Hello Josh and Cotton. Someone over in another reply thread explained it as thus: Pigsy used to be a marshall in the celestial armies. The white-haired lady was the moon goddess. While he was chasing her, he bumped into one of her handmaidens. In the original story, I think he was cursed for doing something MUCH more inappropriate, but here he happens upon a tryst between the Moon Goddess and the JADE EMPEROR. Y'know, the big honcho of the Celestial Bureaucracy. Seeing an affair like this exposed would be scandalous, to say the least. So he was dropped into the mortal realms as punishment for this indiscretion, to live 1000 lifetimes of heartbreak. Yeah the Jade Emperor is a DICK. The handmaiden, learning what happened, followed Pigsy to the Mortal Realms, giving away her divinity. HOWEVER, due to a quirk of the Chinese language, she mistook "pig" with "spider", so when she incarnated she became a spider-gwai. She still had no idea where he was though. When Zanzang and Wukong and co were on their pilgrimage, they happened upon this coven of spider-women, and as you saw, Pigsy went and took a peek. Violet Spider saw him, and IMMEDIATELY realized that, yeah, this was her vanished Marshall. In the original story, I think Wukong and the others just fight them off, but here its instead implied that snu-snu happened, hence the youngest daughter. The song itself is a lovesong, where the guy pretty much says, "In my next life DO NOT LOOK FOR ME", while the woman says, "In my next life, I WILL FIND YOU."

Missing from this summary is the fact that, the reason Pigsy so vehemently denies Violet Spider, and outright calls his own daughter a disgusting spider, is to protect them. If the Celestial Court found out about their relationship, they'd kill the spiders. So he has to act like he hates them and stay away from them in order to keep them safe.

In the original story and some retellings the other spider "daughters" are actually sisters of the violet spider as in actual nature spiders give birth to huge batches of spiders. The violet spider being the eldest of the bunch can also be refer to mother or auntie in Chinese. Hopefully this helps answer your question.

@@sharplosion1 Fun fact, Erlang's actually half human and half god. His mother's actually Jade Emperor's younger sister who went to mortal realm and married a human and gave birth to him. This angered Jade Emperor greatly and he imprisoned his sister under a mountain until Erlang later got strong and cut open that mountain with his big AXE. Erlang doesn't really care for his uncle, the Jade Emperor that much really and would prefer to have nothing to do with him.

I don't know all of Journey to the West, but I did recognize a lot. The Ox King is very much one of the most powerful characters, as Sun Wukong couldn't beat him in a straight fight, strength-to-strength.

Technically, they fought to a stalemate, but Pigsy joining in turned the tide to favor Wukong, so the Bull King just started running and refused to directly engage them, so they had to request the aid of the Celestial Army and Nezha to corral him in and tie him down to actually end the fight.

a neat detail in the animation for chapter 4...when the Violet Spider & Bajie emerge from the water in an underground cavern, Bajie temporarily for a split second assumes the form of Zhu Ganglie, before reverting to Bajie and then fully turning into his true form

Pig (Zhu) and Spider (Zhu). Zhu Bajie was once an Admiral of the Heavenly Court until he caught an affair in the heavenly palace cast down on earth to suffer 1000 love tragedies. A Fairy of the heavenly palace fall in love with him and once she misheard he was cast down as a pig (Zhu) she abandon her post and become a Spider (Zhu)
