The "shadow" on the stage in the AA meetings (eps 2 and 3) is a mirror. It was in the movie Oculus (also by Flanagan), and it can be spotted in the background of everything he has made since (including Hill House, Bly Manor and House of Usher). You guys should give his movies a try (especially Oculus, Ouiji: Origin of Evil, and Doctor Sleep). Blake will *love* them. 😄

So without giving too much away- Monsignor Pruitt drank from the vampire (“angel”) and it made him healthier and younger. He truly thinks it is an angel of god and wanted to help his congregation so he brought it back and gave its blood to his town in the wine to help them too. An unforeseen circumstance, because again he really thinks it’s an angel and not a vampire, is that since he’s drank the blood he will come back as one as well if he dies. So when he died that’s why there is the second “miracle” of him resurrecting. Also the vampire looks like that because it has more than likely existed in that cave for centuries, millenniums maybe even. Hope this helps yall! Love this show and yall! ❤

I never understood why the vampire was "trapped" in the cave before paul found him? Couldn't the vampire just have left at night? Or was it too weak because it hadn't had a feed? Is that why he rewarded paul by giving him his blood?

Since you praised Hassan/Owens performance: Rahul Koli, the actor, talked on a few podcasts (can be found on yt and worth a private watch AFTER you finished the show!) about how this role almost made him quit acting and how much he was struggling and doubting his abilities on set. A lot of it had to do with shooting starting just as covid hit and the whole uncertainty and different set procedures making this a less social shoot out of safety measures, but he also says that he specifically felt weird playing Hassan since he isn't a father and younger irl than Hassan and also not a muslim, and her was very aware of the responsibility to tell this right. Also, Mike offered him the role specifically after playing Owen, which was a role he is much more comfortable in. He talks about it in detail and it was really fascinating to hear since when the show dropped (and still, as you do here) people were singing his praises for his acting ability and the respectful tact and earnestness with which he portrayed a muslim.

Imagine, no one has ever heard of vampires. What happened to the priest and what he interpreted there actually resembles an angel. He saw something he couldn't explain, and he lost blood. That leads to halocinations, so he saw a halo. He could only compare it to an angel, because that was the only logical explanation for him that comes with his experience. So the Father is not evil, he only succumbs to a monumental error that goes hand in hand with his faith in such a way that he does not question anything. Instead, he searches the Bible for verses that he used to see differently and now automatically reinterprets them. He is truly convinced that God gave him a commission and that he does good things for his town. This is so tragic and unfortunate. Remember, Beth is not the first person to recognize the priest, it was the lady with Alzheimer's. She recognized the young father and later she told her daughter that she saw her father out there. As always, this series is so well thought out and elaborated by Flannigan.

I think it was brilliant of this show to take the concept of an angel and apply it to a vampire, because... it fits. Obviously, some creative liberties were taken, but in the Bible whenever people meet angels, even those people who are close to God and are good, all of them without fail drop to their knees in TERROR of the angels. Paul sees a creature with wings who is TERRIFYING and was able to perform a miracle and make his body young again... he could be forgiven for using his interpretation of an angel in the Bible and applying it to the creature, because it fits.

I just realized, did he pick the name Paul Hill as a play on the word "Apostle"? And I think Bev was trying to poison him, not as a test, but because she wanted him out, and wanted the power and influence to herself. The vampire blood made him strong, so the poison doesn't kill him the first time. He already drank it before testing Leeza, and immediately after she walks, he runs away and spits out blood. Bev follows because she wants to make sure he's dead and that there are no witnesses, and due to her role she can play it off as being an overbearingly caring attendant.

I think he hit the tolerance for the living to have the blood in him. Just as everyone would eventually hit. I don't think Bev would poison him.
@ny6978
@ny6978 9 күн бұрын
@@RealBradMiller Interesting idea, spoiler alert though: By the end of the show, most of the town already ingested a ton of vampire blood starting from the first episode, and they don't vomit blood. Bev is also seen carrying the rat poison again in this episode. The poison didn't kill him the first time, so she does it again, and this time it kills him in the same way Pike dies. EDIT: I just saw the interview with Mike Flanagan, and he confirms you were right, Bev didn't poison him. However I think it just makes too much sense for her to do it, and if Flanagan said that she did it, it would be believable. Bev is a sociopath and a great liar so her "legitimate surprise" at him dying felt like a performance to me. But yes, you were right and I learned something today.

"Midnight Mass" seems to be a loose retelling of the "Faust" legend. The Faust legend was of some significance in Northern European thought during the Renaissance. Faust was made into a symbol of free thought, anti-clericalism, and opposition to Church dogma. A key concept in the Faust legend is the "Faustian Bargain." A "Faustian Bargain" is a lop-sided bargain between two unequal parties. One party is in a superior (stronger) position, the other inferior (weaker). Such a bargain entails the person in the weaker position trading something of long-term supreme moral or spiritual importance, like his personal values or his soul, for some short-term worldly or material benefit. Typically, the person pays too high a price and either gets cheated or finds that what they received in exchange was less valuable than they first thought. The result is tragedy. "Faustian Bargain" has its origin in the quasi-mythical figure of John Faust, a 15th-16th century German who supposedly sold his soul to the Devil in order to procure supernatural powers. Interestingly, Msgr. Pruitt's Christian name is John. Two important literary works, both plays, are based on the Faust legend. They are Christopher Marlowe's "Tragical History of Doctor Faustus (1588)" and Johann von Goethe's "Faust" (1808/1832). Nathanial Hawthorne's short-story "Young Goodman Brown (1835)" is also based on the Faust legend. In this episode of "Midnight Mass," we learn that Msgr. Pruitt has apparently concluded a "Faustian Bargain" with his "angel." It's also worth noting that in both plays, Faust has a servant/assistant, Wagner, who also dabbles in the black-arts. Bev Keane seems to fulfill that role in "Midnight Mass." Both plays also feature a woman whom Faust loves, apropos, perhaps, of Mildred in "Midnight Mass." The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

There are a couple more states that have done this and Texas is trying to get that law past and Governor hot wheels is trying to push it through. There goes separation of church and state as the founding fathers wrote. It is a part of project 2025 and they are trying to get things started… and here we are! OK was the first to do it.

For real, props to the actress. Saw her in another show, and hated her character at first, just out of habit. 😂

I hate to say this but I genuinely feel like you guys should go into each episode blind without trying to guess what’s going to happen next. Feel like over discussing it beforehand is just going to spoil the episodes for ye..I don’t think being the first to guess what happens is a great idea lol

i kinda agree cause someone could have “figured it out” and then the mystery is kinda gone for else. i prefer everyone to keep to theories to themselves when watching something together, but that’s just my viewing preference, and if the raggedy pack prefer it different, then so be it! :)

It's hilarious watching you guys, so excited about the show, that you talk over some great dialogue. 😂 Then say "What?" as if they didn't just explain it. Y'all have thrown out some interesting theories and predictions though.

You will hate Beth as you haven't hated any other character before. Samantha Sloyan plays her perfectly in all her self-righteous hatefullness.

Love this series because it is about religion, but have a dark turn. That's why people are dumb enough to believe in things that they believe although nobody knows the real truth about the world. Some people in this series are believing that the vampire is a angel but it a f**king vampire, a bunch of amateurs. The rest of the people who didn't believe that the vampire is an angel are the heroes of this series.

I hated Bev from her first scene. I know people just like her. And all the flowers to the actor for creating that character.
