It'll be interesting to see just how much the hyper-local cultural jokes will fly over their heads, especially since I'm from the North of England where this game is set (and the creators are from). EDIT: Here's the jokes and references 5:00 The Latin above the door says "Strong in arm, Thick in head". Common stereotype is that Northern England is full of strong but stupid labourers. 5:45 Meggs is a reference to Greggs; a popular fast food bakery 6:10 Some former industrial towns are comically over-run with fast food outlets that they have to start appending numbers to the name 6:50 The bottle behind the lamppost reads "White Shite", a reference to a dirt cheap alcoholic drink called White Lightening that a lot of teenagers binge drink on the street 7:00 Every street will ALWAYS have that one white van that seems to never move. You know it's used for work, but it only ever seems to move when not observed. 10:25 Reference to the British Transport Police slogan "See it, Say it, Sorted". 10:37 "Milk Snatcher" was Margaret Thatcher's nickname, because she stopped giving school children free bottles of milk. She was DESPISED in Northern England 11:10 The propensity for Yorkshire people (especially the older generation) to invite pretty much anyone around for tea, but not really, because they said it out of politeness. 12:35 "Workshy" = Lazy. "Fop" = a dandy. "Workshy Fop" = a lazy idiot with nothing going on upstairs. 14:30 Ronny (the man talking about a cobbler's pint) is a reference to Timpsons, a chain of Cobblers + Key Cutting places in England. 17:06 It's actually a stereotype that people in Northern England are very friendly. 21:45 Princess Diana commemorative plate 21:58 "Nonce" means Paedophile. 23:00 Price Shaggers is a reference to a discount shop called Pound Stretchers. The slogan on the door is an inverse of a German supermarket's slogan (High on Quality, Low on Price). The big stand inside with the thumbs up is where you buy and fill out lottery tickets. 23:40 "Jay N Mel" is a reference to "JML"; a brand of garbage as seen on TV products 24:50 "Lester Packs Lunches" can mean one of two things; he's a "dinner lady" (what an American would call a lunch lady), or he does anal. 25:15 "Bif's" is a reference to Biffa, a common brand of large scale waste disposal in the UK. 26:07 "Dogging" means to have sex in a semi-secluded place, often in your car, where you invite others to watch and even join in. Hence the set-up for the joke "No Parking, No Loitering, No Dogging" 26:21 The "Bobby Bashing Area" is a play on the UK Neighbourhood Watch sign. 25:56 "Toad in the Hole" is a popular dish where some kind of red meat is baked into a yorkshire pudding. "Apples and Pairs" is Cockney Rhyming Slang for "Stairs". 28:30 Not a reference but you didn't listen to the little worm's fun fact :( 29:50 You didn't finish "cleaning up" the fish stall. They're all "smoked kippers" so you have to knock the cigarettes out of them all. 29:59 They've written it weirdly, but it's "an' ahl"/"and all", which is a very context sensitive piece of language, but it's often used the same as "as well". Northern English, especially North East, hasn't changed much since the 1500s so a lot of language is very old. It's why some characters in the game greet you with "How" instead of "Hello", because before the use of the word Hello as a greeting, the standard English introduction was "How do you do", shortened to "How", hence "How Lad". 31:16 Another name for a Dachshund in the UK is a "sausage dog", and you were just inside a giant sausage, hence the old woman calling it a dog.

I suspect it is a psychological tactic thing, that people aren't likely to click on a video of theirs if they see a 2 or higher episode number in it and weren't following since episode 1. If there's no episode number, you might just click on any random video of theirs and then navigate to the playlist from there. Plus it keeps video names short and the tags get the job done.

Yeah, I don't know much about English regions, but knowing what I know about human nature people do not like it when you are mistaken for your neighbors. Yes, to outsiders you might look the same, but to those within the regions, they couldn't be more different. Kinda like if someone mistook Kansas for Oklahoma... or depending on how much animosity is between north and south maybe it's more like mistaking Kansas for Missouri (which is a good way to accidentally start a fight)

Edit: also the guy that keeps getting stuck in things is basically us northerners view of British posh southerners, I mean they kinda mean to same thing but you get the jist Oh and the whole “mother meggs” shop thing is a reference to one of the most beloved food places here up in the north called “Greggs” which are loved for their sausage rolls and pasty’s, also “Fop” is just our way of calling somebody a fool, to be foppish is to be silly and incompetent Edit 2: I FUCKING LOVE DAN NEEDING AN ENGLISH TRANSLATOR FOR THIS I didn’t even think about it at all because I hear this every day everywhere (all be it less extreme USUALLY)

Milk Snatcher Out! Is a reference to the Prime Minister of the time, Margaret Thatcher who was very unpopular in Yorkshire and many other working class areas across the UK. She was responsible for shutting down the mines, which were a huge source of employment. But also at the time, kids at school were given free milk, and she put a stop to that, for some reason. Danny, "Anorl" means "as well". As in "we'll get you a pint Anorl" > "we'll get you a pint as well" It also gets used as a kind of "me too" as in: "I'm proper hungry!" "me anorl" Pronounced closer to "an all"

11:15 - Dan mentioned The Young Ones! I was thinking the exact same thing, especially with the flower mower bit. Reminded me of a specific scene from The Young Ones where a sentient carrot and a stick of butter are skating together in the sink, and one of them gets squished by a plate.

I *gasped* when he mentioned The Young Ones and headed straight to the comment section. The second I realized what this game was, all I could think about was the puppetry of that show and the energy of that entire era of British comedy. I'm a massive fan of Rik, Ade, and everyone from The Comic Strip and so glad to see other people talk fondly of this. The flower thing, absolutely. I thought of those two rats in the pilot talking to each other before Rick smashed one with Neil's guitar and the surviving rat eats the other. ""Euripides trousers...you menda these trousers!"

Anorl is “and all” usually meaning ‘too’ though it’s not an exclusive context. So the caption ‘That’s what I thought anorl’, means ‘that’s what i thought too’. We don’t type anorl, it’s just how it’s pronounced (an-all) in speech.

The flower bit reminds me of some comedy advice from a Simpsons producer. In the audio commentary for an older season (forgot which episode and which producer) they basically said if you keep a joke going on and on it’ll get less and less funny. It’s like a slow decline, but after a certain point it shoots right back up to the funniest thing ever. 😂
