Also important to mention is that Mega Boomerang and Pilfer are also fantastic for applying statuses ; they hit multiple times and are dependent on your palico's weapon for damage type and secondary effect, which also synergises well with the Status Attack Up and Knockout King skills.

The felyne silkbind is way more useful. It staggers the monster 100% and is like a binder. The Monster is trapped in a certain radius around the Palico. Hilarious when Tigrex wants to charge at you and your cat just reels him backwards

The passive skills do make decent impact on your Palicos and Palamutes performance. For example, if Knockout King is equipped with a blunt weapon they'll tend to prioritize hitting the head of the monster. Mega Boomerang and Range Attack Up stack nicely with each other and hit multiple times for some part breaks and flinching utility.

Great video! Fighter class palico is actually pretty good as well. It gives you +30 affinity buff for 2.5 min and cast it very often. Not sure about lvl 20 skill but I believe it makes the palico attack more aggressively which is usefull to proc the status from the weapon.

Now that we have a bit more elder dragons, I think it's fair to say that you may opt to go for the level 15 skill as flash bombay instead of shock purrison when fighting those.

It's worth mentioning how insanely effective a healcat with bubbles and the medic skill equippied can actually be at healing the group, and it is dramatically amplified when making use of felvine, which you should always be doing anyway. Anyone worried about carting or carrying some noob friends or even just worried about the scrrubby randos in your lobby can benefit drastically from these. Flash bombay is far more constistent than the traps for the record, those cats rarely if ever miss, and get off 2-3 flashes a hunt. while flashes don't immobilize a monster they make it so the mon literally can't target anything, and aims their attacks at thin air. not to mention the flash effect last longer than traps and works on every single monster in the game, where some are immune to traps. not to mention when the cat puts a shock trap down you have to go through the trouble of luring the monster into the trap in the first place, and I have gone multiple hunts where they don''t use a single shock trap despite using felvine multiple times. flash bombay beats the other options by a wide margin. also between power drum and rousing roar fighter cats can give 45% affinity. so yeah, they are a far cry from being one of the worst.

Don't underestimate the rousing roar buff tho... it gives a ton of affinity. Use that with another palico that has the drum buff and you are golden.

I think a fair bit of folk try to optimize affinity in their armor set up, so that you are near as can be to 100% when attacking weak points, so more affinity is often wasted... but if your set isn't there then the affinity buff is obviously useful.

Gonna stick with my Assist and Bombardier combo, basically every time my cats do anything the monster is left stuck or staggered and my dps goes all that much higher. Also, non-gathering palicos still get materials off monsters, I'm not sure if they can get the rare drops, but carapace and scales are definitely still something they can grab. Also, also, Felyne Silkbind does not make you mount the monster, it anchors it in place and is very underrated against flyers like Rathalos.

I would like to point out that the Felyne Silkbind Palico skill doesn't make them ridable more often, it limits the wyverns range of movement. Nothing funnier than watching a Rathalos attempt to bull rush you only to not move beyond the first step. Super useful when playing a ranged weapon, pining down evasive monsters like volvidon

After all, that's why male and female hunters are the same height, so that the weapons scale perfectly regardless. Felynes are just so much smaller you'd have to do it all for them, hence the need for a whole expansion needed and not just an update.

6:43 no thats not how it works, it actually keeps the monster in place with very resisted movement, it doesn't do anything for wyvern riding it says nothing about wyvern riding in the description, its 10x more useful than pitfall since the palico fires it out of a mini batista with the only down side being he can miss but 90 percent of the time it hits and when it does it causes a flinch no matter what even if the monster is doing an attack or about to roar, I dont know how you came to the conclusion you did but hopefully this helps clear some things up on the fenlyne silkbind move and its utility, I always bring an assist palico and another palico as if I need to I can just walk out of the monsters range to sharpen or heal, plus it stops flying monsters from flying

the vid doesn’t lie- they are useful. play around with the skill tho. 2 cats with different skills can lead to some fun outcomes. the bomb cat skills are particularly funny. they even have one that is basically the gunlance’s wyrmstake blast from iceborne, the dmg can add up with this one if they get it in a place where you can attack it easily. also they have a giant slow motion rocket 🚀.

Use a Flashpod or Flash Bombay palico, then you'll be free to sharpen while they're flailing around But you should still be careful about any ranged attacks, especially from Rakna if she tries to do that 360 flame breath attack

I started off with a Healer & she served me very well. Soloing with me & my doggo up to HR6. Then it hit me just how much easier it was to scout the perfect cat in Rise in comparison to older games. Not just the skills but the look FINALLY. So now I have little Do'mata. A Gathering cat with Healing Bubble, Power Drum & Shock Purr-ison. She also has Attack & Health up L, & Element & Ranged Attack up. Looks like I made the right choice. She's pretty much purrfection in my eyes. Didja not actually use the Felyne silkbind Joshy boi? Cuz thats not what it does, it locks the monster down with iron silk keeping them tethered to a center point which keeps them in a general area and will in a lot of cases stop a lot of the monsters attacks from hitting you when they otherwise would. Ive also found if you get a monster with it while they're trying to flee especially when near death, they will essentially just flop around stuck there until you kill them. Actually pretty damn useful.

I finally got my perfect Palico. I got Gathering with Shock-purison, Healing bubble and Powerdrum. Perfect for my SnS which doesn't need the stamina from Go-fight-win. I also got Status attack up, KO king, and negate posion. YEA BOI!!! QUICK TIP: If you're not getting the RNG for the perfect Palico. You can do the Rajang challenge quest and cart. Pick the HBG and avoid the Prism Spiribird then try and hit a personal best of 16 seconds. You only need to cart once for the rotation of Palico to change. Also, once you fail the quest use the move around village option in the menu to get to the Palico trainer as there are no load screens and is much faster then running there on foot. Hope this helps for those on Nintendo. If you're on PC download the Palico editor on Nexus mods.

the way the hiring system works, you can essentially copy the look of your current palico, even have the same name, but just use different skills. just use the scout function.

Im like you and i always have backstories for my dudes. Like my Palamut only have one eye because a long time ago i was in a fight with aTigrex and was really in trouble,i was on the ground and ready to die but then i wild Palamute jumps in saves me but gets hit by the Tigrex and looses hes eye. I killed the Tigrex afterwards and take the Palamute with me and heal them and we become best friends XD So i know your bound ;) So i made it so that my starter cat Littlefoot is getting old so he cant really hunt longer and he knows this but lucky he got a son Littlefoot Jr and he would be proud to to step in his fathers shoes. So this is how i get a perfect Palico without loosing my bound. By the way Littlefood is now the leader of the meowcenaries.

I have two gathering palico with both with status up, and both had sleep inducing weapons, and they're regularly put monsters to sleep twice most hunts to my shock. Either allowing to get off a double damage bomb empowered power sheathed rage slash on GS, or an LBG rain of explosions with all the wyvernblast bomb combo. Was always extremely useful and satisfying!

It had taken me a while to get my Pilfer-ico to roll both Power Drums and Healing Bubble. It also came with Status Up and Paralysis immunity. I have a twin Palico that lacks the drums but has Summon Endemic Life with a Sleep immunity and several attack boosts. I find the Sleep and Paralysis immunities are fantastic as your Buddies in this game are more proactive in knocking you out of such effects. After watching this video I decided Wirebug Whisperer might be an option for my empty skill slots so I can better keep on the offensive while maintaining my Bead of Resonance.

This is the same palico I created as my 'best overall'. However... I have continually been surprised at the utility the palamute can provide during a hunt. Far more than I originally thought. He's way more than just a ride, although the riding is great in and of itself. It's gotten to the point that if I need to heal I whistle for my palamute first, because once you're riding him, very few monsters can deal with it in any way. From there you can heal in complete safety, which on more aggressive monsters can be important since they may kill you during a heal walk. The palamute can jump in front of you and umbrella block attacks (currently investigating if affected by artful dodger). The palamute heal is also pretty amazing. If you see your palamute use the aoe heal scroll, hop on him and if your team is in range, you can heal everyone in only around 3 attacks, which is extremely fast and free. The team is in fact basically invulnerable while you continue to attack. A palico attack buff may shorten hunts, but so does the ability to move fast, though I haven't compared. And I continue to find new uses for him as a play. So don't dismiss the palamute entirely. He may not pound for pound do as much as a second palico, but he's way more than a simple mount.

I'd still argue that the vase of vitality is an equally viable pick on lvl 10 tier. It's even buffed compared to Generations and it's now nulberry, energy drink, antidote and triple roll all in one (and perhaps few more things) which can just be wiredashed through and it seems like palico activates it always when I really need it. It saves a lot of space in inventory and it's overall a great utility skill. Honestly, I just love the comfort it provides. I know, everyone is into damage buffs but I like comfort a lot. Saying that, I'm basically looking into two palicoes. One with healing bubbles, vase of vitality and shock purrrison (already got one, now I'm rolling for an improvement on passive skills) and the other with fight-go-win, drums and purrrison for that sweet damage :D

Whirlwind assault is not there for the damage, the point of it is that it hits at a rapid rate and is thus the lvl 5 option for applying status effects. And as other have pointed out the felyne silkbind binds the monster to a small area, any mounting damage is just a bonus. Apart from these errors I agree with the video though

I wasn't even paying attention to the entire sets my Palicos had and I managed to have 2 Palicos that have almost the same set of skills as the best one shown here. Damn, I got lucky on mine, but I will still try to keep an eye out for that perfect Palico as a whole.

The Palicoes actually have an affinity on the type of skills they have. A fighter palico would use Power Drum more frequently than the others types since it's a fighter skill. It would also use Go, Fight, Win at lesser frequency as compared to an assist type. My main palico is a fighter type. It's 3 mid skills are: Healing Bubble, Power Drum, Fleet-foot Feat. The reason for the palico type is that it has Rousing Roar making it able to give me 2 buffs along with Power Drum. Another reason, though I haven't really had confirmation yet for MH Rise but in the older titles, enraged Palicoes use their abilities quite more often and the only way to enrage a Palico in MH Rise is via the Furr-ious ability which is exclusive to fighter palicoes.

I literally started my game to compare my current palico with the skills that Josh would mention in the video, just to see, that he mentions all the skills my palico has. Mine has Mega Boomerang, Power Drum and Shock Purr-ison :D

I'd argue that the Boomerang is better than Go, Fight, Win when you don't use stamina heavy weapons. The buff lasts for 60 seconds. The Boomerang is deceptively strong at applying status ailments as it deals damage based on the weapon equiped and it's a multi hitting move that hits when thrown and then again when it rebounds.

The omission that fighter palicoes give 30% affinity and earplugs level 3 is rather daunting. Ear plugs is a side effect, but the 30% opens up some REALLY good alternate builds that do decent damage. I would argue at least one fighter and one gatherer would be best

I got this exact gathering cat last night. I just wish he'd had Healing Bubble over Go, Fight, Win but I won't complain, since the cat also has Status Attack Up and Knockout King. I threw the Gothjelly weapon on him that does blunt damage and has paralysis on it and I'm getting a KO and a paralyze at least once per hunt, too. And if he decides to launch a sleep toad with Endemic Life Barrage, that's at least one sleep per hunt as well. Really insanely good cat.

I got so lucky with my Palico. The only downside is that he has camouflage instead of power drum but he has been, aside from a little clumsiness, a very helpful partner.

I got two gathering cats One with the buff in slot 2 and one with stamina reduction in slot 2 The later is for farming, the first for fighting and i take both for rampages as the traps are just AMAZING to buy you more time to aim For the secondary stuff, i like omniresistence, prevent sleep/prevent roar and health up

I disagree with the level 15 choice, on paper it is, indeed, the best choice but on actual fight the palico just never do this skill. He uses the trap only when the monster is capturable ( at least, it's my experience with this ) . Imo, i recommend shock tripper ( the one that inflicts thunderblight ). But great video anyway !! And sorry for my poor english !

I just "rerolled" my starter palico earlier this evening into a gatherer like suggested and I have to say the difference is amazing! More consistent status affliction! More damage! And to top it all off she got me TWO Magna Orbs from pilfering in one Magnamalo hunt! How did I ever do without the perfect palico until now??

I like mega boomerang because based on the description, it uses the weapon status ailment. Got myself 2 palicos that have elemental/status attack up with sleep weapons. Poor monsters go night night so fast. Also the gathering palico's endemic barrage can back to back sleep a monster. I've had one use it, did my wake up hit, then the other put him right back to sleep haha

I wish there was a way to make palicos as determined to see us survive as they were in previous titles. When you got stunned, you best believe your palico was rushing to your side more times than not. Nowadays you get stunned and your palico just smiles and waves. Maybe it will rush to you right at the end after you've been destroying your analogue stick but by then the monster has hit you and the palico has succeeded in being an arse.
