- so, the little boy in the wheelchair, was mentioned by olivia in episode 4 if you remember when she’s talking to hugh about their house vision-she says something on the lines of “a bookshelf so even the little boy in the wheelchair can reach it” the lady in the bed was mentioned by mrs. dudley last episode, i believe, but her name is hazel. - when hugh arrives and he sees the kids as their younger selves, it’s because it’s how he still see them. - when theo falls, it wasn’t scripted. katie actually fell in that moment but they couldn’t cut so they kept it going. - nell did push her casket down and she put the buttons on her eyes as well. she wanted her family to focus on coming together for her in this last moment but they kept arguing so she was trying to do everything she could to get them focused on this situation again. - “nobody could see me” is reflective on nell’s feelings and how she felt for her entire life. it’s a great message about her depression which the show touches on really well.

It's easy to hate on Steve, but I think there's a key part of his character that is barely mentioned and only eluded to a couple of times: that he was sent away to boarding school after the events when they were children. I won't say too much since it's not spelled out yet what happens but the rest of the siblings get to stay together while Steve, who was always working hard to be a help to his parents get separated from them. It's no wonder he has a different perspective on things when he had to be alone for 90% of the rest of his childhood and has ideas about how things could be different if their dad died instead of their mom. It doesn't make him right, but I always feel extra empathy towards him knowing that the other siblings didn't really care about his sense of belonging because they presumably thought he was just a little adult who didn't need emotional support even though he's only like 13 or so. As someone who was treated like an adult (well, neglected is more correct but still) as long as I can remember it's surprising how many people around you genuinely think you don't need emotional connections just because you are a mature child. Stuff like, when the extended family is putting up Christmas tree decorations i was asked to cook something and they just assumed I would be fine with missing out on that activity because I was the only kid who could take the responsibility of cooking despite being close to the youngest there. Afterwards they were surprised to find me crying because I wasn't allowed to dress the tree, and called me a childish spoil-sport for whining about that. I was barely 10 and had just that year been told that we weren't going to celebrate my birthdays anymore because "adults don't do that and you're mature enough for that". Ugh, like I wasn't just tricked out of having birthday celebrations...... Anyway, i feel for Steve.

They had to have people come in and literally pick the kids up and (quietly) run them out of the scene to swap with their adult counterparts because the kids couldn't move out of the shot fast enough for that spinning shot. 😁

At a horror fest convention I met Theo and the house keeper and the father who played as the younger version of him. Theo was such a sweetheart and had a lovely moment with her talking about the movie Hush which was her favorite movie she played in. She did all the stunts, took four months to get those correct shots of the crossbow aiming at her on the roof, she had to wear protective wear til they felt comfortable enough to go with the ride. Very impressive. She even learned sign language two years prior before this movie came about or that they have asked her to play the main female character. Awesome. Love her so much, I hope she attennds another convention near me. The house keeper was so kind and an amazing person, loved speaking with both of them together. The father lol he was shy lol and before I went to the convention I didn't realize he was Eliot from ET lol we had asked him if any whose seen him call him Eliot he said nah not really lmao just a normal guy living a normal life. Nothing wrong about that hehe I enjoy meeting the actors and actresses and trying my best to afford getting an autograph photo lol they're expensive. A handshake is enough for me

The perception look ahead and know in advance that you HAVE to build your sets of Hill House and The Funeral home Back to Back so in one moment in the middle of Episode 6 the dad can easily walk back into Hill House is an ability that EVERYONE wishes they had. The fact that he decided to take the time to use REAL rain machines, real water, and to preset the mood lighting was all genius. The filming of this episode was completed quicker than any other episode in the ENTIRE SERIES, it only took them 10 days to film. The setup (with no cast on stage) took just over 9 weeks. 9 weeks of planning, blocking, camera testing, rigging, mood lighting, and running through entire scenes WITHOUT the cast- so when they stepped on set, everything was ready.
@dartigens10
@dartigens10 6 ай бұрын
I feel like building the house as a set was also a smart move because it frees things up a lot - I'm sure something like the hallway loop would be doable in an actual built house with clever camera work, but it probably wouldn't look as good or it would be way more difficult.

I have VERY few friends in the industry, one of them is my dear friend Katie. She has spoken many times about filming this and how something clicked in everyone’s brain when they were on set those 10 days. It’s funny though because none of the adult actors truly understood their characters until they got into that family fight. She, for the first time, became Theo and was defending her actions and character. That argument between Steve and his Dad, then Shirl and Steve, then Theo and Shirl, then everyone- they sat at a table read and Mike told them things that needed to be said, emotions that needed to be expressed, and then set limits on how far they could go and where it needed to end. They met up on their own during the 9 weeks, all of them, and they fought. They came up with different versions and ideas. They then made some decisions with Mike, and funny enough a lot of it came to them as they were acting. The first time the camera came around 10 minutes into the shot and Kevin said “Who’s the Bent Neck Lady?”, not only did some of the cast break, but Mike himself broke out laughing. They worked that into the script. My message to Blake, Again- I know you hate this show. I hated this show and one of my very good friends is in it. I will not call you a baby or a bitch for being afraid or covering your eyes though, because at the end of the finale I was crying my eyes out. Bro. Do you know the last show that made me cry? There wasn’t one. Movie? Marley and Me- But that’s a cheap shot at my heart. I’m just saying this man, yes there are some jump scares left- one that almost made me stop watching. I know you can’t, but give this show a fair shot.

glad you watched the making of! this is one of my fave episodes of ANY show, it’s so good! i think in regards to you guys not liking shirley and steve it can be difficult to see positive in them at this point. they’re both hard headed and have little patience and think they’re right, but it’s also important to look at the context of what we’ve seen so far, they both had to take charge in a family where both the parents basically didn’t exist anymore and they had to take charge of the responsibility and the financial burden of luke and his rehab. i think they’re both such great characters that sometimes get overlooked but when you dig deep they’re flawed adults doing their best in the situation they were put in and with the trauma they’ve carried for years

The show excelled in the perfect casting of all the actors, from the children to their adult counterparts. However, what stood out even more was casting two established actors to portray the dad: Henry Thomas as the young Hugh and Timothy Hutton as the older version. They flawlessly embodied the same character with identical nuances, almost as if they were the same actor. Kudos to the casting director for this brilliant choice.

Shirley has an unlikeable personality because she has this "holier than thou" thing going on, but she's a good person overall - even while running her business, she's compassionate to her own detriment and undercharges her clients, she paid for Luke's treatment, refused to take Steve's money because she felt it was wrong (the manner in which she rejected the money was shitty, but not the act itself), allows Theo to basically freeload and live in her guest house... Really, if not for her personality, she would have been a very likeable person. My favorite is probably Luke, then Nell, then Theo, then Steve, then Shirley, but even though Shirley is last, it's only because the rest of them are such good characters, it's not because I dislike Shirley. (This is not counting parents, of course).

Think back… when Luke and Nell were small and they put three buttons in the speakeasy, but only two came through? Theo comes in and the twins ask her what it is. She said, umm, it’s like a telephone for inside the house. Theo, just out of nowhere, touched the pillow on the bed and she said, “This was a sick bed,” and let the thought pass. The night of this storm you saw an old lady sitting on the bed, right before you see the little boy in the wheelchair. That’s what Theo had picked up on as a little girl. She felt that old lady dying in that bed. Why are you having to protect Igli? (Did you really think we would let that pass? 😊) Oh, and Stephanie said that after this series y’all have to watch “Fall of the House of Usher!” Thanks, Steph!!!💕😁💕

Igli just might shed a few tears by the end of the show. This is the 2nd ep. that’s got him in a chokehold. 😢

There are some great videos on here that show and point out where all the ghosts/people/whatever are. You should check some of them out when this series is over. Your mind will be blown with how many you actually missed.

Blake is SO brave. As someone who doesn't watch or play scary things and have only seen this show through video essays and reaction videos, I am so impressed by Blake pushing through and watching with everyone. I'd have thrown in the towel at the first episode.

These reactions have been amazing! I highly recommend Mike Flanagan’s masterpiece, Midnight Mass.

Midnight Mass has to be the next reaction. Also created by Mike Flanagan. It’s the same style of show. A scary drama. And is a great criticism of fanatic behavior. Specifically religious fanaticism.

This episode reminds me of a similarly shot scene in True Detective season one, and you guys should definitely watch that show too. It is trippy and surrealist, kind of like Hill House. Blake will not like it though 😂
