I don't know about you this evening but every time I turn on the news lately it seems that Congress is passing another $100 billion arms package, building more weapons, sending them to Europe, sending them to Saudi Arabia, sending them to Israel, sending them all over the world to cause nothing but death and destruction for no just cause. Especially at a time when all the people here in the US are starting to hurt worse and worse.
And they find every bit of money to pay for some new weapon but can't pass a bill to support a shortage of baby formula for children who need it. This ain't just about administrations. It's about the way capitalism functions for just the ruling class and abandons everyone else. And it's kind of ugly nationalism in wait.
Tomorrow, at Upper Senate Park, there is a group gathering of Veterans For Peace. That's people who fought in wars, they realized they were unjust, they came home to atone, and stand with everybody who suffered under the military power of the United States.
We're asking that all of you join them there.
They need your support.
They need your help.
And they need you to take the bullet from your head.

I’m retired Navy (25 years) and served on an air craft carrier during the last two wars. I do not like what the post-911 period has done to this country. While I am proud of my service and my brothers and sisters in arms, I cannot say that these wars and they they were fought were justified or bettered the interests of the nation. We must learn lessons from these wars. That requires critical thinking and reviewing the alternatives. We spent trillions and we got very little in return and financial and moral debts of many kinds. I believe a draft with no exemptions should be initiated at any time 1000 troops are deployed to a non-allied country. I believe this create greater responsibility and accountability through an engaged electorate. If you wouldn’t risk your own flesh and blood, maybe nobody should. These trillions would have been better spent everywhere else: healthcare, education, infrastructure, funding the State Department.

"Joe the Plumber" (i.e. Working Class) is no better off today, than he was on Sept. 10, 2001. I would/could argue that we're worse off now. It all seems so surreal. The endless wars. The Financial Collapse of 2008. And now the Post-Pandemic Record Inflation and Failing Banks. We sure could use all that money today. I don’t agree with all of Rage’s politics. I’m center-right myself. But what Zach is talking about here, the military industrial complex and the hypocrisy of American foreign policy, I agree with wholeheartedly. I say this as someone who served as an infantryman in Afghanistan during my time in the US Army. I witnessed firsthand the failure of our policies to enact any lasting change, or any positive outcome during that pointless twenty year war. Many Americans, and allies who committed to Afghanistan, died for nothing. Many more Afghans died for nothing. The only people who gained from this war, were the military industrial complex, and the pharmaceutical industrial complex. This is just one grunt’s thoughts after spending some seasons in the abyss. Your mileage may vary.
