Hardspace: Shipbreaker takes the thing I loved about aircraft structural maintenance and amplifies it by factors. It is my zen game. Got a bunch of stuff in my life that's messing with me? Fire up shipbreaker and float around and pull stuff apart in free mode, dismantle things for a while and then I'm ready to go back and deal with whatever is messing with me. It's one of the only games that I play the freeplay mode more than the story mode/career mode.

I LOVE this game. Because the tutorial teaches you how to get started... you get 10-15% of the way in and suddenly, you hit stuff you weren't taught how to do. Gives you a real sense of accomplishment when you figure it out. There are so many different ways to get stuff done and everyone's method is going to be different, because everyone just has to work it out for themselves. And then you move to a new model of ship where everything's laid out differently and there's entirely new systems you haven't heard of before... It's magnificently satisfying and, oddly for a game which is designed to confuse and frustrate you, oddly calming and chill.

Some more tips: - Don't bother removing things that have the same destination as the parent (eg; door console/airlock) - Things go much faster when you lose your fear of the split-saw. Only use the beam when you're worried about cutting something nearby - You can rotate an object that you have grappled by rotating your body (this works for up & down as well) - You can tether objects together to pull them off the wall (so you don't have to wait for them individually) - I like to tether 4 or 5 objects to each other, then pull them all out of a cavity together

Also, if ye pay close attention to 7:17, when Splat attempts to place the demo charge, he's out of range of placement. It's not "buggy/weird", Splat wasn't paying attention to the UI. (he wasn't perfectly aligned when he was drifting right from the first placement, so he was drifting away as well as to the right. He corrects this *after* hitting 'place', hence his confusion. I don't intend to be down on Splat here, I just want to point out his error in calling this a bug.)

I am not a speedrunner, or even particularly fast. I also don't know if any of the below has changed in 1.0. However, here are some tips/tricks to get yourself off the ground with Hardspace Shipbreaker: Don't bother conserving tethers. Yes, you have to buy them, but they're well worth the cost of replacing, as they let you multitask pulling multiple things at once, and tethers have more pull power than you do to-boot. Line cutter will cut anything the precision mode will cut. It will also do this instantly, instead of making you wait for the thing to melt. If you're cutting something, ask yourself if it's possible to line-cut it without exploding anything (reminder: nanocarbon stuff (destined for the processor) cannot be cut by the line cutter). Most of the time, you can cut what you want without having to worry. Obviously learning the exceptions is part of the game. The metal core of a ship (the walls you can cut with your cutter that hide inside the nanocarbon exterior) are usually worth

Been playing this quite some time, enjoyed your video. I'd call this a 'job' simulator. Similar to viscera cleanup, house flipper, gas station simulator and such, it's about doing your job rather than going on some adventure.. The story they added doesn't add much other than the story and the chance to deliberately destroy a ship (I mostly do it by accident). Otherwise, still an entertaining story. I haven't seen any issues with the depressurization. Some ships just make it really hard on you, pretty sure that's as intended. The hazard level doesn't mean a ship is really harder or more dangerous, it just tells you what kind of dangers you can expect. A mackerel at danger level 8 is still less of a hassle than a frontier exploration ship at 6 an interesting factoid, and a tip for anyone starting the game. The number of your debt at the start of the game means something. I've been told it's the annual budget of the US government. Then comes the amount at the end of the story line. It's a fixed amount. It's another item on the US budget, I've been told. The tip is: don't worry about your spending before the end of the story. It doesn't matter how much money you make. So keep your fuel topped off, repair your tools as often as you like, throw tethers around like no tomorrow. Focus on the salvage targets, don't worry about the money.

The cut saw attachment for the laser is by far the better attachment to use. You can cut entire cut points and keep moving, aiming at the next one because the game doesn't really seem to care or notice that you're moving so you can start disintegrating a point, turn 180 degrees and start cutting another point the second the first one is cut.

I've found the easiest way for the pod clamps is to just run through the middle and hit all the cut points, give a short burst to pop them off from the inside, and then once they're all floating 10-15 feet off, daisy chain them all down to the barge. Easy peasy. I will have to try cutting more walls out. I've just been moving the computers through the doorholes, and it's a massive pain in the ass. They really could add some additional things like Magnetic Boots, so you don't have to float all the time, or a portable cargo net, so you can group all the tiny shit inside, together, before sending it down to the barge. I find when you get to the bigger passenger ships, moving all the damn chairs, computers, and cabinets is just so ungodly tedious.
@ZedF86
@ZedF86 2 жыл бұрын
I like to cut out the floor for the bigger passenger ones. I'll clear out the outer shell, break everything free, cut out the floor, then just chill on the ceiling and push everything into the barge. It works pretty well once you get the hang of removing the floor efficiently.

Use the second attachment on the cutter, the first one is slow and crappy. Second one is dangerous but fast. You should also just blast doors open with it, safely decompressing a ship takes too long. Just cut the door with the cutter, hide behind a wall then go in.

Heavily disagree. That explosive decompression can cause stuff floating to clip systems that can cause a cascade of explosions. If you're careful, it works, but I far prefer properly disarming everything a little slowly. I’d argue that “indie games” can be extended to “indie-like games”, with the defining traits being original mechanics dependent on risky (anti-corporate) uses of fledgling tech (in this case, a really great destruction physics system), along with a more focused experience on a single “gotcha” game mechanic, and none of the corporate-safe failsafe add-ons (a ton of unnecessary dialogue, pre-scripted cutscenes, button-timing filler, same-in-kind mission filler, fluffy side-missions, minigames, free-2-play-ish mechanics, …). So it may not be a tiny 1-person project, but neither was “indie” hit Monument Valley, which was very pure, simple, ingenious, artistic, and short-but-sweet. At the end of the day, indie just means independent.

I picked this up not long ago and was worried it'd be tedious. I've tried Car Mechanic and some other "zen" games but found them extremely tedious with the amount of things you have to do. I'm VERY glad this isn't like that. It really is extremely zen, especially in the easy mode, or whatever it's called. No story, no timer, no ship building, just ship breaking.

This game looks fairly interesting. I don’t know if I’d want to spend the time it would take to break down a ship 42 times to clear the debt though. And that’s not even allowing for the fact that Splat is “half way” through the game already…

Vsynch doesn't only fix screen tearing, it also limits the amount of frames generated to what your monitor can handle, it's stupid to make your GPU run at 70-80% power to render 500fps if your monitor will only support 60fps, it'll save you on energy consumption and noise levels, even in some bad console ports it may help with weird collisions, like The Darkness 2 there's an airvent I couldn't pass through, read on the forums it's due to bad porting and you needed to turn on Vsynch (and yes this fixed it) back in the day Vsynch was something you'd turn off unless you needed it, nowadays it's often better to just leave it on

Some times when you shoot the laser and don't hit your mark the laser will deflect off that said item and shoot in another direction maybe hitting something behind you, so you have to watch for that..

i passed on this game when i think it was 20 bucks on sale for like 15 [i tryed to google how many unique wrecks they have but couldnt. it seems like they only have the same few to my eye tho] because after i watched a guy play on stream i realized that once you do each wreck 1-3 times it becomes tedious and the same [no mans why? also had this problem...wide as an ocean deep as a puddle]. cool concept tho. if they had like 15+ hulls with maybe some alternate layouts for each then i might pay the 20...oh they raised it to 35 but didn't address the redundancy issue. nevermind ill just watch someone stream it and remember why i didnt give them any money.

Thank you immensely for scrolling through the options! I was on the fence on buying the game and I think I would rather not play if there's no option to lessen the brightness of the laser.

I bought this game after you covered it a long time ago out of curiosity more than anything and was not expecting how incredibly satisfying it was to take a ship and strip it down until you're throwing the last worthless pieces into the furnace. Just throw on some music and chill out.

less cutting is more time saved, you don't need demo charges to gut the ruings, just split saw the middle bottom one pull it in the barge with 2 strings, cut the middle and either one to the right or left on the top one and use strings to pull them into the barge... saves A LOT of time... you can also cut the aft end loose and use the thurster as a ram to punch it free keep the ECU and reactor in one pice cut it loose and pull it all into the barge... :D com on time is money, watch some speed runs ma man

Splats good at making games look good, unfortunately they are missing a ton of stuff they had been saying would be in the final game for a long time. There are only a handful of different ships to take apart and by midpoint of the game you have already seen everything.
