Still playing this in 2020... Setup: Modified 9000 series PS1, along with the American NTSC game version (red disc) and the NeGcon (NPC-101) controller (full twist option and the 'H' setting) - full grip driving, automatic, half BGM, and first person view. I first got the gold screen last year, and I tried for days to get class six boxed off. I worked really hard for it. What a feeling to have finally done it, and to see a gold title screen. It may seem like a small reward, but it's a reminder that brings a smile every time you load up the memory card. Some of you may have noticed that the trophy screen goes into double digits for each class... Well, I'm aiming to see what will happen when they each get to 99 - 100. Who knows what will happen? :D

There was this kid who lived next door to my mom's place who would always invite himself over to play Rage Racer on our PS1 system. Jeez... it's a fun racer though, and I love that selection music.

Graphics-wise, I prefer R4. R4 and Tekken probably are the best-looking PS1 games I think. The soundtrack of R4 is great as well with the acid-jazz and techno vibe going for it. But in terms of progression, R4 requires you to place differently in races to unlock cars that essentially repeat themselves within the same line-up and you multiply it by 4 because there are 4 teams that represent a certain difficulty setting. The harder the difficulty, the faster the cars. So when you have to race the same races over and over again and purposely place 3rd, or 2nd, or what have you, to pick up a new car, it becomes quite tedious, so Rage Racer has a better progression system in that regard.

man do you play on emulator ? I ve no fucking music during races on both ps1 emulators epsxe and psx.. if you could answer if you have any idea it would be great !

This video is of the real hardware and actual game. However if you're looking for an emulator that will run this game accurately you need to use Mednafen or the Beetle PSX core in Retroarch. I recommend Retroarch because Mednafen has no user interface and is all command line. Beetle PSX is incredibly accurate but does have a much higher CPU requirement than epsxe and PSX and does not offer boosting the resolution through the GPU. You can still boost the resolution but it uses the CPU and you're lucky if you can do 2X resolution and not drop frames. However that will all be changing with a new core coming out soon. I use Beetle PSX on my phone at the native resolution and it's wonderful. I have a Galaxy S9+ though. Weaker devices have to use PCSX Rearmed (like the Playstation Classic) and that will not run this game correctly.

@@OldsXCool Thank you for this complete answer ! I managed to run the game correctly on the latest version of epsxe which is 2.0.5 but I'll definitely look at the ones you said as I didn't know them :) Thx man EDIT: worked only on one of my computer.... now forced to check yours lol
