Rafting the Mississippi in a Homemade Boat | Tequila Shark
On June 1st, 2021, my friends and I started building a boat from scratch. A week later we began our journey on the Red River near Shreveport. Our plan was to take it to the Mississippi River, then all the way to New Orleans, a 361 mile route roughly the length of the state of Louisiana. Over the course of the trip, we made a lot of friends and countless people pitched in to help us finish our journey through Louisiana. Our DIY adventure was full of obstacles and rough camping nights, but our river journey ended up teaching us a lot.
Music:
Heavenly Houseboat Blues - By George (Written by Townes Van Zandt)
Sunflower River Blues - John Fahey
Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground - Blind Willie Johnson
Do It Again - Steely Dan
Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright - By George (Written by Bob Dylan)
Tequila Shark FINAL FINAL KZbin

Wow wow wow, I was so entertained watching you’ll I almost burned down my house . I was cooking and went outside to smoke one and couldn’t stop watching. It was a mess but like y’all said , it was worth it and then some. Do it again please….

The first time I tried to travel the Mississippi, I tied some lumber to large inner tubes; and the police seized it as soon as I launched it~ The second time, I bought a 17' aluminum canoe in St. Paul for $300 and spent a couple years traveling over 5,000 miles in it. Now I'm planning another trip~

Me and four friends did this in 1972, with a raft that looked about the same as yours. Only we went down the Yalabousha River from Grenada, Mississippi to Greenwood, Mississippi (ours was only a five day trip). We were only fourteen years old at the time, and cell phones didn't even exist. We planned to do it again the next summer from Greenwood, Mississippi to Vicksburg, and down the Mississippi River a ways. But, we all got our driver's licenses and discovered girls and never did it. Cool seeing your video a year later. More kids should do stuff like this!

So did you get hull numbers and registration? Did you do any calculations on buoyancy by displacement and weight of materials before you set it in the water?
