When MAMAMOO performed at the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards in December, Hwasa’s performance and outfit became a hot topic. Kim Do Hoon was asked if he hadn’t know about Hwasa’s outfit beforehand. Kim Do Hoon replied, “To be honest, I was surprised when I watched the performance. I thought ‘Oh, it’s a bit short,’ but I trust the MAMAMOO members. The stylist team and the members work well together, and I think that it’s right for them to choose the outfits when they’re the people who are wearing them. It’s an outfit that they have to wear themselves on stage, so wouldn’t they care more than someone else?” The interviewer mentioned that while there were many surprised reactions, there were just as many people who liked it. Kim Do Hoon said, “If Hwasa wasn’t playing the role of singer and had just worn that because she wanted to stand out, she would have been criticized greatly. However, she’s someone who’s good at both singing and performing, so I think they looked upon it in a good light. To be honest, Hwasa is someone who used to wear net stockings when she was doing evaluations as a trainee. So that kind of side of her was natural for us. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first time MAMA invited them to perform, and shocked them. ahahaha The stylist was against with Hwasa's choice, but in the end Hwasa got her way. :D That red dress made Lee Hyori (a well-known singer / actress and "Nation's Fairy" of Korea) noticed her and gave Hwasa her black dress. The one who presented the award, the girl in white suit, Lee Da Hee, she is a big fan of Mamamoo and befriended Moonbyul. So, she's fan girling on stage. hahaha This is one of my favorite live performances in an award show.

Listen, this was thee performance that made me pay attention to Hwasa and I fell hard for her! I then ended up falling in love with all members of MAMAMOO! I’m so glad I joined the radish farm and became a MooMoo. This is the only female K-pop group who’s voices and music make me feel things deeply. Thank you for your reaction to this. This is the first MAMA appearance for Mamamoo and still very iconic, because they're that talented. They are a blessing for kpop, many experienced producers who heard them from their debut days says from the beginning that they're different and believe they're going to go a long way. The unfortunate part about MAMA 2018 is that MMM got the short end of the stick. No Selfie Cam + HAD to change in the hallway (no actual green room) + a long list of other issues.

This stage was very very iconic for Mamamoo specially for Hwasa. Such things she perform are normal for JLo or other western artist but you have to KNOW that this was in Japan with a lot of Korean Japanese, Chinese and a lot more Asian viewers!!! This stage was talked very bad bout later by K Netzies bc "they show to much skin" and some other stuff. But it drew attention internationally towards Mamamoo and thats the very good point of it ^^ I luv the performance specially with a fancam of the other ideols reaction xD

This performance was iconic but I hope you check out their 2019 MAMA performance because it was just as incredible. One thing that I love about mamamoo is that you will always get live vocals regardless of how big the stage is or how much choreography they’re doing. Hye Jin's outfit was a combination tribute to Beyonce [her Idol] & (possibly) CL [2NE1] with the Hat Toss being a tribute/homage to Minzy [2NE1] whom had done that for a few performances. A lot of people got a CL/2NE1 vibes from both Hye Jin's solo performance as well as the group's performance, especially coming up from below the stage [reminiscent of 2NE1's MAMA 2015 surprise performance, aka the last GREAT performance from 2NE1 before the dark days of 2016]

The artist that was performing with Byul for her Selfish single was Chaewon (IZ*ONE). Seulgi (& Red Velvet) wasn't there as her company (SM Entertainment) was boycotting that years MAMA [along with YGE]. Chaewon was recommended to Byul and it all sort of fell into place, & coincidentally, Yuri is a massive fan of Whee In as she was the one that was literally fangirlling during Whee In's performance]
