Mayamaalava gowla raga so beautiful, ❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a soulful, melodious Mayamalavagowla alapana this is! So rich in raga bhaava, and also exuding Sowhkya Bhaava that is inherent in this raga. Played at slow tempo (the correct kaalapramana, I should say; too many musicians sing this raga in too much of a hurry), using lavish gamakas, to bring out the sowkhya bhaava. Our Sangeetha Pitamaha Shree Purandara Dasa called Mayamalavagowla the King of all ragas, and chose this raga as the first raga to teach all beginners of Carnatic music. By far, Mayamalavagowla is my overwhelming favorite of all ragas; my Sangeetha Aacharya Shree T N Bala(Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri Madurai Mani Iyyer's shishya) also loved this raga, especially Sri thyagaraja kriti Merusamana, and spent a great deal of time teaching me this kriti. In fact, this was the first kriti he taught me when my private lessons started at his home nearly forty years ago, in Havertown, Pennsylvania. And he took up this kriti again and again, at my other classes, until I could sing nereval and kalpana swaras to his satisfaction. So to this day, this kriti is one of my top ten favorite kritis in Carnatic music. Many top musicians such as Sri T M Krishna and Sangeethakalanidhi Sri Sanjay Subramanyan, Sri KVN, Sri TNS, have started their concerts with this kriti: To prepare the minds of rasikas, to calm their minds, to listen to great music to follow. I attended this concert yesterday, I am happy to say, at the Mrs Sivagami Pethachi Hall in Mylapore. It was a wonderful concert. Yesh Prabhu, Mylapore, Chennai

@@MiLaDoB Hi Mi La Do. The name of the instrument is Nadaswara or Nagaswara. It is a very ancient wind instrument played at holy temples and Hindu festivals, and often at weddings and birthday celebrations.
