents the aircraft and shows where its pointing, and the diamond next to it shows where its going (offset due to wind and aerodynamics). The rest is variable depending on whats set to display and whats happening (and by the looks of it, even has training modules built in like “SAM KILL” - you’ll never see that in operations :)).

Are the target/waypoint on the ground and predicted impact points shown in the HUD? Not sure I could see them...
@FastJetPerformance6 жыл бұрын
Waypoint is at the top (inverted V) and listen in the bottom right and the diamond in the middle that floats about the place is the velocity vector - that's the impact point, wind corrected etc.

What is the dead wing?
@FastJetPerformance3 жыл бұрын
The wing that was uppermost during the turn and that stopped you seeing behind it - check that area when you roll out.
