I've heard people say "well you can see her slowly turning bad" or "showing she was going mad" but I don't see it. Throughout the show she never hurt people just because she "felt" like it or for petty reasons like cersie, usually the people were actively trying to kill her or had done something to hurt her or her people. It made sense that towards the end she was being less merciful, I mean at the end of the day it was a war that was killing her soldiers and hurting her dragons. She still gave people the option to surrender. It was bad writing for her to suddenly want to kill innocent people. I would have understood if she had decided to kill cersie even after she surrendered cuz she had killed her closest friend but how could she go from "I want to help people and free the innocents" to "nah f*ck everyone".

John in her eyes betrayed her. Like I said I get the frustration and in my view 3 more episodes would have perhaps helped in making it more palatable her sudden shift from liberator to conqueror.

My biggest thing was always that we didn't get a transition that made it believable Dany would slaughter surrendering innocents. All the people she slaughtered before were people she believed had wronged her or had harmed innocents, and they certainly weren't surrendering. Sure, she'd been bloodthirsty before and that could have led up to this, but the fact that up until now she'd only ever gone on about protecting innocents and getting vengeance on her enemies makes it jarring that she makes this choice. If they hadn't rang the bells, maaaaybe you could argue she still felt like they were standing against her, but damn, they had just surrendered! Just crazy jarring to get there

Dany's craziness definitely made sense to me. You could see it developing since season 1. She never had a problem with torching people who went against her, the only difference was that those people were considered "evil" under the circumstances. Also, Essos was full of slaves, so of course, when she freed them, they were going to love and worship her. In my opinion, she developed a bit of a hero complex. Unfortunately for her, in Westeros, there were no slaves, no people to liberate, everyone already had people that they were loyal to (mainly the Starks) and she didn't like that. Like she said "I have no love here. Only fear." She had a very "You're either with me, or against me" attitude, and because the people of King's Landing weren't with her, she didn't really care if she burned them all. Of course losing her dragons, Jorah and Missandei didn't help matters.
@emilrobyn42162 ай бұрын
I get why Dany saw red and wanted revenge. But I don't get why she didn't fly directly to the red keep and burn that down, but instead decided to take the scenic route killing every one in her path - a lot of friendlies included. How could she have know Jon or Greyworm weren't in one of the many streets she burned? I would buy that she didn't care about colleteral damage among civilians, but not her own army.

Dany gets a lot of grief for this episode but I understand why she did what she did, kinda. Even though she helped kill the night king she was still being treated as an outsider. I think Lord Tarley refusing to bend the knee hurt her too. Even though she’s a Targaryen she’s being treated coldly and not welcoming at all. She’s lost 2 dragons and Missandei and Jorah. Lady Olenna told her to be the dragon because Olenna understood what it would take to defeat Cersei. Missandei’s last word was dracarys. I don’t hate Dany as much as everyone else does.

From early on in the series they eluded to the streak of madness that is in the Targareyan bloodline. It is also mentioned in the books by several characters in different books as well. There is an adage in the story that goes “ when a Targaryen is born the Gods flip a coin” and there were hints of that dark side of the blood in Dany in the series.

I think that in the climax of "Cleganebowl", Sandor realized at that moment that his brother had become, essentially, a wight, and lacking dragonglass or Valyrian steel, fire was the only solution, so he made sure that there was no way for him to escape the fire by sacrificing himself to be certain he had no exit.
@bill.godwin-austen2 ай бұрын
Corey was spot-on... had she gone straight for the Red Keep instead of torching the entire city, it would have been understandable. Her fight was with Cersei, not everyone in the city. There were a lot of great scenes, great moments, and some amazing cinematography in this, but in far too many cases D&D and the writers must have checked their logic at the door. Far too much of GRRM's great foreshadowing want unresolved or ignored.

I appreciate how kindly Igli speaks even for irredeemable characters and how unique his perspective is. Keep up the good work gentlemen. I agree with you both. At the same time, she's constantly had her back against the wall. Even her most evil choices were usually done under the threat of her or her family.

Ellaria + the Snakes seeking vengeance against a fair fight, much less against a blameless child, is the pinnacle of stupidity.

If her madness had developed more I would buy it, but not like this. Also, at the moment when everything starts to burn, Danny is never seen again, I still think it is because it is impossible to show her and for what is happening to be coherent. a destruction of character. I totally get it and as a huge Jamie fan I expected and hoped his arc would go differently but i was surprisingly okay how it played out but with that said I think it could be true that Jamie both did and didn't care about the innocent people of King's landing when he took out the mad King because ultimately in those moments Jamie was saving his OWN life along with everyone else's and by doing so he obviously earned the street cred of saving innocent lives regardless if he cared or not he still earned the right to use that as his justification and reasoning... Could the show have done a better job at clarifying his exact thoughts and reasoning on such subjects ?yes but I personally feel I know the character well enough from the show to at least buy into that he both cared but didn't care, again it was just in the heat of the moment where his leader was about to destroy everything and everyone and Jamie wasn't about that lol Jamie's departure from winterfell in episode 4 is something I was also okay with when Jamie's sitting in front of the fire and the cameras spinning around him I'm thinking about what Jamie's thinking about and that being all the reasons he should leave and shouldn't leave and that ultimately he chose cersei because if he left her and their unborn child to die then everything horrible that he had done for her and that he himself then endured the consequences of all would have been for nothing and because like cersei said in season 5 he's a" Man of action" always acting on instinct regardless of the consequences so it works for me🤷🤣

The argument that she wouldn’t do it just doesn’t fly with me, that would be like saying Anakin would never become Darth Vader, there are so many parallels between Anakin and Daenerys. I don’t have an issue with the plot line itself, it’s the writing and execution of it that I didn’t like and it was all part of the 3 eyed ravens plan to get her out of the picture to leave the throne free for himself to be crowned, that’s why he was pulling the strings and being the puppet master, knowing full well that it would send her over the edge, he was kind of the Palpatine of the story

Re: Dany never taking it out on innocents... there were at couple of times that at best might be considered "gray areas"... when she crucified the 162 (or thereabouts) masters as punishment for the ones they had crucified on the road to Mereen, it seems that it might have been 162 randomly chosen ones (if Hizdar can be believed that his father opposed it), killing a few innocents among the guilty. And the seemingly randomly selected guy she fed to her dragons to send the masters a message... it wasn't a case of singling out someone who had clearly done something wrong, he was just pulled out of line and thrown to the dragons. Most of her early arc was clearly one of being on the side of the oppressed and righting wrongs, but in at least those two cases, we saw a glimmer of what became a meaningless massacre on steroids. It didn't help that the rush to get to the end that D&D imposed on the late seasons sacrificed (among other things) a strong narrative on how she was slowly starting to lose her mind.
@terripring51142 ай бұрын
Agreed. And there were several times where she threatened fire and blood to her enemies but was only talked out of it by her advisors and people she trusted. Also, I was thinking after watching this reaction...I haven't actually seen this episode live and through various reaction vids in years...when Jon is having that conversation with Dany. He says "You are my queen..." I can totally see how Dany would take this comment as a slight. I mean compared to Drogo. As messed up as Drogo was, he really loved Dany and wasn't afraid to show it. Jon? I mean I'm sure a part of her was comparing the two men, as women tend to. I understand what drove Jon to his feelings toward Dany at this point, but Jon (we can also compare his relationship with Ygritte to his relationship to Dany here)? It's all about duty and supporting his queen despite their opposing views. There is no love in his declaration and she knows it. Dany wanted Jon's unconditional love and support something she demands from her subjects. Jon is no subject but a king. This is not at all excusing Dany's behavior up to and past this point. She's gone paranoid and off the rails for sure and she can't get comfort and reassurance from anywhere. All of that is gone. Also, how can you feel as if Dany was betrayed by Varys if he ended up being right? I mean, being a Varys fan myself my opinion.

Completely agree with Igli in that I never freaking understood how Jaime became completely incompetent as a warrior after he lost his hand. For one thing being this skilled does not just have to do for his hand. Jaime was a great fighter in every way, he was agile, had quickness and was strong and so forth. In his prime he was pretty dominant. Also I am Right-Handed myself but I collect swords and I have been able to manipulate swords with my left hand and do good work with it. Especially the smaller lighter swords. Who can do plenty of damage. And they should have given Jaime a dagger on where his right hand was.

I don’t know why some people acted shocked when Daenerys burned kings landing cause she literally said in season 2 she was going to burnt cities to the grown… AND the Lannisters killer her best friend and one of her dragons so…

Just Watched Episode 1 Of Birdgerton, Just Because I Know That’s What You Guys Will Be Watching After GOT. Please Tell Me You Guys Didn’t Actually Choose That Over Supernatural? 😭😫

Downton Abby was trash, and it was still miles better than bridgerton. 😂

Supernatural and Buffy both had more votes, but they went with a shorter show so that slot wouldn't be locked for years.

tbh i support dany on what she did. it’s understandable considering everything that she’s been through

Blake just hates for the sake of hating… yeah it’s a shit conclusion, but saying that Varys didn’t approach Daenerys about the situation is dumb and dumber all over again… even Corey tries pulling you up there, but ignore because you rehearse the mic drop👏 You should be considered to write the GoT movie, Blake 🤦♂️

Once they post episode 6 on KZbin, I'll unfollow this channel. If I'm blocked before then, so be it. Blake has been a jerk throughout the entire GOT reaction series. Thank you Igil and Corey ❤. I'll miss your reactions to upcoming series and movies, but Blake isn't worth it.

Varys left the rings behind because he knew his time was up. He knew that the guards were coming for him to take him to his execution. Cersei has limited maternal ...it's conditional. She loves her kids as long as they don't interfere with her machinations. She didn't care two cents when Tommen offed himself and if she did it was brief and didn't last long. I always think of her reaction to Tommen's death and the episode when she saw the witch out in the woods where she received the prophecy about her kids. Her whole attitude seems to be easily overlooked because she supposedly loves her kids so much...when she's constantly shown that her love of her kids is cap. Again, it's conditional. Also, I hate it that it felt like the show catered to Cersei NOT being held accountable for all the wrong she's done. Just to have this cheesy icky romantic ending. I will never be able to stand behind the catering the writers consciously made to enable her reprehensible. She was like the female Ramsay/Joffrey, but she got off light. I don't care if she's a woman. I don't care if she "loves her children", whatever. Mothers can be monsters too, HELLO.

The shows real villain ? The white walkers? No. It’s people

Cersei doesn’t have any redeemable qualities….. literally not one. She’s a TERRIBLE mother. She was told from childhood that her children would be taken from her and she did absolutely nothing to protect them. The closest she did was sending Cella away…. WHICH SHE DIDNT WANT TO DO

The writing is just ridiculous 😒😒😒😒 Dany should have just used her dragons to begin with. She wouldn't have lost shit. Her problem was listening to stupid people.

The did Dany so dirty, but in a way I can kind of understand. Grief changes every molecule in your body, and she's had more than her fair share of it.
@DavidCarradinesBelt2 ай бұрын
The way it’s written it’s not grief, Danys just crazy
@jessielallier2 ай бұрын
@DavidCarradinesBelt Idk, they make sure to show us how she's not eating after Missendeis death. She won't see anyone, and she looks broken and exhausted. Looks like grief to me.
@DavidCarradinesBelt2 ай бұрын
Disagree, having Varys trying to poison her completely takes away that idea that danys grief is why she’s not eating. If she wasn’t eating then did something and after that Varys was trying to kill her then I would agree with you but again that’s not what happened.
