Glad to see they have more locomotives in service now and got a third one painted in the CCET color scheme. I watched this video on my phone using a studio grade set of headphones to listen to tye audio. Those engines really sound good over the headphones. It was funny, when they set off with the gondolas to Macon honking the horns, some roosters crowed in response. The kitty was cute. Lots of attitude.

The green and yellow B23-7 is a former Modoc Northern that ran out of Lakeview Oregon. That railroad fell apart overnight and who owns the CCET took over the line and got a few of their motors in the process. He transferred it over to the CCET and I believe it is a parts unit
@robertf34792 жыл бұрын
I read the same thing about #1011 being a "parts donor" for the other two GE units.

@@robertf3479 I like the term we used in the Army: "hangar queen" -- a term for a piece of equipment more or less stored in the shop, and used for parts to keep other equipment going. Apparently it's easier than ordering the needed parts.
@robertf34792 жыл бұрын
@@georgeadams1853 The Navy uses the same term and for the same reason. It might be that the B23-7 is old enough that prime mover parts are getting pretty scarce on the shelf, but she might have some parts commonality with the B36s, as strange as that might sound.

You’ve captured an interesting element of railroading design, the “wye”. Used in lieu of a turntable for turning steam engines for return trips. In mountainous terrain the railroads, for lack of space, would install a “wye” into a tributary off the major river to turn locomotives and those facilities spawned housing and restaurants for engine crews which later developed into towns. There are several examples of these “wyes” turned into towns in WV and KY. Thanks Jaw for this video.
@richarddrum99702 жыл бұрын
Examples of these “wye” communities include: Naugatuck and Iaeger, WV and Martin, KY. There are others as well. Being at the head end of long rivers, each wye provided an opportunity to turn steam locomotives and now diesels for return trips downstream without needing a turntable. They morphed into towns as facilities for train crews expanded and railroad maintenance shops arrived.
@dsmith99642 жыл бұрын
@@richarddrum9970 NS has a wye in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville. It lies between the K&I Bridge, Youngtown Yard and a slip that leads to the CSX-LIRC-PAL interchange.

This WYE is actually where the Hillsboro branch of the NW took off to,,,Hillsboro.(Home of Johnny Paycheck) In 1976 or so this line was still active to Hillsboro. However, currently the line to Hillsboro is ripped up. The WYE is all that is left.
