+arsenalgunners I don't think Ferrari's car fit his driving. I even like him better in 2012 Lotus than Ferrari.
@chanchaniceman9 жыл бұрын
+singleminded84 Kimi in that second graded Lotus car was just mega. Always gets the best out of that car.
@Mornys9 жыл бұрын
+singleminded84 I think now that Alonso is gone Ferrari made the car so that it's balance now suits both Vettel and Kimi. It's just that Kimi still has a lot of problems getting the tires work with his driving style. The tires work in too small window and the teams can't even do proper testing to make them work for sure. Those tires favor natural style of some drivers and are bad for others. It's almost like they're not racing the car anymore, but racing just tires.
@Balnazzardi9 жыл бұрын
+Omnia in numeris True and that was also one of the reasons why KImi was so great in 2012 and especially during first half of 2013. The tyres were much softer and you had to be really gentle to them to maximize their potential in the race, and Kimi was excellent doing just that. Unfortunately Kimi's way of driving is just not suited to these much harder tyres, but luckily for next year there will be new "super-super-soft" compound and teams can freely choose the other tyre compound for each weekend....that should help Kimi somewhat, although the decision to use softer tyres wont be solely based on Kimi's preferance ofcourse.

+michael16 That's true. I think Kimi would've won at least two championships with McLaren against Schumacher if It wasn't for McLaren's catastrophic unreliability.

+Ciaron Smith Schu was the only other driver I can remember (I didn't watch the Ayrton Senna days, mind you) that was so relentlessly fast in the races. Current tyre regulations prevent this sort of awesomeness though :(
@ciaronsmith49959 жыл бұрын
+spronkey Watch the opening stint of the 2005 Spanish GP before he pits. The best opening stint I have ever seen from a driver. Just, as you say, relentless. Pirelli are such a joke right now. Great brand, but how can they justify changing the tyres so often and producing such terrible compounds? Ruining the racing. Should be like the old michelins. Cars should have more downforce as well. Kimi is being limited. He still has it imo.
@lotusraptos5 жыл бұрын
@@ciaronsmith4995 Kinda late, but I also think Montoya at Williams was phenomenal. He held the track record at Monza until earlier this year. His pace was phenomenal, too bad that he didn't have the luck to match. If it weren't for Malaysia, Brazil and that farce of a penalty in the USA, I reckon he could have won the WDC, even taking Japan into account. His Germany 2003 drive basically proves my point.

@mrRTvids9 жыл бұрын
+RandomUsername I wouldn't say so. Like he wasn't exciting in 2012 - 2013 in Lotus? Schooling drivers in better cars like it was nothing. Ferrari is just now getting the car even remotely competitive and he has had a lot of technical issues this year. I hope 2016 is the Ferrari year, maybe he can pull off just one more championship win.
@fl45hman9 жыл бұрын
+Richard In terms of racecraft and consistency he was very good indeed in Lotus, but even then Grosjean was just as fast over one lap. 2007-2009 Massa usually had the upper hand in qualifying. And let's not even mention his current spell at Ferrari where Alonso thrashed him and now Vettel is doing the same on a consistent basis. Fastest ever? Hardly.
@mrRTvids9 жыл бұрын
RandomUsername Haha, he was a world champion in Ferrari, Massa wasn't. Grosjean clearly lost both seasons to Kimi. And Let's not pretend like Vettel and Alonso haven't had bad seasons. Last year Vettel was schooled by Ricciardo. You really think Kimi has suddenly lost all his skills after going to Ferrari? The car has been total shit, but it seems that it's getting better for him. He has retired already 3 times this season. Without those retirements he would be max 20 - 30 points from Vettel. I see no reason why he wouldn't match Vettel next season or even beat him.

Back in the day when Raikkonen drove with real aggression and hunger. Oh and no DRS or fancy engine boost buttons either. He really should have won the championship at least once with McLaren. While the races of the time weren't always as great, as a visual and audio package this is definitely what F1 should be like. The cars look fast, it sounds fast and it was fast. F1 going forward needs to at least get back too one of those traits as right now it has none of them.
@Dannyistravelling7 жыл бұрын
2017 cars are unbelievably fast. They have the fastest cornering speeds ever! So they ARE faster (and are going to beat track records in most races, I believe), they look extremely fast (just watch Kimi going round turn 9 in Spain). They only thing they're missing is the "sounding fast", which is a matter of opinion, if you ask me. I do prefer the sound of the V10s, but yeah, life goes on.

***** Ok fair point, risk is something that adds excitement but IMO the number of overtakes that happen now should give a lot of courageous ones as well. If you could quantify courageousness I don't think it has changed much since DRS was introduced. The total 'amount' of courageousness hasn't changed, just the courageousness per overtake. And the more overtakes the better IMO.

These cars were fine without DRS because they were lighter, smaller and maybe a bit more agile. If the nowadays cars didn't have DRS we would propably see an average of 0.5 overtakes per race or something
