Per the designer on a BGG thread, you do not get extra provisions from the foragers unless you take provisions. Gold does not trigger the ability.

RODNEY'S NEXT MOVE: Raid the Harbour for that two silver! Get the extra point from your Warmonger then throw him overboard with the Valkyrie (a glorious death). With that Grey viking you'll be able to raid an Outpost next turn, or claim some victory points at the Long House with the newly acquired silver.

Shane Laporte I'm guessing you meant iron? Haha I was thinking the same thing though, except maybe use the newly acquired iron to beef up armor, and thus the new hero's strength.

Yes, iron. How could I forget THAT of all things. :-) It's funny, because the first time I played this game I kept calling the iron "stone" and my gaming crew kept having to correct me. I guess I've been playing too many Euro games lately!

Neat to see decisions play out and affect the look of the board. I can tell my first few games I'll be distracted by the great artwork. Was also wondering how the different coloured workers would play out, I am impressed with all the little gears and how they work together. I see how your plans might be sent awry by not planning on future meeples! ;)

Yes, while you are never starved for options, the particular one you might want could be unavailable, or not set up to allow you to time your actions as you'd like. Also, you have to consider what pieces your opponent might want, to stall out their plans, or anticipate how what they are doing might interfere with what you want to do next.

Rodney has a ship full of plunder-mad vikings; unfortunately he doesn't have the white or grey worker he needs to make best use of them (raiding outposts, monasteries, or fortresses). Although he can gain a grey worker by raiding a harbor, he will lose one of his vikings to a Valkyrie and he doesn't have any conveniently disposable warriors at the moment. Instead he should look to gaining a white worker so that he can raid a fortress (preferably the rightmost one). But he needs one more viking in his ship and a white warrior to make it so. To get that extra viking in play, he should place his worker on the silversmith, gaining three silver and then taking the black worker from the gate house, gaining two new cards in his hand. On the next turn Rodney's well positioned to hire the best viking available and then upgrade to a grey worker to continue raiding. SKOL!

The designer has stated in BGG that additional provisions are not gained when taking gold at the mill. As for the next action, I have to agree with Shane Laporte. The only good move is raiding that harbour with the two silver, which saves enough provisions to raid an outpost right away. Unless Pep leaves that white viking hanging around, then you may want to go for the offerings first.
