Wow, just found this. Thank you soo much, Splattercat, for trying my game. It really is an honor for me. Can't wait to watch the video now and see if you enjoyed it. A few notes: Spike traps do work, but only if you kick stunned opponents into them (instantly kills). They do not deal damage if you just push them into. You had a hard time with stamina, because stamina potions are important to use in this game and you didn't very often. Thanks for trying out the game again. Its an Early Access demo after all, so of course there is work to do. I am happy to hear you generally enjoyed the game.

I was in Long Island last weekend and walked by a place called Ruby Soho's. That song was stuck in my head all week. It was driving me nuts even though I love the first two Rancid albums. Yesterday, blissfully, I woke up with the song out of my brain. It was wonderful. The sun seemed brighter. The birds sweeter sounding. The sky bluer. Today.... today Splat was like, "WELCOME BACK TO HELL, BRO!" :)

Absolutely love the aesthetics and the intent. The rooms desperately need more things to loot, even if you just gave things like more potions that are less effective, or food items, or sellable junk to collect (the herbalist wants mushrooms, pick a whole bunch). Don't know if any of the dozens of arrows in the environment were lootable, that could be a thing. Spikes seemed to barely do anything other than the one time. I absolutely cannot stand when enemies drop weapons you can't pick up. Just make them garbage stats, or something, but you could at least maybe pick them up to sell. Love the lockpicking system, though, and the equipment you do get seems varied and neat. The environments are varied and interesting. Definitely going to keep an eye on it.

Hey I am the developer. Thanks for the feedback. It is intentional design, that you can't pick up dropped weapons, because I don't the player to have too many useless items in his inventory. I also find it stupid when you carry like 236 iron sword or something ^^. Loot, as everything else, is fully procedural. The higher the dungeon level the more loot, but I agree that there are a little to many items, which you would expect to pick up, but you can't. I am sure during Early Access I am going make changes on the looting system.

I guess for me one of the parts of dungeon delving games that I enjoy is not only finding neat things I want to keep, or quest items, but also doing "dungeon salvage" by collecting various semi-valuable junk I can sell for cash back in town, including discarded weapons. Perhaps a compromise might be giving us at least the possibility of picking more things up, but making weight a concern. Then you could pick and choose what "junk" you want to carry, but at least there's a logical consistency of being able to. That said, if you're just wanting to skip all that and keep things simple, I can understand that. The game still looks great, and I absolutely wishlisted it to see where it goes. 😀 I wish you luck with it!

@@PhodexGames You can make the enemies weapons be most of the time bad quality and worth not that much so maybe people won't really think about picking them up - like in many old RPGs picking weak weapons at start was common just to get a few pieces of gold but as the player become more wealthy carrying all the items that were worth 1 gold was pointless. I play Baldur's Gate EE now and at start I did pick all the daggers, helmets, spears etc. each worth 1 gold just to sell them but now when I have a good amount of gold it is pointless to loot everything and carry all the loot back to towns to sell them just to get that 20-30 gold. But still it is a possibility that some loot goblins can do just that and can loot anything and sell it - in Skyrim you are also able to pick many things up but that does not mean you should - there is no point in picking up brooms and pots and weak weapons even at start just to sell them for 1-5 gold because of carry weight. You could even add a spell in one of the starting classes that would let loot goblins transmute the enemies useless weapons into 1 gold coin or something like that. Also some enemies/bosses should have some great weapons/armors/trinkets etc. so killing them and looting them would feel rewarding and like an upgrade to your hero or at least a good amount of gold for selling it that will let you buy something you need. I think the metal/copper/silver/gold bars should be changed to be pickable as we saw in the video that some of them Spalt was able to pick up and some of them he was not able to but to tell the truth each one of them would be worth something for a blacksmith in a town. More loot is always a good thing ;)

@@zarddin Together with the community we recently discussed the idea of being able to switch your currently equipped weapon with a dropped weapon on th ground. That way you can't hoard them, but still are able to pick them up, in sacrifice for your own weapon. Regarding boss enemies. I just recently gave them more cool stuff to drop (like skill books for example). Additionally there is an artifact mechanic that allows you to collect pieces of an artifact which then gives you a powerful equipment piece. Currently this just drops in chests. At least in dungeons all bars can actually be picked up. There are some static bronze bars left, because back in the day bars were static objects. I will remove them, I just didn't had the time to do so yet.

I get that people want to decorate environments with stuff to make it seem like a deep and rich environment, like all the meat hanging up in the cabin, but... it fundamentally does not work. You can't interact with *any of it* and that just makes the environment seem fake and shallow. Which is exactly the opposite of what they wanted.

@@StoneCorazon Things you can't ever interact with become ignored by the player, background noise if you will. If they are along the wall they become dead space in a room. If a dev is spending a lot of time on background noise that just is sort of wasted time. Making things physics items or possibly contain loot solves this, 1% of crates in stalker ever have any loot but they still get shot up in fights and broken by players.

Yeah I hate that, when I play RPGs I always buy as little as possible from merchants. Getting a new sword by killing its previous owner or finding it in a secret room is way cooler than buying it at a store.

The amount of loot increases the higher level a dungeon is. Ther are actually hundreds of different items to loot, but some of them are for quests only atm (I may change that). But agreed I could increase the spawn rate of actual visible loot objects.

This game looks like Skyrim at first glance but everything about it feels empty and hollow. There are potions and food right in front of you but you can't take them or use them. Enemies drop weapons but you can't pick them up. Chests aren't really containers, clicking on them has the same effect as clicking on an object lying on the group except you can't even see what you're going to get. Randomly generated quests mean that every quest is a fetch quest. They will all be, "Get this thing from this place", or "Kill all the monsters in this place" or "Bring me x amount of this". They need to flesh out this game more and add some depth if it's going to be good or memorable.

@@MarkDeSade100 Exactly you could name plenty of others. Thats the reason I don't have to do the same. Quests in RAIDBORN are gameplay driven, not story driven. That means they are here to supplement gameplay and story is secondary. I can only recommend you trying the game before judging. This video shows like 5% of the game. Other than that you are probably just not the target audience and will not like it and that is fine. Just play one of the other games. P.S.: The game is aggressively advertised as not being a story or open world game, so people like you know its not the game for you.

Hey Splat, you should check out Birthright and/or Legends of Ellaria. Birthright seems to be a Mount & Blade style game built in UE5, it has some pretty good reviews and seems to be made by competent devs, the most recent update was on December 10th 2022. Legends of Ellaria is a bit of a mess, I believe it was made by either a single dev or a 2-man team, but they definitely swung for the fences with it, it has a Heroes of Might and Magic style overworld map built on a hexgrid which plays similar to a 4x game, but once you arrive in a map tile, you can play the game either in third/first person kindof like The Elder Scrolls or you can play it as an RTS, using rubberband boxes to select and move units around, construct buildings, etc. It's seriously THE COOLEST damn game ever, quite literally the game I've always dreamt of playing, but the dev(s) just lacked the ability to fully get the game running well. I believe they are still working on it, the last announcement on Steam was December 8th detailing plans for quest and performance optimizations. Regardless of the shoddy execution, which is definitely still playable once you get into it, I think the overall idea of the game deserves a ton of praise and attention. If a more capable team was able to get hold of this idea and run with it, or if the LoE devs got more support, the end result could be a truly incredible game.

I have a quibble that this game and like every FPS ever created is guilty of: no penalty for going backwards. Pull a bow and aim WHILE moving backwards? No problem! Going backwards in full armor? No problem! Fighting backwards WHILE going up or down stairs? No problem! I would love to see a single FPS have some kind of penalty for fighting while going backwards. It doesn't have to be hyper-realistic, but just something. Maybe even the possibility of tripping and falling on your booty! Could even be an option you can turn off and on as a matter of difficulty. (And if there is an FPS that does this, please let me know). This is just a quibble, so internet, don't get excited. The game looks pretty fun.

@@PhodexGames I appreciate that. I just wish some game tried it (maybe one has, but I haven't heard of it). Your game has kicking in it, which could (in theory) make creatures stumble and fall backwards as opposed to just being pushed back. Same could be for the player, where they could be kicked or stumble and laid to the ground, where they are looking up at the enemy. It would change how players fight and use the combat space, and make it very different from other games. Anyway, like I said, it's a quibble, and I appreciate the response.

I guess this demo looks good as a proof of concept of sorts. Combat still have ways to go. Some combo hits would be a good idea. Damage depending on where you hit an enemy not with just a bow wouldn't be bad. Dodge mechanic would be nice. Stealth killing unaware enemies would be even better. And of course, last but not least, a lot of balancing.

Sure this was just the Early Access demo. Lots is planned. Stealh kills are possible, but only when skilled. Generally the combat system starts to unfold as you level up. It is pretty basic at the start.

I like these lockpicking systems, like in gothic, but i thnk they should either limit it so 2 directions and repeat certain patterns like in gothic 2, or introduce a sound queue, so that after a while you will be able to tell rom the sound the last input made what direction comes next.

Enemies feel like damage sponges and them charging the player relentless feels very outdated or more like a lack of AI. Also don't like level restrictions on gear as it feels very MMORPG-like. Else it looks like a game I could have some simple fun with. Kicking enemies into spikes reminds me of Dark Messiah, only that it actually works properly there.

Level restrictions are nessecary to prevent players from saving for high level gear which would destroy the intended game pacing and balancing. Kicking is working as intended. You need to stun enemies first then kick them into traps. Otherwise it would be overpowered.

The start is stupid on the level of Rings of Power or Blood Origin writing level. You killed the king or at least many people think you did but also there are many people that know you did not and they want to clear your name but also while the council thinks you killed the king they just fire you from your job instead of hanging you so now you have lots of free time and you can travel the land and be an adventurer as there is no longer a king you have to protect as he was murdered. But also the council that blames you for the murder and fired you from your job thinks the king was murdered by a necromancer so there is no reason for you to be fired from your job for something that the council knows you didn't do but still they fire you just because they think that maybe maybe maybe you did it while everything points to the necromancer. This game would probably be better off without any writing and story and lore...

Developer here. I kind of agree. I didn't really want to tell a story, but offer cool gameplay instead, but you need to introduce the player to the game and offer some form of tutorial. Also the game needed some form of primary objective as a motivation for the player.

@@PhodexGames Well there are 2 bad things for me in this game right now. 1 - story and writing does not make sense. It needs to be reworked. But here it is done badly and does not really makes sense. Since you include many different classes/skills like Barbarian, Defender, Knight, Rogue and probably some Mage or Cleric or Druid etc. in the future and maybe more to make the game have more interesting build and synergies and we live in a hut in the woods it would be much better storywise in my opinion for our hero to be hired by the council to investigate the king murder instead of being one of the guards that got fired but also blamed for king death. To tell the truth being a guard would in my head only fit Knight and Defender as I don't really see a rogue/mage or barbarian standing still in one place guarding the doors to the king bedroom or something like that. I don't know what is your idea and the whole storyline but being hired to investigate the king's death by finding and killing the guilty ones would fit any class and would also be ok with all the adventuring and getting better loot and earning gold and helping people with their quests while collecting some clues and generally helping people and leveling up. It would also make sense to hire a new face that lives outside the town that many people do not know to investigate and get the job done while also being able to cut all ties if she fails and by that keeping the council safe. 2 - stamina regenerates too slowly so you are stuck being hit by enemies and waiting for it to regen and it does not feel good to basically have no options but to just wait or chug potions in each combat. I think it should regenerate passively all the time and not only when you are not using it for anything or at least it should regen while blocking to make combat more interesting and like a dance and risk/reward scenario where you have to mix light hits and heavy hits and blocks to not deplete stamina to 0 and deplating it to 0 should be punished in some way. I think Bladequest has the exact same problem with stamina right?

@@zarddin Thank you for sharing your thoughts in detail. Regarding the story: The player is not accused of actually having killed the king, and it is more of a political thing. You get fired because you were at the wrong place at the wrong time. The council wouldn't keep you as a guard if you can't even manage to save the king right? Also, the classes make sense because, after you get fired, you become an adventurer and don't have any affiliation with the guards anymore. So it would make sense that you, for example, become a rogue. Still, this is no story game. Regarding the stamina: There is actually a relatively complex system behind it, that Splattercat couldn't explore in such a short amount of time. Each equipment has an handling value that affects stamina usage of different actions. You can also increase handling for different equipment types with skills. Additionally, there are stamina potions that are actually important to use, especially in the beginning. Stamina does regenerate while blocking, just not as fast (you can unlock a skill that makes it regenerate faster). Also, performing a parry gives you stamina. You see, there are a lot of ways to manage your stamina; Splattercat just hasn't explored them yet.

This game has a lot of potential, but with so many non-lootable items that I can see and that drop from enemies would drive me BONKERS and makes less immersive as an RPG for me, but that's just my po.

Developer here. The amount of loot increases the higher level a dungeon is. There are actually hundreds of different items to loot, but some of them are for quests only atm (I may change that). But agreed I could increase the spawn rate of actual visible loot objects.

Not a bad looking game, but I do hate: 1) Why is that copper bar lootable but every other bar is scenery? I really hate that in games. If I can loot one, either let me loot them all or take them out of the scenery list. 2) Infinite stamina enemies whereas you sit like a melon waiting for yours to come back or have to spam potions. I could understand it on bosses, but lv 2 peasants and workers is just unfair.

Developer here. Thank you for the feedback. You can actually loot every bar but the copper bar. I didn't had time yet to remove all of them, because back in the day all bars where static objects and not lootable. I am interested in the idea of giving enemies Stamina. How could this be implemented? Do you know a game that does that?

4:00 Some people have such incredible handwriting skills that it actually sounds wonderful to read. Btw I'm not impressed with the combat, it seems like seconds after any engagement starts you have to stand around doing literally nothing and take a beating while waiting on your stamina. That on top of the red blood animation that plays all the time as if you were just about to die even when you block just makes for an overall poor experience from what I can see.
