I mean it is not surprising. He usually functions as the Nick Fury of the Mortal Kombat. He fetches the actual heros and just organizes them. He wasn't actually allowed to participate in the tournament in at least MK 9 and the original movie (I don't know the older game's plots as well). Honestly, the actual Mortal Kombat tournament is the most boring part of the MK games. It is why he has been much better in the games set after the tournament.

About Christopher Lambert, i actually think he was a preety competent Raiden, he gave good advices, he didn't allow other kombatants from outside the Tournament to interfer in it, he protected his own champions from said kombatants etc.

As it really should be, so it's for Raiden to be played by a WHITE actor, but not by an Asian, which the god of thunder was nowhere. this is one time. Secondly, it is not profitable to hire an Asian in principle, at least because they are mostly still quite low, and high in most of them do not have a pumped-up body, while Raiden is 213cm according to the canon, while with a good shape.

Sanada is NOT the type of guy I imagine playing raiden, 1. Sanada is better as scorpion. 2. He’s Japanese, and it wouldn’t give the same feel. I know some people don’t see the difference, but it’s obvious that if raiden did actually have a ethnicity, he would be Chinese instead of Japanese.

The made him a good guy in the original MK movie and the character was forever more on that trajectory. Though in the original arcade MK 1 he was a thunder god and a diety and that's all we knew. Tadanobu Asano is not so tiny (179 cm). The smallest guy in this movie is Hiroyuki Sanada - Scorpion (168 cm). But yes... In MK games Raiden is 7 feet tall (213.36 cm).
