It'll be interesting to see just how much the hyper-local cultural jokes will fly over their heads, especially since I'm from the North of England where this game is set (and the creators are from). EDIT: Here's the jokes and references 5:00 The Latin above the door says "Strong in arm, Thick in head". Common stereotype is that Northern England is full of strong but stupid labourers. 5:45 Meggs is a reference to Greggs; a popular fast food bakery 6:10 Some former industrial towns are comically over-run with fast food outlets that they have to start appending numbers to the name 6:50 The bottle behind the lamppost reads "White Shite", a reference to a dirt cheap alcoholic drink called White Lightening that a lot of teenagers binge drink on the street 7:00 Every street will ALWAYS have that one white van that seems to never move. You know it's used for work, but it only ever seems to move when not observed. 10:25 Reference to the British Transport Police slogan "See it, Say it, Sorted". 10:37 "Milk Snatcher" was Margaret Thatcher's nickname, because she stopped giving school children free bottles of milk. She was DESPISED in Northern England 11:10 The propensity for Yorkshire people (especially the older generation) to invite pretty much anyone around for tea, but not really, because they said it out of politeness. 12:35 "Workshy" = Lazy. "Fop" = a dandy. "Workshy Fop" = a lazy idiot with nothing going on upstairs. 14:30 Ronny (the man talking about a cobbler's pint) is a reference to Timpsons, a chain of Cobblers + Key Cutting places in England. 17:06 It's actually a stereotype that people in Northern England are very friendly. 21:45 Princess Diana commemorative plate 21:58 "Nonce" means Paedophile. 23:00 Price Shaggers is a reference to a discount shop called Pound Stretchers. The slogan on the door is an inverse of a German supermarket's slogan (High on Quality, Low on Price). The big stand inside with the thumbs up is where you buy and fill out lottery tickets. 23:40 "Jay N Mel" is a reference to "JML"; a brand of garbage as seen on TV products 24:50 "Lester Packs Lunches" can mean one of two things; he's a "dinner lady" (what an American would call a lunch lady), or he does anal. 25:15 "Bif's" is a reference to Biffa, a common brand of large scale waste disposal in the UK. 26:07 "Dogging" means to have sex in a semi-secluded place, often in your car, where you invite others to watch and even join in. Hence the set-up for the joke "No Parking, No Loitering, No Dogging" 26:21 The "Bobby Bashing Area" is a play on the UK Neighbourhood Watch sign. 25:56 "Toad in the Hole" is a popular dish where some kind of red meat is baked into a yorkshire pudding. "Apples and Pairs" is Cockney Rhyming Slang for "Stairs". 28:30 Not a reference but you didn't listen to the little worm's fun fact :( 29:50 You didn't finish "cleaning up" the fish stall. They're all "smoked kippers" so you have to knock the cigarettes out of them all. 29:59 They've written it weirdly, but it's "an' ahl"/"and all", which is a very context sensitive piece of language, but it's often used the same as "as well". Northern English, especially North East, hasn't changed much since the 1500s so a lot of language is very old. It's why some characters in the game greet you with "How" instead of "Hello", because before the use of the word Hello as a greeting, the standard English introduction was "How do you do", shortened to "How", hence "How Lad". 31:16 Another name for a Dachshund in the UK is a "sausage dog", and you were just inside a giant sausage, hence the old woman calling it a dog.

@lazra43212 ай бұрын
Anorl is “and all” usually meaning ‘too’ though it’s not an exclusive context. So the caption ‘That’s what I thought anorl’, means ‘that’s what i thought too’. We don’t type anorl, it’s just how it’s pronounced (an-all) in speech.

@@puddinbuns Eh, as someone else with ADHD I've grown weary of it being used an excuse for him acting the way he does--because it's not just that. He's impatient and jaded and that just means he and Dan end up missing some cool shit in a lot of games. I still want them to continue as well...but if they do I'm resigning myself to the fact that they're going to miss all of the jokes that aren't scripted into cutscenes.

The flower bit reminds me of some comedy advice from a Simpsons producer. In the audio commentary for an older season (forgot which episode and which producer) they basically said if you keep a joke going on and on it’ll get less and less funny. It’s like a slow decline, but after a certain point it shoots right back up to the funniest thing ever. 😂
@MajoraMan7022 ай бұрын
This reminds me a lot of Jazzpunk, another very funny game where the exploration gameplay is mostly a means to show off all of the jokes that the creators stuffed the game with. That would also be a great and short Game Grumps series.
