In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Leoben to Vienna, a Second part of the journey from Klagenfurt to Vienna on a ÖBB flagship Railjet service in 4K/60 frames per second.
Soon after leaving Leoben we rach Bruck an der Mur junction station where we join in the Südbahn (Southern railway) coming from Graz and south (historically going all the way to Maribor and Zagreb) and we start the climb across the Semmering on the historic and UNESCO World Heritage Site Semmeringbahn (Semmering bahn), a scenic and challenging 40 kilometer mountain railway completed in 1854. reaching the maximum altitude of 894M ASL. After descending from Semmering to Gloggnitz we pick up speed and reach Wiener Neustadt and then we make way north to Vienna, reaching our final destination of Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), new central Vienna station completed in 2015.
New Semmering Base Tunnel, being built between Murzzuschlag and Gloggnitz will avoid the historic Semmeringbahn, but a new 27,3km high-speed tunnel will replace 41km of old winding line and provide up to half an hour of time savings on Vienna-Graz and Vienna-Klagenfurt.

In 2000-2020 I regularly went by train from Vienna Westbahnhof to Attnang-Puchheim and back and I must say this railway (Klagenfurt-Leoben-Vienna hbf) is not less picturesque. In 1998 the Semmering railway was added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. The unique travel experience which the Semmering railway offered contributed significantly to the original opening of the Semmering region for tourism. Numerous hotels and mansions are witnesses of this epoch.

Wunderbare Fahrt durch den Osten Österreichs von der Steiermark über Niederösterreich nach Wien. Das Weltkulturerbe Semmeringbahn (man nennt den Semmering nicht umsonst "Zauberberg") ist ein Erlebnis! Erbaut 1854 von Dr. Carl Ritter von Ghega als erste Gebirgsbahn der Welt ist sie immer noch ein technisches und architektonisches Meisterwerk, das auch nach der in ein paar Jahren (vssl. 2030) erfolgen werdenden Inbetriebnahme des neuen und 27,3 km langen Semmering-Basistunnels erhalten bleiben wird.

Complimenti vivissimi ! Video eccezionale per un viaggio eccezionale ! Due cose da segnalare: le ÖBB viaggiano a destra, la ex Compagnia Südbahn a sinistra e fino a pochi anni fa le ÖBB sulle linee ex Südbahn tenevano la sinistra, poi hanno deciso di unificare tutto a destra vista la banalizzazione dei segnali. E' il primo video che vedo con il Semmering a destra. Non solo, è pure il primo video che vedo con un treno che non ferma da Leoben a Wiener Neustadt, generalmente si ferma almeno anche a Bruck an der Mur e Mürzzuschlag. Come notizia storica: la Linea Vienna-Trieste costruita dall'ing. Karl Ritter Von Ghega (il Ghega-Museum si vede a sinistra in alto all'imbocco del Kalte Rinnne Viaduct) per onorare uno dei progettatori, l' arciduca Giovanni (ricordato per le sue opere con tanti monumenti sia in Austria che in Slovenia) venne ufficialmente chiamata "ErzherzogJohannbahn". Ma poichè andava alsud a Trieste si cominciò a chiamarla "Sudbahn" ed è nota ormai con questo nome, anche se il nome ufficiale nei documenti rimane sempre "ErzherzogJohannbahn"

As the Semmering is a major bottleneck in the Austrian railway network, the Semmering Railway, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, will be supplemented by a tunnel at the base of the mountains. The existing route via Semmering is 41 km in length. The Semmering Base Tunnel will be 27.3 km in length and is under construction between Mürzzuschlag 0:35:00 and Gloggnitz 1:14:10. The new route will offer time savings of up to 35 minutes, partly on account of the shorter route and partly on account of the higher speed limit (maximum 250 km/h).

The tunnel will also save a lot of maintenance cost on the old line; currently the Semmering line is fully operational with two tracks throughout only for about 100 days per year, as there is always some construction work going on to keep the 150 year old line working. And it will greatly simplify operation and allow longer and heavier freight trains (no need to add additional locos in Mürzzschlag or Gloggnitz) and reduce energy consumption, as it saves about 220 meters of elevation. Freight is actually the main reason for the tunnel being built; the shorter travel time is just a nice bonus. For this very reason it was originally planned to already begin in Langenwang (with an underground station 50m below Mürzzuschlag), which would have reduced the gradient even more. But this was eventually deemed too expensive.

The route from Leoben to Vienna is undoubtedly the most fascinating! The Semmering Bahn is a masterpiece of virtuosity and technology, incredible for the time when the Swiss engineer Carl von Ghega built it. As complicated an orography as that of the Giselabahn on the Arlberg tunnel. It is not for nothing that it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Taurus with its melody (after all, we are in the land of Mozart and Beethoven) climbs the hills and reliefs of the Semmering descending to Gloggnitz in a green landscape full of charm and nature. Unfortunately, the future Semmering Bypass will take away this beauty, which will be intended for regional traffic only. Let's enjoy it for now! And finally the line after many Siemens Desiro, Talent, Cityjet and many Taurus and Vectron arrives at the futuristic Wien Hbf station, a spectacular station for its arches, which replaced the old Wien Sudbahnhof station! Excellent!

Hallo, gibt es einen bestimmten Grund dafür, dass man die „Druckluft“ (Kompressor?) beim Steuerwagen kontinuierlich hört? Man kann dies öfters bei CabRide Videos aus dem Steuerwagen hören. Aufgefallen ist mir dies auch schon bei den Steuerwagen der CityShuttles. Danke im Voraus und LG andreas

Das ist der Fahrtwind, nicht der Kompressor. Die Kamera ist bei fast allen Videos auf diesem Kanal ja außen an der Lokomotive bzw dem Steuerwagen montiert.

@papaschlumpf332 Currently, the fastest Vienna-Graz Railjet service is 2 hours 35 minutes. As the Semmering is a major bottleneck in the Austrian railway network, the Semmering Railway, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, will be supplemented by a tunnel at the base of the mountains. The existing route via Semmering is 41 km in length. The Semmering Base Tunnel will be 27.3 km in length and is under construction between Gloggnitz 1:14:10 and Mürzzuschlag 0:35:00. The new route will offer time savings of up to 35 minutes, partly on account of the shorter route and partly on account of the higher speed limit (maximum 250 km/h).

Bellissimo. Mi sono davvero divertito. Mettendo insieme gli altri filmati che avevi fatto in precedenza, si può fare un viaggio completo da Trieste a Vienna e oltre... tipo proseguire per Bratislava...
