This is from the first concert I gave with Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari accompanying on tabla, in February of 1993. The raga was taught to me as Shuddh Vasant by my guru, Pandit Ravi Shankar. However, he also explained that while the early recording of Shuddh Vasant by Birendra Roy Kishore Chowdhury used both shuddh and tivra Ma, he had dropped the tivra Ma from the raga, citing evidence from South Indian music as the basis of his decision. He said to avoid controversy, he refers sometimes to this version as Adi Vasant. I have posted another recording done in a studio of the same gat under the name Shuddh Vasant, but this recording comes a few months earlier from the concert hall. I used the same pharmaisi chakradar tihai to end the gat both times.
