Hi Richard, today I watched your runthroughs for Roll for the Galaxy, Lost Cities and San Juan. Today I purchased above mentioned games. Can you please take a holiday!! Seriously though, great job with the videos. By the way, my wife and I live in Southern Spain not far from Malaga so if you and Jen are ever in the neighbourhood, given you are just across the pond, drop me a note. All the best

At 18:30, Jen should have got the extra $1 from space piracy. In Roll For The Galaxy, powers like this round UP rather than down. Although she only has one red die in her citizenry, she gets $1 for each pair - or part of a pair - of red dice. To put it another way, 1 or 2 red dice in her citizenry, Jen gets $1 at the end of the Shipping phase; 3 or 4 red dice, $2; 5 or 6 red dice, $3.

One other minor rules error: The die used to Dictate goes back in the cup, not the citizenry.

If you picked up the Produce dice and placed it as an explore, that would've allowed you to Explore, Develop and Settle?
@DodgeMRR9 жыл бұрын
9:40 Just after this point you do a reassign action... I think you're supposed to sacrifice one die to reassign another.. am I wrong here? Just checked the rule.. you need to sacrifice one and reassign another. Edit:- just checked again. Your use of dictate is wrong, Dictate IS the reassign power, not in addition to. You can only use it once. You can only reassign once per power, others come from tech and planets.
@PauloRenato239 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Dolbey at 9:40 he wasn't using dictate or reassign... he was using one die to select the action you want to take... Each player will take one die and putt it in the little strip that has all the action simbols... from all the dice you roll you'll pick one of them and put it over the symbol of the action you want to perform... that can be ANY die, it doesn't have to match the symbol and it doesn't need a dictate or reassign to be done... you just pick 1 die and if you want to do a develop you put it over the develop symbol on the little strip... this is a basic rule of RftG and Richard play it right... don't know if you play the game or not but if you do and aren't playing like this you've been playing it very very wrong!
@DodgeMRR9 жыл бұрын
think you need to watch it again..

Kenneth Dolbey Mate... this video has been out for 5 months now... it's one of the biggest releases of the year... if that was wrong wouldn't you think someone would have posted already?!?!? What you are saying is not a little math goof or something like that... it would be a major rule error and people point those up pretty quickly... This was played the right way...
@rahdo9 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Dolbey ken, if you check the rules, pg3 "Phase Selection. Each player selects a phase by taking one worker and placing it on any space on the phase strip. Only selected phases occur " the point youve mentioned with the time stamp is when i was doing phase selection. after that's over, you then have the option to go to the next step, which is reassigning :)
@gidinhotamestorvano68455 жыл бұрын
yes, Kenneth is right. You got to put back the dictate die in the cup, not in the citzenry area.

Hmmm, really like the look of Eminent Domain, not so much this. I'll check out the Extended and Final Thoughts though, see if I'm missing something. Just doesn't seem to be the most intuitive iconography and text.

19:58 Actually, the brown die can settle because there's a 1/6 chance it will roll a wild. All the dice can roll everything, due to wilds

In the very first roll, Jen was hoping that an explore action would be triggered, why wouldn't she just use her explore die to trigger the explore? Either way she gets one "worker" to use on explore and then there's no chance she doesn't have a wasted action. What am I missing? at ~14:28
@rahdo9 жыл бұрын
sugarbearsid basically, she wanted to develop even more than exploring, so she guaranteed that the development action would happen. you can only initiate one action per round

***** THANK YOU! Somehow I managed to miss this rule when we played the first time and while I loved the game I found it far too easy to do everything you wanted to do in a round. Now that you have corrected me and I've played again with the correct rules it makes so much more sense and is a much more enjoyable experience!

1:40 that green guy reminds me of Cactuar from final fantasy. This looks like a fun game to play, but that you can cheat with the dice rolls is game breaking man. At least for me it is. How much replay value has this game anyway?

What is the point in rolling the dice if you can change them to whatever you want? Seems like you get 3 actions and get to choose from 5 possible actions, the dice don't really matter. Useless mechanic here.
@rahdo8 жыл бұрын
dealing with the dice results is the entire game. you can sacrifice one die to change another to something you want, but that's it without having access to more special powers...
@DDela19618 жыл бұрын
oh, didn't noticed the dice being sacrificed, still seemed to be able to use them all, they were just changed into what you wanted. That's fine if that's what the creator was going for just seems strange to me. does make the game easier to play I suppose. More of a challenge if you had to use what you rolled. Many games out there to choose from :)
@rahdo8 жыл бұрын
well, more specifically, when you roll your dice, one of them can be considered a wild, which you use to declare what your one action will be that round. and beyond that, you can sacrifice one die to convert another die into a wild. So if you've got 5 dice in a given round, after rolling them, two can be turned into wilds if you sacrifice one, leaving 2 others that you have to deal with as best you can, and one which you threw away. Also, some of the more fancy high powered dice have wild symbols on them, and if you get lucky and roll that, that's another wild, and if not, you make the best of them you can :)

I like these videos, but the amount of times most actions get repeated (like the dictator for a day, we've now covered the fact that all the dice have changed places at least twice, and we just got done covering that the produce was turned into a develop like...three...four times? I lost track. Again, I like these videos, but I don't know that everything needs to be explained repeatedly.
@alcaron829 жыл бұрын
Then we get to the end of the dictator for a day and he turns it into an Explore action...why bother? Why not just take the produce you changed and instead of putting it on Develop, and making the existing Develop redundant, you could have left the natural Develop and put the Produce on Explore and still had a Settle. Maybe I missed something in the middle of the fifteen times we talked about how the dice moved around...wayyyy too much recapping of things that just happened and were recapped while they happened.

Yay, more of the "You can get A if you can do B, but only IF you have C with D, but if you have E, you also get one of F" that turned me off of Race For The Galaxy. Keeping straight HOW to play is not the kind of work I want to do when I play a game.

This dice assignment mechanism is one of the most wierd and untemathic thing I've ever seen. So basically, it doesn't really matter what you've rolled, it's 90+% guarantee that you'll do what you want. Not to mention how easy to cheat with them. It's just bad design for me. This game is way too far from the elegant and thematic ambience of the Race. Anyhow, thank you for the runthrough.
