Arguably the most provocative band of the last 20 years, Rage Against The Machine have since their explosive debut, been the group most associated with the American protest movement. Picking up the flame from a linear musical tradition going back to the War Of Independence, with the best known protagonists coming up during the 1950s and 60s civil rights movement via artists such as Pete Segar and the young Bob Dylan, the anger remained as brutal as ever during the final decade of the 20th Century in Rage and contemporaries like Public Enemy. This film dissects the work and career of RATM and looks at their place in this always fascinating lineage of artists and performers who have spoken out on behalf of, and drawn attention to, the world's marginalised, downtrodden and oppressed.
FEATURING
Brand new interviews with; renowned Rage producer and engineer, Garth Richardson; RATM Biographer, Colin Devenish; the band's live sound engineer, Dave 'Rat' Levine and the man who signed them Michael Goldstone.
With further contributions from folk-protest singer and author Jerry Silverman, ex-'Rolling Stone' editor Joe Levy, and Professor of American Studies and English at Washington State University, T.V. Reed.
Rare footage of RATM and many other protest artists, news clips, location shoots, videos, seldom seen photographs, and much more besides.
Digital Contributor Biographies and Beyond DVD section for the true collector.

Funny how wanting equal rights for everybody and the end of oppression keeps getting called "radical left views" in this documentary.

+Samuel Feynman Tribute page It's the US where owning people was seen as a right until 150 years ago and the civil rights act is 50 years old. Killing in the name is more relevant now than in 1992. It's kosher.

"...radicals...radicals....radicals..."..Amazing how many times the word comes up......It is sad and disturbing that individuals and entities who uphold the humanitarian principles advocated by RATM are normatively viewed as "radicals". The basic capacity of feeling the pain of the other, even if this is not your own pain, your concern directly, this is called solidarity.

Its just a generic song created for this film, probably played by session musicians. None of the music on this doc is played by or written by RATM. This is a common theme among these types of films, unofficial documentaries. They dont want to have to pay copyright dues, or get sued, so they make music that sounds similar to the band that they're showcasing.

I'm all about free speech, freedom to live, worship, and experience our own chosen paths in life. With that said, I also agree with getting the stick when I choose to do something that's prohibited, or morally wrong ,or evil. So if I choose to use drugs, use them or ingest them in public places, and buck the flow of law, use violence, or vandalize when I am protesting anything. So expressing myself and coming together in numbers to bring an important situation and or situations to the politicians who have been voted into office and chose to be the one who represents me and my fellow citizens, I will (so should everyone) do so in a lawful manner, and peacefully bring awareness. I'm not niave and I know it would be that way in a perfect world, because we don't live in a perfect world I know most politicians use there platform for selfish reasons, and are some of the most evil people who live in our country. Still using violence and vandilizim instead of peaceful and correct lanes of change is wrong and ultimately brings the situation steps backwards and further from any positive change and further from the minds of the people who are the representatives of us, and gives the numbers a negative representation, and everytime we come together to protest a negative expectation will be set up for and force will be prepared. It becomes a tender box soaked in gasoline. I also understand that there's rotten Apple's, and if it gets seen first it makes the whole basket full seem bad and ruined, so maybe the protests are directed at the wrong set of people, maybe if the public mass who joins these rally's should learn how to make the change themselves by voting in the right person to office to represent them. Violence is never the answer, and quietly rolling over and turning a blind eye to those who take advantage, oppress, and shun the public is not going to make the country we live in better either. There's a way, and it begins with the voting process and participation from the public mass. Unfortunately our youths have been feed information in schooling Parents and the TV God and the voting process and it's importance was not involved. I can include my own aged generation, I am almost 38 years old and I am sad to say that I have only voted 1 time in my life. I was given the thought that my one little vote won't make a difference in the outcome, and that the " elite alluminati" have already chosen the winner. This is a false thought and I was wrong. My little vote, along with yours, and all the others who do not vote become a major number that will make all the difference in the outcome. God bless the USA, and most of all please let RAGE get back together and hit the studio, and tour. Amen

Dan D. Dirges the music is good....and that’s the point, bring them in with the music, and then get them to gear the message. Sure, when I was in highschool, most of this was over my head. “Fuck the man!” Sure. At that time I had only been exposed to the history textbooks our government approves of. Eventually, I learned about the insane struggle that the people who built this country had to deal with. All we ever learned was that Lincoln freed the slaves, which was bullshit of course. Basically, the elites exchanged indentured servant slavery for wage slaves and child labor. These people lived through unimaginable poverty, having no rights in the workplace. On average 20,000 people died every year building railways alone. Textile factory workers died twenty years early on average from chemical exposure. Meanwhile, Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Morgan were worth more than $1 trillion combined. Strikes were broken up with violence by private contractor armies. The State police were created for the sole purpose of managing protests, which also alleviated the costs of hiring private armies by the corporations. These people and their families lived in towns named after the corporation, bought everything at company stores, lived in company built homes, and their kids went to company schools. So these people were payed, but it all went back to the company....slavery, its the very definition of it. Kind of like how Walmart moves into small towns, causing the bankruptcy of every surrounding business. Then employees have no choice but to work at Walmart, who does not pay a living wage. They have to get food stamps, which walmart gladly accepts. So in the end we are all paying for Walmart to put people out of business, and feed their employees and their families. Never mind that the four children of Sam Walton are worth more money than the entire bottom 40% of the US population. That’s over 125 million people! There is some very ugly history to capitalism. The plutocrats of this nation sell the horrors of socialism, while ignoring that half of europe is democratic socialist, and outranks us in almost every category. Currently there is literally 0% correlation between voter desires/needs and legislation. I’m not kidding, there is literally zero connection. Unless one is a corporation, then things get done in Washington. Is that the kind of free representative democracy we are supposed to have? We have separation of church and state for good reason. Its too bad we don’t have a separation of finance and state. Half of the cabinet of every president is from Goldman Sachs. Including Trump who promised to drain the swamp. Oh well, Obama also promised hope/change, and all he did was continue the wars, and shit on the constitution. Same old shit.
