Most of you got it right: Passing allowed at speeds not exceeding 40 kilometers per hour. You will mainly find this small light signal at railway yards where the local speed is 40, and where there is no place for a high signal. These miniatures are of course also a lot cheaper. As a train driver you know after passing a green signal that the next signal can never show red. And after passing a speed sign that allows a higher speed, you may increase your speed. Dit kleine lichtsein vind je vooral op emplacementen waar de plaatselijke snelheid 40 is, en waar geen plek is voor een hoog sein. Deze miniatuurtjes zijn natuurlijk ook een stuk goedkoper. Als machinist weet je na het passeren van een groen sein dat het volgende sein nooit rood kan tonen. En na het passeren van een snelheidsbordje dat een hogere snelheid toelaat, mag je je snelheid verhogen.

Heb je wel eens opgemerkt dat de kleurvolgorde van deze seinen als ze gekanteld zijn diverse volgordes hebben? In de meest voorkomende variant is het boven groen,rood links en geel rechts en vroeger rood boven,groen links en geel rechts maar voor de gekantelde zijn meerdere mogelijk. Heb jij de tijd nog meegemaakt van de laaggeplaatste SA seinen d.w.z. seinen met een kleurwisselaar?

Within a short time there we had a two stripe, a one stripe, then that two stripe. I have no idea what they are for. I've not tried to "decode" them and they are not )pictorially at least) in the wayback machine document I have for a reference. My favorite sign though is one that appears on non-electrified track, a short distance AFTER the electrification is gone that tells the driver, in essence, "You've been screwed, there is no power here." Of course, if the driver has not already noticed "there is no power here" there is a problem between his ears. {^_-}

@@Wizardess What are you referring to? The¨dwarf¨signal? Which stripes do you mean? It has happend that an 2 EMU´s was mistakenly put on an unelectrified piece of track. EMU´s 331 and 333 were put on the track to Winterswijk coming out of ZutphenI could not find the foto on the web but it is featured in on the books i have(Elektrische treinen in Nederland part 2). I miss riding on these trains such nostalgia.

Wait after you pass a great you can have a red signal. That is strange. I would expect at least a yellow. Then a red were I work.

Several interesting indications along that route: 1:10 - green dwarf 1:49 - diagonal light indication 2:05 - two horizontal white lights 4:02 - speed increase 130 for this track and left-mounted 120 speed for the track to the right, with indicator arrows 4:28 - station approach sign 12:52 speed decrease to 80 sign 16:50 - "V" and light to left on platform 17:10 - horizontal light indication

And now the meanings: *Green dwarf signal:* proceed signal indicates 40kph, not necessarily the full line speed. Dwarf signals are commonly used for shunting control in many countries; since they are not adequately visible at high speeds, they are only suitable for controlling trains at low speeds. Normally signals are placed near the driver's eye height. *Diagonal stripe:* repeater signal indicating the main signal ahead is showing a proceed aspect. Notice the number plate below says "4R" while the next main signal is "4". *Two lights:* is ignored by trains. It indicates to track workers when a train is approaching, allowing them to get clear before it arrives. *Indicator arrows:* also a common feature to disambiguate signs applying to only one of the adjacent tracks. A different form of arrow may be used, on route-signalling railways (not NS, but UK and Japan) to indicate when a sign applies to a diverging route but not the straight one. *Station approach:* a prompt to check whether the timetable calls for a stop at that station, and if so, to plan the braking sequence. On some railways the name of the station is also provided on these signs. *Speed limit advance warning:* these are placed at normal service braking distance to the commencement of the lower limit, and are backed up by the cab signalling system. In the UK they are known as Morpeth warnings; search that term if you want to know why. *"V" platform light:* indicates to platform staff when the controlling signal has been cleared; they're not supposed to close the doors until it has. It helps to protect against "ding ding and away" accidents, where the driver forgets to check the signal after receiving a departure indication from the platform staff or train guard. *Horizontal stripe:* repeater signal indicating the main signal ahead is showing stop.

@@Kromaatikse One small correction, the horizontal stripe means the next signal is not allowing a clear pass. It can also indicate "flashing yellow", which is drive on sight (SPAD) instructions. This happens when trains needs to combine on the platform.

Well i had a debate with train driver on a Raliway forum who explained that is in fact not a¨Dwarf¨signal but a lower placed signal sign not that i care which is funny because i found it an autistic trait and i happen to be one and i still do not care if it´s a Dwarf or a lower placed signal. As a supplement the speed increase is not entirely correct as it is just a maximum speed indication and Prorail has stopped placind the triangle shaped green sign and remaing signs are being replaced by square ones. The green ones use to mean maximum speed on a long stretch of track(like in between cities)and the square ones more temporary speed limits.

05:17 - Blue diamond with a 2 in it. "Two car" trains stop here. 05:19 - "Threecar" trains stop here. 05:22 - "Four or Six" car trains stop here. etc 05:35 - I don't give a dingle how long your train is you must stop here if not sooner. 13:53 - speed better be below the new speed limit of 80 or you may find yourself hanging up your spurs, so to speak. 17:10 - Oh waitaminit, I'm 12 cars, aren't I. 17:35 - blue diamond with top half stopping point for coming in straight and the bottom half for a short train coming in from the crossover mid station. {^_^}

Dwarf signal, can display the 3 main aspect. Green = proceed at max 40kmh, Yellow = proceed at max 40kmh, expect stop, Red = Block ahead occupied, do not pass without permission. Apart from these signals, it can display the unusual aspects like flashing yellow = proceed with caution (usually when coupling on thus occupied block). These are placed on tracks with a max speed of 40kmh, where they are favourable due to their visibility, like on shunt tracks or platform tracks. A high, or main signal can display the same aspects, but with green, will allow linespeed, upto 140km on conventional tracks. These are used as regular trackside signals and can be equiped with a number board which can display some or any of the ATB speeds. Is dit goed genoeg voor een pinneke meester?

Gaan er ook weleens duiven aan wildpoepen doen? Dat je bijvoorbeeld gewoon met 140 het land aan het doorracen bent en out of de blue er een duif aan komt poepen die een klets op jouw trein bonjouneert?

Several people have pointed out that the dwarf signal only permits proceeding at 40kph, not necessarily at full line speed. In other respects it is obeyed the same as a main signal. However, I haven't yet seen an explanation of why a dwarf signal is used here, in a busy location that has plenty of room to mount a main signal head. I believe this is a platform that doesn't usually see traffic (at least not through traffic) in this direction, so the dwarf signal is fitted as a way to allow a train to arrive under main signal control, and then depart in the opposite direction. Using a dwarf signal to terminate a route signalled by a main signal would not be a good idea, because the dwarf signal is much harder to see.

Ik neem aan dat je bedoelt dat het met maximaal 40 km/h voorbijgereden mag worden en dat een eventueel volgend sein minimaal geel zal tonen. Vraag aan jou:Waar staat een laag geplaatst P sein?

@@CabviewHolland Ik ben wel benieuwd naar je volgende! Al sta ik soms versteld van wat Prorail bedenkt en waarom ze vaak dure oplossingen bedenken neem Hilversum notabene waar ik ben geboren als voorbeeld met op Sportpark 2 uitrijseinen met lichtbalk terwijl je daar toch maar met 40 door de bocht mag en de situatie komende uit Bussum waar je altijd de instructies moet krijgen van lichtseinen terwijl het emplacement toch maar met 40 maar berijden,ik zie het wel verkeerd.

@@bartrazin Uitrijsein Sportpark richting Hilversum heeft een lichtbak dat geel-4 kan tonen omdat het eerstvolgende sein via spoor 4 groen knipper kan tonen als er door het wissel moet gereden worden.

Voorbijrijden toegestaan met maximaal 40 km/h. Deze zijn bijvoorbeeld te vinden op emplacementen, of voor wisselstraten waar niet harder gereden mag worden dan 40 km/h (zoals dus hier die van Amsterdam). Zo, nu de rest van de video maar eens gaan bekijken :P

Voorbijrijden met beperkte snelheid. Wordt er een getal getoond, dan is de beperkte snelheid het getal x10 km/h. Wordt er geen getal getoond, dan is de beperkte snelheid 40 km/h. Bij laag geplaatste seinen is de snelheid nooit hoger dan 40 km/h. Omdat het groen sein is, zal het volgende sein geen rood sein zijn maar groen of oranje (waarbij het sein erna rood kan zijn, dus je moet als meester dan in staat zijn om te kunnen stoppen voor dat volgende sein).

Dwergseinen, voorbij rijden met max 40 km/h. Een groen dwergsein betekend dat het volgende sein geen stop zal tonen. Wat me wel opvalt bij stations met perronfaseringen is dat het laatste "hoge" sein geel licht uitstraat als een van de volgende dwergseinen geen groen toont.

@@CabviewHolland Aanvulling, bij het inrijden van Haarlem is wel een vergelijkbare situatie, maar dan met een hoog sein. Ondanks dat het inrijsein geel is, is het eerst volgende sein niet stop.

Ws niet, maar het scheelt in de kosten en de plaatselijke snelheid is 40, op sein, dus het scheelt ook nog eens een snelheidsbord.
