In this match, it was not all about Nadal losing his focus after the third set tie-break. It's also that Tsitsipas could take advantage of it, by being consistent and hitting big strokes. A player of Nadal's class dropping in quality during the encounter doesn't automatically mean losing the match. The opponent has to play at a very high level, too, which Tsitsipas did today.
@tomswiss71283 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I didn't have the chance to watch the entire match. I agree with what you said. But I was wondering (if you watched the match), in what aspect was nadal "lacking" from the third set? Like, movement? unforced errors? weak strokes?
@notquitemytempo13533 жыл бұрын
@@tomswiss7128 Certainly a significant amount of unforced errors. He also for the most part made it too easy for Stef when Stef was serving. I mean he even won a game with 4 aces in a row. And at the same time he had trouble closing his own games, with Stef reaching 40 often and even getting some break points. To be fair, Tsitsi massively improved his game at that point, so it's a little bit of both. Like the other person said, it's not enough for Rafa to drop his quality, the other guy must play at his best to beat him.

I was very impressed with Tsitsipas performance. Everything was ok for Nadal until the third set. I believe one of the reasons for this defeat was his service. The second, in my view, was the belief. Losses like today, from Fognini 2015, Poulie 2016, Verdasco 2016, even from Medvedev last year at the atp finals when Rafa was serving for the match didn't happen till 2013, but you can't win them all. @@badis1173 In smaller tournaments he struggles against Medvedev, but in slams Medvedev can't keep up with Djokovic. Same thing as between Murray and Federer back in a day. Today Daniil got squashed.

@@trumpameri1638 I doubt that cause Roger has more championships there. AO is Novak`s quivelant of Rafa`s RG and still not quite.

Great strategy from tsitsipas, a lot of pressoure at the backhand of Nadal and a lot o of power in his match.

Tsitsipas looks very "Federeresque" in some of his shots especially the backhand. 😎 (He did say he's been idolising him since the age of six and watching him on TV). Looks like it's paying off. 😉

Amaizing effort from Stef both gamewise and physically. Does anybody else think this match has a different outcome with a packed crowd though?
@jennyspiriadis35073 жыл бұрын
A packed crowd would've meant that stefano would not have lost the first two sets so easily, perhaps not even lost them at all. It would've have been packed with Greek fans.

@@jennyspiriadis3507 Interesting. I actually think that nerves would have played a bigger role with the crowd. And that stef could have gotten emotionally exhausted. He did super well to stay calm and safe his energy. Rafa on the other hand draws on the crowd in tight matches and gains strength and believe. I personally see rafa ahead with a rowdy crowd
