I took my rail bike down over the week of the 4th of july weekend and was to ride on the Nevada Northern Railway in Ely Nv.

So to make a 360 VR video, there are many companies out there who make these cameras... Some very affordable and some very expensive. Im partial to Insta360... wide range of cameras and prices. But there are a lot of companies that make very good and affordable cameras. Simple to operate and do a great job.

Very cool and we are actually thinking of taking what we learned with this bike and building a new one out of aluminum here soon as this one is a little heavy. the wheels came from Rons Railrider Wheels here is a link to his site they were quite pricy about $920 i think for them. but well worth it as it rides quite and true. www.railriders.net/

Eriks Gar. You should get a horn, air or electric, long, long, short, then long as you enter the crossing. Also, 24 to 36 vdc pulse in the rails to turn on and off crossing lights, fwiw. You guys s are kewl!

Gary Jones the rail road is still in operation. The NNRy has several steam engines and a couple of Diesel engines. They do tours to Ruth all the time, and in the winter they go On Polar Express excursions. The railroad north of McGill is mostly abandoned though, and the highway department paved over the tracks at Currie

Is this line still intact or has it been pulled up for the scrap value? What is the history of this line? GJK Hackettstown, NJ
@Eriks1916 жыл бұрын
Gary Kuipers this line is still all there though most of it not in use. It is owned by the Nevada Northern Railway historical foundation. The NNRY run daily excursion trains on the 8 mile line that I am riding here. The line was built to Haul copper ore from the mine to the smelter and then out to the mainline Southern Pacific Railroad.
@scvandy31296 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed "my ride" courtesy of your video. And I enjoyed two days, back-to-back, riding the Nevada Northern Railway's tourist operation about 10 years ago. Your ride appears to go considerably farther than the eight miles I rode and the eight miles you specify. Regarding your explanatory, defensive responses to complaints posted that you should have "hopped over" the gravel, I clearly remember the NNRwy operators mentioning if a ton of money fell in their lap they could offer alternate rides taking the train and its enthusiastic passengers on the existing, vintage track all the way, to end-of-line, about 50 miles north. There, that was where the rails used to intersect with the former Western Pacific Railroad and / or Southern Pacific, both west-to-east / east-to-west lines. Maybe even resume occasional freight / revenue runs. I was so intrigued by that possibility I've tried to stay informed on all things NNRwy. I don't recall hearing that the track had been pulled. If you are indeed correct, it's a sad, sad development. BTW, the smile video-captured on the female rider's face speaks volumes!
@Eriks1916 жыл бұрын
Hi SC Vandy, So i will attach a map that i created on the NNRY. this map should explain all the rails that are left and what condition they are in. For the most part the main line is all there but it is a long ride to Shafter which is the only main line connection they have. unfortuntly the crossing at Currie is paved over so no trains can come in. A passenger ride that far would be far too long and boring for most people. the closest they could expand is out to the Depot at McGill. Also i rode the main line out to High Line Jct. at the junction i rode to the right and up what is called the high line which ran all the ore trains to the mill. this run is done currently during the mid week at the NNRy so trains go out there about half way up but no to the end like me. I rode to the end of the high line. tracks were torn up after that which is about a mile worth toward the mill when the mill was taken out. I hope you find the map helpful and there are photos attached to the pegs to show you the area. drive.google.com/open?id=1_Z_3zRZYRs6clZkBjfU9qfyw6QI&usp=sharing
@scvandy31296 жыл бұрын
Thank you; unfortunately your attachment failed to open ("Error Code 404") using both Safari and Firefox browsers. How frustrating. I really desired to study the map and photos. Your written info is helpful. Riding the NNRwy about 10 years ago I recall the steam ride going to Ruth and possibly McGill. I suggested going further, to Cherry Creek, site of a modest depot and/or water tank, but that wasn't "part of the game plan." Touring the NNRwy's storage barn / construction barn was an add'l highlight. Despite the northbound rails now covered at Currie, do the rails remain going all the way to Wells? The following day's ride (during snow, late April) was pulled the diesel/electric engine, in what I thought was the opposite direction from the depot. Perhaps that's the High Line Junction you mention. Your map surely provides an image of that line to "jog my memory." Sorry, but I can't remember the name of the terminus point on that ride. Interesting that only I and a couple from Carson City, the Young man being the manager of the NV State RR Museum, were the paying passengers. I inquired of the mgt., "isn't that an excuse to cancel a run?" He replied, "No, it's good practice / training of our crew." Finally, flying commercial from Las Vegas to Ely was a breeze. I'm sorry for future riders of the NNRwy that that option has disappeared, as there are no more commercial flights serving. I thoroughly enjoyed a scenic drive (in rental car) to Major's Place and other scenic, historic attractions. Oh, and "chasing" the train for additional photo opportunities. I wish you many more fun miles on your rail cart.
@Eriks1916 жыл бұрын
@SC Vandy Here is a new link. this one should work. the map should explain everything. also the run toward McGill on the Highline the locomotive runs to Lavon siding then runs around the train and takes you back to Ely. There have been no trains to Mcgill in over 10 years. drive.google.com/open?id=1_Z_3zRZYRs6clZkBjfU9qfyw6QI&usp=sharing

Devendra this is the end of the line today. Originally the line ran further into the big smelter where the ore was deposited and smelted. This was a railroad the hauled tons of copper ore and pure copper.

@vilislacis33375 жыл бұрын
Was this really the end of the line? It looked like you could push it forward and keep going.
@Vincent_Sullivan5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is pretty much the end of the line. You will note that this section of rail is identified in the video as the "High Line". When in full operation its function was to take trains of copper ore cars to the concentrator plant which was located on the sloping side of the valley. This line was built up the side of the valley so that it could dump the ore into the plant up high and the process could then flow downhill so most of the material movement was done by gravity. Concentrated ore was then loaded into freight cars for the trip North up the floor of the valley on the "Main Line". There was no point in carrying the "high line" further North past the concentrator plant when, if you wanted to travel further North, you would just do it on the main line. This "end of line" is located just East of McGill Nevada at the North end of town. The concentrator plant is long gone, but of you look at the area on Google maps / Google Earth you can still see some remnants of the infrastructure such as water tanks and the like.
