My main problems with the game -Nemesis is not Nemesis. He goes down way too easily early on, and his mutations share almost nothing in common with those in the original game, neither visually or functionally. He is effectively a completely different BOW. -The city section is WAY too small. I was expecting the remake to expand upon it, but it ended up being about half the size of the originals city section. This is a disappointment not just because I was looking forward to exploring a nice big chunk of Raccoon City, but because it ends up restricting Nemesis as a result. The city section is so small, and Nemesis can't really be the stalker he's supposed to be as a result, and is instead limited to mostly scripted set encounters. -Cut areas like the Clock Tower and Park -Extremely linear and scripted -Almost completely devoid of puzzles -No bonus modes

Your third point hits it right on the head. By the time you turn on the power at the power station, you're already done with RC, so Nemesis doesn't have any time to ambush you. Also in regards to your first point do you think it would have been better if Nemesis gradually turned into his more feral form throughout the game instead of it happening immediately? Like say you have a proper boss battle with his rocket launcher form, you destroy the launcher which simultaneously destroys the straps on his arm causing it to mutate into a claw of sorts. Then after another fight with him more of his clothing gets damaged causing his other arm to turn and his body to start going out of proportion. Also, whenever he says "S.T.A.R.S." at this point it becomes more monstrous and slurred, almost unintelligible. That way by the time he walks out of the sewers aflame and tumbles into the river, he's practically on the verge of turning into his dog-like feral form. So, what are your thoughts on my ideas? Would that have made Nemesis better in your book?

Nemisis in human form is scary. The big bad beast that shows up in the second half is meh. More random encounters less cut content and an additional boss fight against a humanoid nemisis would have given me satisfaction. The boss fight with the flamethrower was great. The most obvious problem with the remake (IMO) is how much of the original material was streamlined or just outright removed for the sake of making the game feel more fast paced and action oriented which in turn makes it feel quite reductive and linear. Yes, the original RE3 was the most action oriented entry in the series at the time (as was to be expected for the grand ending to the trilogy) -- but it still featured quite a bit of exploration, backtracking, and the live selection choice system. Capcom should've focused more on these three elements that made the original title so unique rather than the action, and in fact -- I feel like they did (originally) because there's a lot of unused content the player can't even interact with in the remake like Raccoon City itself, for example. It's almost as if they were trying to develop this gorgeous open world environment with Nemesis chasing the player at random Mr.X style, but then they scrapped it all and reduced everything to overly scripted segments. Obviously, the entire Clock Tower part is missing, the Raccoon City Park (which could've been extended and turned into this beautiful labyrinthine map with zombies and hunters coming out of the shadows) is essentially gone, and the Grave Digger subplot got cut, too. The remake could've been the best title in the series by far IF Capcom concentrated more on extending the original experience, rather than simplifying it. It shows potential, but in the end it really does feel unfinished and/or more like RE2 Remake DLC.
@queenjewel14074 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. But I have to mention the game co-released with re3 remake: resident evil revelations. I feel like this game is why so many things were scrapped or cut or streamlined in re3's remake. It's essiantly a pvp, 4v1, online oriented game. I'm am pretty sure that it was based off of one of re6's extra game mode that does the same thing. I've heard that the two games had different development teams working side by side, but I don't know if it's true, and even if it was, I'm sure revelations was finished before re3. That might have but a time restraint on the re3 remake since marketers know well enough that people aren't going to try revelations without it being bundled with a main series game. Capcom should've just put revelations aside for a later date as an add on mode for re3 remake and instead put more effort into the main game.

Even if I approach it as a sequel to RE2R, the game still feels lazy and rushed. More bombastic opening sequence to reflect the protagonist's combat abilities? They just turned it into a glorified cutscene, something RE2R didn't do except for the alligator fight. The entire uptown section is now streamlined through boring "press forward to win" with two zombies in the parking lot being the only threats on your first playthrough. The developers didn't think that the original was setting up the atmosphere of isolation. You were wandering around the city alone. When you met Brad, you felt relieved because it is your old partner, and at the same time you still didn't feel safe because one, he is a coward, and two, he mentions that something hunts the STARS members. Then he gets brutally killed by Nemesis in front of you, and you are not only alone again, but also now being pursued by this monstrosity that is programmed to kill YOU. That is what the entire uptown area is designed for, narratively-wise, in the original. In the remake though, it is a bunch if set pieces and explosions. On top of that, Nemesis is a dumbass who cannot kill Jill in cutscenes, and later can be dropped with 1 grenade. My opinion about remakes is that cutting or simplifying parts of the original is the last thing developers should do. They could have incorporated the clock tower, the park, the dead factory into the remake, but didn't bother to do so. And I hear about people saying that it's a reimagining, not a remake. I think it's just an excuse to justify cut content. Every remake that alters the original story and gameplay is, by default, a reimagining of the original. Resident Evil 2002 is a reimagining of Resident Evil 1996 that kept all of the old content and added new, such as new enemies, areas, and also expanded the lore. RER2 is a reimagining of RE2 that cut some of the original content, but added a few new things, expanded upon old areas and greatly improved the old mechanics. RE3R is a reimagining of RE3 that cuts half of the original game without adding anything new, and downgrading the mechanics, graphics and animations from RE2 while adding boring and uninspired qte sequences and scripted set pieces. It is a very lazy game, and 6/10 max. The fact that it's selling well makes me doubt the future qualities of the Capcom remakes. Does not mean I don't like your analysis though, it's great as always)

I think it really shows just how well they reimagined our favorite characters, and made side characters realistic and likeable in a modern day approach. Characters that had shorter screen time than the time I needed to type this out were fleshed out beyond their original scope. It's really how the majority felt when the original RE3 came out. Nowadays, there is this huge sentiment among RE fans that RE3 is one of the greatest in the series, and it's always been their personal favorite, and blah blah blah. Seems strange to me, because back in 1999 *everyone* felt disappointed by RE3. It was never the legendary masterpiece that fans today are trying to claim that it was. Back in 1999, the game dropped. RE fans bought it and played it. We didn't hate it, but we weren't impressed either. We beat it, shrugged and said "Okay, cool", and then moved on to other games - many fans never caring to replay the game over and over, as we did with other RE titles. It's like modern fans are trying to retroactively give the original RE3 this 'legendary' status, when in reality it was looked at like "Yeah okay, whatever" by the RE fandom back in 1999. Nothing wrong with trying to boost the game's prominence of course. As I said, it was never a *bad* game. It just didn't impress us when compared to RE 2.

Disclosure: I haven't bought or played RE3Make (and I'm glad that's what we're calling them) but the positioning of it as 'RE2Make 2' as part of why you felt somewhat deflated really resonates with me, and I wonder if that, along with the relatively short 14 month gap between 2 and 3, reflects on Capcom in ways that have left people feeling cold. Capcom have had this huge PR / trust resurgence in recent years with revisiting old IP in new, interesting ways. Resi 7, RE2Make,. MonHun World and DMC5 feel like they were churning out long-gestated, thoughtful games with flying colours one right after the other, following 5 years of their propensity for re-releases sort of 'bringing down the brand'. 'The king is back' really felt like an atmosphere throughout Capcom discourse ever since RE7. But to follow that string of successes with 'a game that very much just builds on RE2Make, feeling like DLC, practically a yearly release like how other AAA publishers like Activision and Ubisoft release their tentpole IPs', I wonder if that's why some people feel cold on it. Hell, I am. My initial feeling was 'no, no, that's too soon, I'm not enough of a superfan to want to jump on board yet' and I still feel that way. And, let's be frank, I'm typing this knowing that Dragon's Dogma is going to get its fifth or so port to PS5 (because Capcom won't let you forget it exists almost as much as Resi 4) in a year or so, and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is most definitely slated for a next-gen incentive. I can't help but feel like 'here, have another REmake after 14 months' comes across as a portent of Capcom potentially slipping back into their 'release all the games, all the time' ways. It's less letting people breathe, and more shoving oxygen down the throat.

After playing Dead Space games again before RE3R, I feel like RE3R should be like Dead Space 2 instead of Dead Space 3. Dead Space 2 actually elevated everything that's amazing from Dead Space & very much more "bombastic" too. But that does not mean the horror take a notch down. In fact it was much more disturbing imo. You actually also visited some levels from Dead Space too, but despite that, the levels changed massively, especially when it comes to environmental lighting & some other hard objects replacements. Nemesis should have 2 modes that would trigger on each levels, scripted & randomizer/RNGs. branching levels should also really be a thing, basically more evolve version of "live selection." Also bring back ink ribbon for hardcore mode. Normal & higher difficulty shouldn't have autosave checkpoint feature. So many checkpoints in this game because of the scripted scenes. Some people say the dodge system made the game way too easy, while I somewhat half agree with it, I think it's a nice addition for the game. Although personally it should not have slow mo & the dodge move actually more precise with proper hitbox (RERev2 dodge system actually better imo). non zombie type enemies should have a more unique moveset, especially the hunters. CAPCOM should have include the missing levels, enemies, & bosses from OG game, while expand upon it. REsistance should have never existed as the budget should be fully used for the story campaign & Mercenary mode. ALSO, instead of REsistance, an evolved version of mercenaries more with co-op & map editor would a much more superior version.

So sad that Capcom always outsources for no reason even after having previous successes. They're prob my 2nd favourite company in regards to franchise lineup, but they really are hit and miss. I may get this once it drops to 20 bucks.

Almost all the puzzles, nemesis, some enemies and items are randomized. You get something different based on your choices or playthrough. This makes the game fresh everytime and catch you off guard. That's why RE3 is still my favorite in the series, and for many others too.

I think a huge problem is how linear it is. Lots of the areas are one and done or if not you're encouraged to run through them in later parts. You don't feel like you're getting to know the world as in REmake2 or really exploring. REmake3 just kinda "happens" and then it's over.

Resi 1 Remake felt like a genuine expansion of what that original game set out to do, which I feel is partly due to Shinji Mikami directing both. They end up having a similar personality. Resi 2 Remake was great, but due to the time that had passed, audience expectations and different people behind the wheel as it were, it doesn't have the same personality and lost a little of the charm. However, it still felt like Resi 2 in structure. Resi 3 Remake has lost almost everything of its source material. It's weird how, as graphics and technology gets better and can offer more real time rendered detail, we can't have the same sense of scale we did with a twenty one year old game that used fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds. Nothing awful, but it's time we start looking to the future. No Code Veronica or Resi 4 remake please. Bring on 8!

Resident evil outbreak is a great game, one of my favorite resident evil games in PS2 but I think for me, it doesn't need a remake. The graphics is good as RE 4 (almost) and the fixed camera angles are really great to give you anxiety. If they will remaster it, I think it would be better they would make it a First person perspective game. Because it will capture more anxiety and terror than turn it into a 3rd person perspective. Especially in the abandoned hospital in the middle of knowhere, the underground train station, the zoo, and the racoons police department before the zombies completely overrun it (I've never played the outbreak file 1, only the file 2). It would be nice to see explorong the racoon police department in first person perspective and maybe interact with other police officers on that day. Maybe for me, it would be better if they will remake the outbreak file 1 and 2, the single player campaigns, you would be alone wandering and exploring each map so it will be more challenging and terrifying because in the original outbreak (at least in file 2) you choose a character to play as and choose 2 other characters to play with, so you're not completely alone and it makes you feel like you're kinda safe. That's why when I unlocked the solo mode, I always play that mode in each every map and try my best to survive and finish the map as quickly as I can without anyone to assist me. And it would be cool if they will only allow it the multiple players mode in co-ops and the maximum would be 3, just like the original or maybe turn it into 4. And maybe they will add a dlc map. Maybe they will add like the map in Veronica and we will play as one of the soldiers of the umbrella Corp and is a close friend to Kevin's father (the guy who was the partner of Claire at that time, correct me if I'm wrong) and we get to see how the place falls apart and how his father turned into a zombie, I think that would be a great dlc.

One of the things I dislike was the Nemesis. There was no surprise. He became too scripted. And while the original had that, Nemesis always seemed to blindside you. Not now. Overall, there's a lot to nitpick. But it just doesn't feel as fun as the original? I like watching RE3 speedruns. But on the remake... I don't seem to care enough. Also, Nikolai became a joke. An actual lesser villain. The original had wit, and his canon ending got changed. He was the only villain to survive and get away. Also, Ps1 Nemesis liked his Shakesperean quotes and always used doors. He was a true gentleman.
@AndrewSF88984 жыл бұрын
Also, oddly enough, Nikolai in the OG was willing to cooperate. He was a cold, calculating bastard, but he was calculating. As someone who wasn’t alive when the originals came out, I did love the remakes so much and they were what got me into the resident evil series. But I will say, that I loves re3 more. It was much more appealing and I loved that it gave you enough amp, but not more than you needed, like re2 did. I loved that although it was a big map there weren’t zombies all over the place like re2. It made no sense why there were so many normal zombies in the sewers. The sewers in general were pretty frustrating, and whenever I played through it I would always go get the plugs and come right back. I hated the sewers and I know I’m not the only one. When Jill went to the sewers, I hated the gammas. There were too many of them and there was barley any room to get by them, because of how small the sewers were. But I was happy in the end because you weren’t there for long. The boss fights in re2 were frustrating. The Birkin boss fight with the Crain was annoying, because of how little space there was to work with. Same with the boss fight in the lab. Re3 the second boss fight was amazing. I loved how everything looked, and how nemesis would run around, and how he attacked. If re2 had a dodge mechanic like re3, I would have enjoyed the much more. But it didn’t. And there were so many zombie that it was just annoying and frustrating. It was much more of a happy memory than the re2 boss fights. I loved Jill and Carlos new looks so much and how their characters interacted together. Another thing is in re2, in the lab, you have to get the purple wristband to get the virus. But I always questioned why neither one of them just punched through the glass or something. They wouldn’t have to waste about 20 minutes or so going through the lab to get the serum to get the man to fall. Stuff like that was really annoying in re2. Although, re3 had the same problems, I think re3 did a better job. Re2 made it seem like, oh... now we go to the sewers, now the lab, now the boss fight. It was repetitive and kinda boring after awhile. ALSO, I think re3 did a better job with the puzzles. Now stay with me. As someone who isn’t the brightest tool in the shed, re2 was a nightmare my first run. I played it with my dad, and we ended up using an online guide the whole game because I was always confused on where to go and what to do. I never felt that way with re3 and that is a huge reason why I favor re3 over re2. Looking back, I just overall enjoyed re3 more then re2 and think re3 did a better job. I wish the game was MUCH longer, mainly because I loved it so much. If you acctually read all this thank you for taking the time to read my rant lol😊

I felt the same way and I actually grew up with both the originals but RE3 was my first RE game and I never saw the appeal of 2 over 3 even back in the day. 2 just seemed like a repeat of 1 with more zombies and more ammo. 3 was more unique. It featured a monster that followed you around and hunted you, the game felt faster paced, you got some perspective from mercenaries technically from Umbrella's side and find out that not everyone hired by Umbrella is bad. Anyway, good someone here isn't blinded by nostalgia and went in deciding for themselves which was more enjoyable, and I'm glad you chose 3.

My issue, is that I don't see the game as "excellently-crafted" at all. Yes, they could have made it cheaper and made it DLC, but that wouldn't have fixed most of the issues. -Nemesis isn't scary, just frustrating. He is very difficult to get away from, and does a lot of damage when he hits you. Not only that, but it's possible for him to hit you a second time while you are stuck in the staggering or getting up animations, instantly killing you. Dealing with him became more about reloading to avoid damage than trying to be careful. -The story isn't handled well. Jill is supposed to have PTSD, but the game doesn't convey that beyond two dream sequences. They keep pushing the whole thing with her being too soft-hearted and unable to shoot when it counts, yet NEVER actually show that, outside of that one dream with Carlos. Kendo and Marvin are just cameos. The civilians are just there to die. Nicholai wants to destroy Umbrella...which he shows by killing Bard and destroying the vaccine, both of which would have decimated Umbrella otherwise. -Even design-wise, there are weird issues. Framerate lags with distant zombies. That house behind Kendo's place that HAS NO BATHROOM. Misleading QTE prompts. Boss battles with tricks you're unlikely to figure out or could be unprepared for.

The remake just has no moments to build up tension. Some parts, like the sewer and the hospital feels like a chore instead of a terror adventure. The story is very linear, rushed, and it feels like it carries you, rather than the opposite. In RE 1 and 2, you have to explore, you have to think, and then stay determined to carry on despite the fear of encountering something new and dangerous. RE3 remake feels like a rush all the time, everything is scripted, almost no exploration and puzzles, no strategic decision, no (good) backtracking and no place to play with the mechanics like in RE2 with MrX. My expectations for RE3Make was everything they did right in RE2Make but better and bigger. I was looking forward to being chased by the Nemesis constantly throughout the game and have you plan your progress accordingly. I also would have wanted more areas to explore as well as puzzles. A big thing that I really enjoy about Resident Evil is the atmosphere as you slowly and carefully make your way around the environment, anticipating something to attack you at any moment, but nothing happens. These low tension moments helps to build suspense and catch you off guard when something does happen. And that is a shame because the sound and music in this game is excellent, especially wearing headphones. The streets after you fight flamethrower Nemesis is wonderful as you spot shambling zombies in the distance, the burning building you just left and you recognize the familiar exterior of the police station. It's just that these moments are too few and far between in my opinion. My favorite level however is the hospital where you play as both Jill and Carlos. It has more paths to take and it encourages and allows you to explore its hallways and offices, as well as mixing things up with the Hunter enemies. I prefer those moments compared to when you encounter the Nemesis. It seems like the restricted level design worked against implementing Nemesis like they did with the Tyrant in RE2Make, just a theory. This game would have benefited greatly from more "time to breathe" as well. On a final note I like the new take on Jill but I wish we had been able to spend more time getting to know her, perhaps expand upon her experience being one of the few survivors of the Mansion Incident. It says in a note in her apartment that she has trouble sleeping for example which is also evidenced by the pills on her nightstand. I would also have liked to see how she reacts to the destruction and terrible loss of life on display as we travel throughout Raccon City. It would have allowed new and returning players more time to connect with her as a character. The voice actress for Jill did a good job though and I can only hope she'll be able to reprise the role someday. RE3 is an enjoyable enough ride, but it could have been so much more. Thanks for the video!

I enjoyed it keeping the pace up and featuring more open environments, REmake 2 could seem to drag a bit throughout the giant maze of tight BOW congested corridors of the police station, which is why I suspect a lot of people feel this game runs shorter, with there being far less backtracking overall. I would have liked if it kept the branching paths, but after seeing that Capcom couldn’t be bothered recreating the unique A & B scenarios with a shared item pool, I didn’t have my hopes up. My introduction to the series and survival horror games in general was in fact RE3. I remember that after I fell in love with the genre I went to the mall and got Dino Crisis 2 and Parasite Eve 2; and after falling in love with each series receptively, I went and played the first entry of each (and I keep playing all 3 series to this day from time to time). Sadly, I never got to play the original RE2, because both discs would always crash at the same point for me (I never found out if it was my PSX that was faulty or all the 5 or 6 copies of the game that I got). In any case, it is quite disappointing to find out that the RE3 remake I have been waiting for so long is more accurately described as a RE2 Remake extended experience rather than being able to stand on it's own with pride like the original did (regardless of the intention of the devs at the time). I have watched almost 10 or so reviews of the game and most of them describe it as having good gameplay with a bit of original content, but very short and shallow experience (compared to the OG). If I ever play it, I will have to think of if as a completely different beast if I plan to enjoy it, given that I know the original so much that if I start to compare every little thing I will get very salty in the process... not to mention I should also play RE2remake beforehand.

The more I play this game the more I think of it less as it's own game and more like the Not a Hero/End of Zoe of RE2. All of the game's decisions make sense in that context. The cutting of areas, the emphasis on spectacle, the omission of puzzles, the breakneck pace and linearity, the fact that RE2 has a menu dedicated to its purchase.

I platinumed it on PS4 in roughly 10.5 hours. - Assisted in 5.5 hours collecting everything. - 2 hours of point grinding - 1 Hour Hardcore - 1 Hour Nightmare - 1 Hour Inferno However, this was done with bought items, If you played without them it could be a frustrating / challenging ~20 hour game with 4 playthroughs.

I very much agree with you and your conflicted feelings about 3make. What it boils down to for me is I just wanted MORE from the game. I really liked what it was but the city should have been bigger, nemesis should have chased you more, and it should have included more of the original locations and plot points of the original game. It wasn’t too short but it was short enough that I wasn’t really satisfied when it was over. Maybe that’s what they wanted and wanted people wanting more than feeling like it was too much, but I was disappointed and not because the game wasn’t good, I was disappointed that it WAS good and I didn’t get to spend enough time in the nearly destroyed raccoon city, didn’t get to see the clock tower, etc.

re3make would have been fine if it came out as a 30 dollar DLC for RE2. Too much cut content tbh. There's stuff I like in it, particularly the cinematic feel and Carlos's glow up. And while some of the scripted sequences with Nemesis are cool, most of them work against establishing how menacing Nemesis really is. Giving him far too many opportunities to one shot and kill Jill, but we can't just have that so we have him do the tired ole "monster throws main char around once he grabs him because plot armor"
@raulrojas92534 жыл бұрын
nemesis should have drop weapons and GOT DOWN until his next chase. Thats why it worked on the original you had the option to run from him and deal with the anxiety or MAN up and drop all your ammo on him for a lot of breathing space and a REWARD, instead you throw a grenade he goes down for 30 second or a minute, he drops a loot box and the loot is decent the 1st and 2nd time but then all he drop is ammo, way less ammo that you wasted or loot that can compete with a grenade.

Capcom is an established company with lots of experience and reputation, this game is somewhat of a long awaited title, and the money has to be divided into more people since there were more people involved in development and distribution, so that's why it's $60... for now Hellblade is great but Ninja Theory isn't Capcom and while we are just now about to get Hellblade 2, RE has been around for over 20 years, that's why new IP's are risky and instead we always get sequels of everything

My biggest gripe with the game is that it needed more of what is already available. I mean like Racoon city for example. The beginning section where you explore Racoon city and nemesis stalks you is soo good but the problem is that it ends way too fast where you just started to enjoy it. A lot of people complain about the length but the problem is because of its linearity. That's what makes the game feel short. It's because the majority of the game you're running a straight line no time to pause, think and explore. This game has excellent qualities in it and does some things even better than RE2 remake eg. (Characters, story, boss battles, soundtrack, dodging feels great). Problem is that it lacks in its core RE gameplay. It's very linear, no exploration, no puzzles and no open maps. That's what makes RE2 remake better imo. RE3 remake is a good game but the sad part is that it could have easily been amazing and potentially the best RE game if they just expanded on what is already in the game.

I'm a couple of years late, but here we go. I'm a big fan of the original RE games, RE3 in particular used to be my absolute favorite. RE1make has since sort of taken that spot as I've replayed it a lot more in recent years, but let's just say that, for time, I loved RE3 so much that I had it all memorized and mapped out in my head and did a speedrun in my time (just not in a competitive sense). I loved RE2make, and I loved RE3make nearly as much. That's the bottomline here, as well as the feeling that RE fans and critics alike have judged RE3make very, very unfairly through those lenses you mentioned -- as an OG RE fan, as a fan of the original characters, as a fan of the original game, etc. -- and have mostly forgotten, or chosen to, ignore the things that were lovingly recreated and improved upon. The first point of contention is Jill's characterization and by extension, the story as a whole. Let's make one thing perfectly clear; the writing in Resident Evil games used to be complete garbage for like 30 years. It wasn't until RE2make that it was suddenly really good. RE3make continues that trend very well. I won't defend the way they made Jill a more cliché hyperactive Hollywood action movie protagonist from a bygone era, but I will defend making the character far more rounded and interesting than the original. Jill has always been my favorite character, but as I've grown up, I also realized at some point that I really had no reason to actually like her character more than any other in the first three games, because the protagonists are so bland and void of any real personality. Seriously, you could've swapped Jill with Claire or even Leon or Chris and the story would've been virtually the same. This is not the case with the remakes of 2 and 3. The protagonists are so much more defined, they're more charismatic and have a lot more going on. If you think it's annoying or direspectful of the original game that Jill is a -- and I have seen this in a comment before -- "stereotypical stronk wahmens" in the remake, you're wrong. She as a right to be pissed off and take things into her own hands because this is her responsibility as a S.T.A.R.S. member and as Spencer Mansion survivor and as one of the few survivors of her own unit. The city is overrun with zombies, and now with another Tyrant, in small part because she failed to warn the powers that be that this was going to happen. Action movie protagonist "stronk wahmen" or not, her personality is right where it should be. Another thing is the omission of the "most iconic" parts of the original game. Every fucking one complains about how criminal it is that they took out the Clock Tower. That's true, but they also extended the Hospital section of the game tremendously, and actually made playing as Carlos quite meaningful and long-lasting, whereas in the original he probably took up about 15 minutes of gameplay at the most. And oh yeah, Carlos is an actual character this time around, an actual personality to have feels about, imagine that. The only thing about him for the original is his stupid "the ladies go crazy with my accent" which was so stupid that they didn't even bother giving him an accent this time around. Point of contention here, they could've gone the extra mile to hire a legit Brazilian actor with an accent this time, but considering how stupid the fans are and the things they complained about the remake, it's no surprise they didn't bother. At any case, I actually liked him, even his cringey attempts at flirting with Jill. While they didn't hit it off, there was a playful chemistry that I enjoyed, but it might've come off terrible if the performances hadn't been perfect. Anyway, I think people would've complained no matter what. I think a lot of people expected a 1:1 remake where every single part of the original was brought back, but that was never the intent of the developers, as is evident with RE2make (which people also complained about not having everything they wanted). Personally I wasn't disappointed by anything, since everything they DID do with both remakes is excellent. I don't agree with every single artistic choice they made, but that's fine, I didn't think the original game was flawless anyway. tldr: Remakes are great, og fans are stupid and entitled babies.

I love the character development with the characters in the game, something about it just felt more organic than RE2make. Even the music was better too, with songs looping instead of playing once then going dead silent. The opening hour of the game builds up what nemesis will become, but the way he was introduced within the first 5 minutes without acknowledging the build up for him makes the encounter underwhelming. But I don’t consider this new series as a “Remake” and more as a “Reimagining” since they are not really taking the OG material source and expanding on it, which is what most people expected.

While i can see it's most likely closer to what the original product was supposed to be. By being a more action focused game it lost a lot of what i enjoyed about RE3 Nemesis. The howling wind of Raccoon city streets, the howls of the dead. The occasional zombie bursting out of a car, and zombie swarms bursting out of doors. It felt far more survival horror. This vision which may be the intended original. Mirrors the movies, in particular with second film with similar characters and scenes. And the explosions?! Why, who hired the Michael Bay fan who put so many in RE6. It gives me fear that when they remake RE4 they'll remove a lot of the subtle horror. The regenerators might not shamble towards you making their signature breathing sounds, which the though of still gives me chills. They'll sprint at you while growling.

Amazing Video and i agree with everything you said in my opinion who plays and finish almost RE series, the 3rd entry of the remastered series feels more like polished RE Operation Racoon City with the heavy action and the more "handhold-ish" gameplay to fit the story than the 2nd entry, which i believe causing the feeling of shorter gameplay that a lot of people complained about compared to the previous remastered entries damn now i want to play RE ORC again.

@RagnarRox Since you did ask in your video for takes like mine... RE3make was actually the first Resident Evil game that I really played. I never got into the Playstation titles despite loving Dino Crisis and being a fan of survival horror titles in general. I attempted the original RE3's demo and bounced off it hard (game felt dismal and depressing), which was the last time I played an RE game before this. RE3make looked like it had a lot more of that frenetic action energy that made me love Dino Crisis back in the day, which is why I bought it. Being a general nerd (and reader of the old RE novels), I was familiar with Jill and the events that lead to Raccoon City's destruction. But you're still right that it felt like getting thrown quickly into the action at the start of RE3make. This didn't really deter me at all, and I took to the mechanics very naturally. However, prior to this? I had just 100%-ed Daymare: 1998, which had some similar elements. Plus I'm no stranger to survival horror in general. It's possible that I already learned all the skills from other titles outside of RE. What I did think was strange is how lukewarm this game is received, while RE2 is beloved far more. This lead me to have very high expectations when I went on to play RE2 remake... expectations which fell flat. I found RE2 frustrating after playing RE3. Where RE3's Nemesis encounters were scripted boss fights, or brief chases that provided potential reward items, Mr. X's perpetual stalking felt tedious rather than exciting. I'll admit that Nemesis was never "scary" in that creeping dread vibe, but every encounter with him did give me the feel of being skill-checked (which I enjoyed). Mr. X's implementation isn't really comparable to that, and he serves a very different role in RE2. Another thing? The implementation of defensive weapons in RE3 was very different, and my reflexive use of them in RE2 really screwed up my progress at times. Plus, the NG+ mechanics of RE3 felt way more rewarding than RE2's unlocks. As a result, I've 100%'ed RE3 and had a great time doing it whereas I haven't even done Claire's story in RE2. Those comparisons aside, RE2's underground Umbrella facility was more interesting and memorable than the one in RE3.
@oliversedgwick72364 жыл бұрын
I think the main issue was that the way Nemesis & Mr X worked were the wrong way around. He should have been a threat constantly. Not just there for a 2 minute chase and then 0 possibility of him showing up unexpectedly. Also - was that a Plumbella Nicki Minaj edit?

I reviewed RE3R after purchasing it and I played this before RE2R. I was aware of the classic games though and genuinely liked classic RE1 and RE3 but didnt like classic RE2. Here's my opinion: I liked how strong the game started. It did feel like being thrown into a city undoing the apocalypse while subjecting Jill to be a focal character in the outbreak. The strong beginning gave immediately realization that this game isn't going to provide much breathing room for players and to be prepared when heading out of a safe area. My initial playthrough was tough yet satisfying to overcome. The biggest let down was the lack of puzzle areas when that was a founding gameplay element in the classics. I managed to complete Standard, Hardcore, and Nightmare difficulties vanilla and cheesed Inferno with the rocket launcher. Each difficulty brought new challenges in the amount of action and methodical approach to conservation vs survival. In short, I don't agree with your consumption that new players would view it negatively and I believe that majority of the negative response to RE3R lies in their lack of direct remaking of the original and instead making an action focused, nearly puzzle free version instead.

Didn't play the RE2 remake and never played the original RE3. My only experiences with the mainline RE games was via RE4-6. Overall, I liked the game. I found the characters interesting enough and the story wasn't that hard to follow. The core gameplay was fun. The early game did feel a bit frustrating to me since the roll mechanic seemed very inconsistent against regular zombies, though I did watch a guide video and it showed that the bait and backstep strategy used by RE2 players worked. I wasn't all that confused narratively but thats because I have a rough understanding of what happened in the originals. Most of the levels aside from the city felt really short and the boss fights were probably the worst part of the game. I honestly don't even think the game's clunky combat which includes its atrocious bullet spread is designed for combat in battles that require precision-ish shooting to targetted weakspots. The limited movement and camera options makes it frustrating in one of the later boss battles that has you fighting the boss along with 2-4 zombies that exist for no other reason than simple distraction at the same time.

Speaking as a veteran of the OG Resident Evil games, the underwhelming part of Nemesis comes from the inevitable comparison to the original and a bit of mistiming on the developer's part. I have seen many documentaries about Resident Evil, and since the original RE2 was made, the developers wanted to put in an implacable stalker-like enemy but lacked the time to polish it. That's how we got Mr.X in OG RE2. He's menacing, but he poses a surprisingly low threat level. He goes down with about 5 shotgun shells. If you don't want to fight him, all you have to do is just take a hit which would at worst bring you down to Caution and then rush past him as he does a slow windup for a killing blow. Most importantly, he doesn't follow you through doors, and he disappears if you reenter the room he was in. Capcom got the chance they wanted with RE3. This time, they had the time and energy to fully develop the stalker enemy they envisioned and we got Nemesis. This monster was a beast unlike any other players had experienced up to that point. From the creepy music if he's near you to the fact that you'd have to use huge amounts of ammo to put him down (twice!) for good, the most infamous part is the fact that he can follow you through doors, something no creature in Resident Evil games so far could do. Nemesis was Capcom's Mr.X that they wanted and it blew players away. There was a palpable air of tension whenever he was around and he was around a lot. Of course, with practice players could put him down consistently or even dance around him if they wish to save the ammo/speedrun. But the implacable presence he had carved for himself in new players is significant enough for Capcom to make this a numbered sequel. Originally, Capcom intended Code Veronica to be the true sequel to RE2. But Nemesis was such a force to be reckoned with that he carved himself a place in gaming culture. Enter RE2 Remake. Yet again, the developers had time to make the implacable enemy they always wanted. It was their second chance and they did it perfectly. Mr.X had more in common with OG Nemesis then his OG RE2 counterpart. Following you through doors, never going down for good. The developers had finally fulfilled their goal at long last. And then came RE3 Remake. This Nemesis felt a little underwhelming because the developers had not much place to go beyond Remake's Mr.X. Their implacable stalker enemy had been perfected already, yet they couldn't just rip and paste in Mr.X wholesale. Nowhere else to go tension-wise, so they defaulted to action. That cut away at the terror Nemesis could inspire. I remember certain scenes being underwhelming like when Nemesis used a rocket launcher for the first time. Defaulting to a chase scene where the pursuer could catch up to you at any time weirdly took all the tension away. Less "oh shit" and more like "bullshit". In the original, when Nemesis caught you in its hands, it could randomly kill you at any time. That's why having its running pace roughly equal to Jill's was good. It meant that the player had to devote all energy to running away and deviating slightly from the escape route meant risking capture by Nemesis. In RE3 Remake, when Nemesis could outrun you, then the focus shifts from running away in terror, to dodging his strikes with precision. It is an awesome skill to master, but it cut down the time a player could fear the Nemesis, to forcing them to confront the creature quickly. Also, the lack of backtracking also cut down the opportunities Nemesis could stalk you, unlike Mr.X in RE2 remake. Finally, no voice actor so far could replicate the menace in the OG Nemesis's "STARS..." Capcom should just give up and use the OG game's voice clips.

I loved RE:3 remake (when it wasn't trying to be a setpiece action game.) The biggest issues I had with the game were specifically the second bossfight and the final bossfight. Both of those force you into specific solutions for dealing with the boss and feel clunky (ESPECIALLY the final boss on nightmare and up, I feel like they did no playtesting of that section for those difficulties.) I enjoy thoroughly everything inbetween though. I have a similar feeling about the boss fights in RE:2 remake but I feel like my frustrations with the boss fights are amplified by the short runtime of RE:3 remake.
