A set of shots showing a westbound rail train with UP 7480 and UP 5323 dropping a rail near Goecken Rd in the Livermore, California area on January 3, 2021.
At Goecken Rd:
1. The rail train pulls into position to prepare for the rail drop.
2. As the drop begins, the train pulls slowly forward, and the rail slides out.
3. The train stops to finish the drop, but because the end of the rail is "right on top of a roller" (as you can hear the crew members say over the radio), the train moves slightly more forward.
4. With the train in position, the crew starts cutting through the rail, but then has to stop to swap a gas tank.
5. With the tank changed, the cutting resumes. On the radio, the dispatcher can be heard telling the rail train that he will have to get a westbound z-train around them at Livermore.
6. Once the cut is complete, the crew reboards, and the train proceeds west.
At the Livermore ACE Station:
7. The aforementioned z-train, with UP 5829, UP 7720, and UP 6898 on the head end, and UP 8354 and UP 9058 on the rear, rolls west through the siding.
8. The rail train heads west on the main.
