Ranjani and Gayatri present a virutham in three languages- Tamil, Brijbhasha and Kannada. Straddling different eras, languages and backgrounds, the verses of Kulasekara Alwar flow into Ras Khan and then into a Kannada Ugabhoga which echo the same eternal truth.

I love the way both Ra and Ga enjoy each other's singing. The way they listen intently, immerse themselves in the melody, and offer sincere appreciation when the other sings - they are enjoying their renditions as much as the listeners. A lovely bouquet of ragas/verses strung together into a fragrant garland. Subhapantuvarali/Hamirkalyani were evinced mellifluously.

During the Lec-dem at the Music Academy, in December 2019, about Leveraging the Thukkada, there was a discussion about transcending boundaries while presenting Viruthams. In the course of that discussion, there was a mention about how various poets/composers were echoing the same thoughts in their work/verses and how all these could be woven into one whole solid piece... The example of Kulashekara Azhwar yearning to be born as a fish in the temple tank of Thirumala, in his pasuram (Aanadha Selvathai... Meenai Pirakkum Vidhi Udayenavene) and the verse of Ras Khan (the exact one presented here), where he yearns to, if born again, be a cow in Krishna's herd - this was recited in words and the whole hall went 'Aaha". And today when we get to listen to you sing it, the amount of Aahas are innumerable. The fact that the Pasurams, the verses and the Ugabhoga, all written by greats, not connected by time or place, convey the exact same sentiment, is enough to give goosebumps. Here, above that, we have such a mellifluous rendition, presenting a weave of all these verses followed by Narayana Ninna Namada Smaraneya. Priceless! Thank you so much.

What a prayerful and divine virutham/ughaboga!! Bhakti when infused with music in a right way, may bring a lot of goodness and positivity. The wonderful comparison of, how the different great composers of Bharath have worshipped Lord Vishnu, was brought out with full glory. Feeling blessed to listen this lovely tamil virutham, verse from hindi poetry and soulful ughaboga combining together, to form a perfect curtain raiser for Purandara Dasa's evergreen 'Narayana Ninna Namada Smaraneya'. What an intelligent and novel idea. Thanks for letting us all inside your practice room, and enjoy this most blissful music. May your musical prayers help us all cross this dreadful situation soon.

What a treat! Ranjani's Hamirkalyani was awesome! The way Gayathri's voice perfectly executes whatever comes to her mind never ceases to amaze me, no matter how many times I witness it :) Your voices and their combination is an exceptional piece of art by God. I got to listen to it twice live and it was equally enchanting both times.

Wonderful comment. There are those who sit pass adverse comments at slight slips particularly the language fanatics. Till now this music was preserved by Chennaites against all odds. Now that many from other regions have taken to Classical music, I would love to see these fanatics behave when others are singing are singing the alien languages.

Narayana Nina namada smaraniya....what an extraordinary rendition of this beautiful krithi... I absolutely loved the way the ragas flowed along so smoothly and landed with a fine finish of Shudha Dhanyasi... The choice of viruttams are also highly appreciable because of the meaning and versatility of the languages, and your amazing rendition off course; needless to say; especially when you touched the higher sa and sang ‘Krishna Krishna Endu’, I was washed over with emotion and Bhakti...Please keep posting your sessions often so that we rasikas can enjoy your music atleast through KZbin if not live concerts... kudos to both of you ❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a divine and beautiful viruttham in Shubapantuvarali by Gayatri Akka,Bahudari by Ranjani Akka, Viruttham in Bindumalini Ragam by Gayatri Akka(Got some memories of Mahavidwan mandolin srinivas sir in a concert at 1983 when he was a 18 year old and was playing enta muddo of Thyagaraja Swamigal in this ragam effortlessly), then a divine viruttham in the mesmerizing Hamirkalyani Ragam by Ranjani Akka, Ugabhoga in Suddha Dhanyasi ragam by Gayatri akka followed by Narayana Ninna in Suddha Dhanyasi ragam by Purandaradasar. I remember Gayatri Akka saying in a lecture demonstration "leveraging the thukkadas" telling how the viruttham should connect to the kirthanam sung. The same happened in this video. The needed source for relaxing the mind and music needed during the quarantine. Thanks akka for giving us such nectars to drink( We people listening are the honeybees around this nectar of music waiting to taste and drink it). An ardent rasika akkas. Love you.

Words are insufficient to describe this 16 mins of bliss. I cannot miss shedding a tear . such heart moving rendition is possible by you in the most aesthetic manner. When Ranjani mam sings tiruvenkatamalai mele , I really feel being atop the seshachala hill. When gayatri mam starts the hindi lines , I feel krishna is dancing to these tunes.
