I never hated “Rap Devil” the way others have but even I’ll admit it had stupid moments like the “weird beard” line and Marshall definitely Ethered MGK and gave him his biggest “L” that didn’t have to do with his infamous Breakfast Club interview (if you know you know). Edit: I’ve heard what the “weird beard” line is supposed to refer to, but in and/or out of context, it still borders on corny and lame, which is funny for someone who’s trying to call someone else corny like in the chorus of his diss track.

I was more annoyed at MGK after the diss. His interview on the breakfast club was so embarrassing. He came off so delusional and arrogant. Chatting shit about how many records he’s sold, and acting like he was this highly respected rapper when he was only moderately successful. It really put me off him. Also acting like he had a diss ready that would outdo killshot - like we all know MGK was never topping it. However, I love the direction he’s gone in, and respect him for keeping his career alive. His album “tickets to my downfall” is genuinely really good. Like it doesn’t even feel like he’s jumping on the pop/punk trend for the sake of it, he has a real talent for it, and arguably has found more success there than as a rapper. I don’t fully believe in the “he got dissed so bad he switched genres” - it’s clear he was experimenting before the Eminem diss. But, the image he puts forward now is a clear shift. The dress style, the painted nails, and how he markets himself - it’s clear he’s made an effort to move away from the rap image. I like him way more as a punk/pop artist than I ever did as a rapper.

One of the only parts from Rap Devil that Eminem might have actually took to heart were the shots about him 'yelling at the mic'. Since the release of Rap Devil, Eminem's voice has gotten noticeably softer and he raps in a higher register than his deep, growly tone prevalent throughout Revival and Kamikaze.

Lol Em has stated multiple times that he won't conform to new gen sound. He thinks its stupid and doesn't understand how silly sounds trump and create more hype then real lyricism. Hopsins quickest growing and most viral song was him making fun of mumble rappers and promptly quit rapping because it's pointless to do anything unless he really wants to do it himself. Views are empty after you have a certain amount of cash. It's easy to pander to trends and childrens addictive tendencies to profit in the short term but that doesn't make anyone happy and when the switch up happens; people get mad.
