People get usually confused about Mi-8 radios and why they are scattered around like that. It is very simple to understand. The left seat is the pilot-commander and responsible only for flying and attacking. The primary guy. The right seat is the pilot-navigator that is responsible to assist pilot-commander in navigation, communications and flying. The center seat is the flight engineer, responsible to assist both pilots and manage the cargo space. Every single person in helicopter has their own radio set, there are six. Pilot-commander Pilot-navigator Flight engineer Door gunner Troop leader Rear door gunner But only the three guys at front can tune radios for various purposes. Pilot-commander has a primary radio for communication with ATC, Flight and Fighters. He utilizes a 20 channel presets for that task, and flight engineer can help him to swap channels on upper panel. Then pilot-navigator has radios for ground units, as well manual tuning the primary radio in center panel. He has all radios and navigation systems to tune. His primary task is to communicate with ground units using R-828 and cooperate the tactics with them. The flight engineer has on right side of the doorway a button to talk, just same way to possibility have a HOT MIC for continuing transmission. The DCS doesn't model the real radios capabilities where both pilots can have separate radios with the common ICS. So when a pilot sets their control panel above their heads for wanted radio, it should be only for them. So the knob shouldn't turn in other side. This means that pilot-commander can listen GCI on primary radio, while talking over ICS to pilot-navigator. And pilot navigator can listen ground troops communications while listening pilot-commander. The reason as well why the pilot-navigator radio compass doesn't work is as he should be able tune it to another radio than pilot-commander does. So you can have two separate radio needles turning. Both pilots can as well turn their headsets to same radio, so they can both talk to each others using ICS but as well listen and talk over same radio to troops on ground or air. The manual says that all six of the stations should be able to to select what radio to use and ICS as primary. And there is possibility have a two different networks where likely intercom is separated. But that is not modeled in Hip, but likely soon released Hind it will be.

This is a fantastic comment, thank you very much for sharing! That makes way more sense than locking the entire crew into a single radio like we have in game. Maybe they will update this when the Hip gets multicrew. That would be nice.

Superb comment indeed. Let's hope it will be implemented in the Hind...one fine day in the distant future.

Best tutorials available. So in depth, love the concepts and the background on the systems. Please consider doing more playlists for other modules.

If these playlists weren't such a huge undertaking and I had more time available to me during the day while I'm still alert I absolutely would. Unfortunately the most I will be doing for the Huey, Shark, and Gazelle will be an occasional one-off (like the Gazelle hover vid). I do plan to make a full playlist for the upcoming Mi-24P Hind, though. That has been at the top of my wishlist for years, I cannot pass up the opportunity to learn it inside and out.

@@vsTerminus quick question. How did you get the English cargo guy during the sling loading missions? Is that a mod?
@vsTerminus
@vsTerminus 4 жыл бұрын
@@ItzAllMine360 No, it depends on what country the Mi-8 is set to in the Mission Editor. If you are flying for USA the crew chief will speak English.

@@vsTerminus AHH thanks a bunch man. That's me setting up some voice attack after seeing the logistics vids. Finally figured out how to get my mirrors up today as well. Thanks for all the training, really appreciate it. Thought I might mention though there's one vid, can't remember the name, some thing about backward rotor stalling? That will never open on mobile. Well mine at least. Sure it opened on the TV app though. Just stays at a loading screen on mobile. Tried several times over the course of a few weeks, same result each time. All the best dude and thanks again.

Thank you for the tips! I wanted to setup a mission where two afghan airforce Mi 8 rescue a squad deep in enemy territory. Now I know how to get to the fallen. Thank you!

Hopefully one day ED would fix the radios in the Mi-8. As currently pilot and co-pilot are forced to listen same radio, as both sides radio selector knob rotates same time. They should be independent, so that example pilot can be listening UHF and monitor ICS, and co-pilot to listen ICS and monitor VHF. And same time pilot to have the navigation guidance going.

Bro this has made me wanna study the mi8 again and because of these tutorials and also the "search and rescue" server my attention span for the Hip has really taken hold so thankyou for these. Any chance of tutorials on using the NS430 in the Hip? Only because you speak to me in a language I can understand.. Simple and clear... pretty please.

NS430 is definitely on my list. If you haven't seen it already, check out my intro to multiplayer logistics video. I demoed a few ways to use the NS430 in that one.

YOU have single handedly made me a better helo pilot. You could have MP server time and people would come from all over. Imagine an Mi8 flying group. 5? 6? 8? 12?! that would be a game element people would want to play for. as CAP, as CAS. expand online play to mission oriented work.

I'd be among the first to join the Mi-8 Helo Mafia family , if it came to that. Mi-8 is love. Mi-8 is life. You know what they say about the big lady: "Once you fly fat, you never go back!"
