It’s currently locked to “compound” only performance wise. It’s not truly a compound tho. Currently, Railroader only recognizes one set of cylinders per locomotive and the mod functions by “tricking” the editor into thinking it’s an overpowered 0-6-2. It’s not ideal but it works. Future updates/mods may allow for the “two engine” setup to be done away with.

The H-6 won’t be any more powerful than the Berk is right now. The H-6 has 77,900 lb TE in compound, while the Berk has 79,900 TE because it has a booster. For the cost, though, you can save a few bucks with the H-6.

The Berk is the B-65 in the game. It’s advertised as having 65,400 lb TE. However, from my own testing on red marble grade, I figured out that the extra 15,000 lb TE from the booster is automatically included as well, but not advertised. So the B-65’s total TE is 79,900, which makes it the most powerful engine in the game at the moment.

Enjoy bigboy but I think there were far better articulates especially with this game being more of a slower route type. Y6a, A class, 2-8-8-4 yellowstones and few others. (2-10-10-2 AE) of course all perfect for slow coal hauling with many turns.

It will be slightly less than what the Berk can take up, since H-6 performance will be locked in compound for now, with 77,900 lb TE. The Berk has 79,900 TE since it is equipped with a booster, and from my testing, the Berk can lift 850 tons up Red Marble, with that weight being inclusive of the engine and tender.

After a certain point, there is such a thing as “too big.” For example, the AE makes sense on some level because, while it’s a very large locomotive, it isn’t one of the more modern “superpower” articulated locomotives. The curves, switches, engine shops, and overall nature of Railroader’s map push many “modern” engines, like the H8, into the realm of legend rather than practical usefulness in the context of Railroader. I’m personally a fan of big power, but until we get more mileage or a different route, I don’t see an H8 being practical for a while.

It’s already putting down ~80,000 lb of tractive effort at 85% throttle, so really the only problem that the wheelslip creates is the inability to use this engine with the A.I.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 208,200 lbs (104.1 tons) tender weight is supposed to be its loaded weight, not empty. The tender currently is a whopping 362,000 lbs (181 tons) when loaded. Considering it's not even that big of a tender, it doesn't seem right. I have no way of contacting the creator, but this would be useful information if I happen to be correct on the tender's weight.

In short : No. Railroader currently does not have the ability to support a locomotive with more than one set of Cylinders / driving wheels. What’s being done here is this : trick the game’s built in TE / performance calculator into giving you something close without being 100% accurate. You’re really trying to recreate the performance of an H6 out of what the game reads as an 0-6-2. Further mods, patches and/or scripting may be developed in the future to allow for better implementation of articulated locomotives.

Well, this is what you’ve got for now. As much as we’d all like to see that, Railroader’s tractive effort calculator/locomotive editor current does not support locomotives with more than one set of cylinders. It’s also not a fan of articulation in general. In the future, mods may be developed to accommodate them being added as “One engine” or they may even be added as a vanilla feature. There are workarounds but none are particularly clean.

It has brakes, just no power. Railroader’s in game editor/coding does not support locomotives with more than one set of driving wheels/set of cylinders. Further mods or vanilla game development may introduce this later.

The lead unit runs out of fuel and water. It'll still function fine when it does. It's really only there for lights and brakes.

Minor nitpick, but Does the locomotive have the distinct double-chuff of an articulated? It sounds like its only running off of a single set of cylinders.
