Raids, Fractals, and Collections: Zero to Hero Episode 5

Hey guys thanks for tuning into another episode, i actually got my first raid clear this week on this account with just about 40 hours played total. I ultimately went back and polished off VG, and held the torch through spirit run so now to complete envoy 1 i am just waiting on spirit thread and globs of ectoplasmic residue which is a time-gate. still have quite a bit to do before we can effectively call ourselves a hero but its a good start. 1. Raids -tried it, cleared some bosses but it just takes alot of time. It's a good thing we have strikes for people that cant commit 1-2hrs of non stop raiding. 2. IBS masteries except waystation are useless

1.) I love raids! In terms of rewards & investment, they're the best while not including the legendary armor & trinket from them. It only needs exotic as a bare minimum and you can upgrade to ascended with the rewards you get or buy from raids. The only problem would be that it's much harder to find groups compared to other game modes w/ all the KP requirements if you're gonna be relying on pugs. All you gotta do as a new player is learn the mechanics via guides & ask a commander to give you a chance. Speaking of, I don't need these too much any more, but Wing 2+ guide soon for the new raiders? :D 2.) Ancient Magics from HoT maybe? Idk how it was on-release tho. But with all the power creeping & mounts nowadays, you probably could do without it.

1. I think raids are a lot of fun; I've, so far, only been able to complete Raid Wing 1 with a group, though we attempted Raid Wing 2(? the one with the genies in PoF). I will say, though, my experience had by far the most stress I've ever felt in a video game--granted, I was doing quick heals, so there was a lot of pressure to perform well. I enjoy the stress and challenge though, so I'm looking forward to doing it again and getting gud. Everything in the Open World I've played after doing that raid has felt /easy/. 2. Agh, the Dragon Slayer mastery trait line. The essence mastery traits, at least, give some tangible bonuses to opening chests and to defiance break, while the "Charr Toolbelt" ones give access to some pretty nifty abilities. But, the Dragon Slayer trait line? Not sure what it's supposed to do; it's something I'll only train just to be able to be at fully mastery level, so I don't have to worry about doing them ever again.

When there was a discount for all expansions I bought an alt. With the wizards vault you are raid ready after completing the weekly objectives and buying gold and laurels for buying exotics gear. For HP you do HoT and take mastery points that are in open world and exp for track is quick through raids. Ofc you also want the mounts but you only need basic masteries and you are done. The only mastery that is harder to obtain is for invisibility detection and adrenal mushrooms but they are not mandatory. And of course I went for pds beserker first (main) and chrono with it's power dps, c virt and Boon chrono. Haven't learned boon healer yet. But not having any kp would definitely make it a pain in the ass to pug. (I have it linked to main account).

Yeah I don't have my main acct linked I just lie and try not to mess up in the fights. Boon chrono is great and once I get it set up it'll definitely be seeing a lot of play.

First time I did xera I didn’t have ley line gliding. I had the points and all the exp requirement. I forgot to click it in the mastery menu. Lmao

I put on zerker trinkets with harrier armor as healing is low overall anyway. When you get the add. Riffle phantasm. Rifle 2 3 and dump mantra of pain. Use secondary effect of rifle 3 and shatter f1 f2 and the add is dead.

One thing I've always wanted in an mmo, is the capacity to turn one of my characters into an npc companion, allowing me to level the two characters at the same time. I know this will never be a thing, but man, do I want it. I hate the burden of team play in a lot of games. It turns me away from a lot of content.

Group play can be frustrating but if you understand group comps it's more patience than anything. Leveling also doesn't take too long. In GW1 they had a heros system and mercenaries which would allow you to use alt characters as heros but it's not the same as what you're talking about, still cool though!

Well i must say i rarely do raids. In EU PUGs ask 50-100kp or 250LI, i dont have them, and i dont want to join because i know commanders who make that requests just add ppl who ingnore requests to blacklists. I sometimes do raid trainings with guild but usually its about 2-3 training a month and they are more focused on w4-7. May be i could join other guilds for raiding but i try to finish leggy trinkets 1st. I am about 80% done with amulet and vision and 50% on wvw ring. Aurora and 2nd wvw promise to be a great timesink later... I am also halfway with soto leggy armour, my biggest trouble is to farm amnytas big crystals, they only made 2 big chests and meta is actually quiet long to make it daily... As for masteries i think the worse for me are fishing and skiff. You almost exclusively use skiff for fishing and fishing is just not fun....

I definitely feel for the KP crowd. I often don't even ask for KP and opt to kick people if duties aren't met, most comms take these fights too seriously and I understand it can be frustrating but wings 1-4 are basically a walk in the park for the most part. 5-7 can be moderately challenging but overall nothing to be afraid of.

Looks like you're going all-in on mesmer or at least light armor. Most people would pick either heavy/medium on Envoy 1 then their preferred on Envoy 2. That being said, when are we gonna see some action on your alts? :D

It was a smooth run atleast lol. I'll be doing more W1s over the next couple weeks for spirit threads and Ecto Residue. Also need to go do twisted castle for the aurillim mirror.

1. Raids are the only content I haven't tried yet. They look like they take over an hour to clear and I don't have the time for a play session to be that long. 2. Ancient magics or the rock paper scissors IBS masteries. Feels like they just exist as gimmicks and to time-gate content

i'm kinda new to the game (started about a month ago) I'm not new to MMOs having done savage raiding in ff14 and I would like to try raids at some point because i've enjoyed the fractals and strike missions i've done so far but i haven't found any groups that run training sessions on EU. The least useful mastery is that one you get in siren's landing in LWS3 i genuinely have no idea what it is used for. most of those masteries seems totally useless honestly (i hate those vines in draconis fen with a passion)

To some degree it's about just getting in there, NA server is basically all private groups, guilds, statics or discords. Many open groups want some amount of KP which is frustrating but you can always join and be like "I know what I'm doing just give me a chance!" Some people will kick others will atleast give you a pull or two. Just make sure your gear and rotation is on point, and don't mess up key mechanics like xera special action key, or Mattias corruption, or diemos oils. Just watch some boss guides to figure out what to be aware of and get some pulls under your belt.

1) Raids aren't it for me personally. Cleared HTCM and got this hat, but that and the wings I've cleared never made me want to go back. 2) 2/3rds of all the masteries are filler. I counted and reviewed all 155 something of them. Masteries seemed like an adventurous idea of dealing with horizontal progression, but it's clear that masteries only became a check in the box for new released content. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a "minimum mastery" limit on every expac written somewhere in the Anet offices. That's why so many are just awful.

To this day the main hill I will die on for GW2 is that they should have kept reworking maps for the sake of story. Yes new players will be a bit confused. Yes new players will have missed what happened. But Tower of Nightmare and exploding LA were some of the biggest "oh shit theres consequences to this story" and "theyre really doing something different here arent they" moments. I'm not against new maps, I just think they should have found a mix. Maybe Xpacs do new territory but LW tries to rework or revisit maps.
