Railroad Switching On Rusty Wye Track, Short Line Railroad First Train! Rare Sunday Train In Ohio! 1

Short Line Railroad Switching or Railway Shunting as they say in the UK. The east leg of the Sardinia Wye is usually rusty. Norfolk Southern never used that track after they abandoned the railroad to Hillsboro. Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET uses it to load their company flat cars. This is the first train of the year! This is a rare train since it was on a Sunday, the first train for 2022 on this end of the line and it ran into the night on its way to the quarry in Plum Run , Ohio which is a couple miles east of Peebles. Trains normally only run during the week on this line during first shift hours although I have seen a few of them on the weekends lately. It looks like weekends will become common since the quarry is being used for rock shuttles. First we see the train running eastbound across Kline Road in Mount Orab, Ohio. Then we see the other side of the train as it enter Sardinia. After that we see some railroad switching. The train is spotting both CCET flat cars to load on the east leg of the Sardinia Wye. I have seen them load concrete blocks here and then take them to the rock unloading site in Milford. Finally we get to see the train go by the old Norfolk & Western line side signals as it leaves Sardinia en route to Hanson quarry. If you like short line railroad action, then this video is for you! I noticed an abandoned relay box by that first crossing signal in your video. Sometimes there are cool old relays left behind. Next time you're along there, if you think about it, check to see if there's anything inside the box. You know, just to satisfy my curiosity, lol. Happy New Year!

One must be careful when exploring these devices. Tampering with railroad equipment, even if it appears to be defunct, is still a federal crime under Homeland Security. We have a short line operating trackage leased from NS and they have some serious no trespassing signage posted along the right of way. Your video was interesting and enjoyable. Don't the railroad police ever challenge you?

at least one good thing came from covid lol!!! the short line by me picked up a customer, due to fuel prices and he couldnt keep drivers. Parts of the line havent been used since the 90s and 400' since the 80s

It's not actually all CCET. The locos are leased from Indiana Box Car Corp (IBCX) and the last four hoppers are three COGX and one CSXT.

The Cincinnati Eastern is very interesting. It being a smaller company, you don't get endless parades of various rolling stock so it never gets tedious, and there's always the chance of some switching going on. Great stuff, Brian. Plus the locos have a really striking livery, too!

You need to get a shot looking west across the Elk Fork trestle from Mt Zion Road (Route 32 to Reed Road to Mt Zion Road east of Winchester). There is a downgrade to the trestle and then an upgrade to Mt Zion road. It is an interesting view.
