As you can see by the comments, you may encounter more issues with this. Personally, I would have added a hose tap at the drums drain, plus additional taps for future expansion. Stick that pump up under the building for protection. Get a utility sink out at the outhouse...and prep it for snow. Plus an overflow for the tank to keep out water rot in the future. Nice work still.
@CyberviewU

Consider getting water from the creek with poly tubing. Use a catchment box or perforated pipe covered with screen to gravity feed it to a tote just beyond the power house to save $ on wire. A 500 feet roll of half inch poly is $38 at Home Depot. Then you can use an inline turbine to create power 24/7 before and after the water flows to the tote with an overflow back to the creek or pond and a tube to the cabin. Search KZbin for ways to make your own turbines from a DC motor that you have in your stash. The hydro setups are way too expensive. See the Land to House channel for tips. Inline fan blades and waterwheels work on water velocity and are less dependent on pressure like turbine jets.

Good lesson for all to see. Thanks for sharing it. Construction screws have tensile strength but poor shear strength. You can double up a floor joist with nails (a nail-lam) but will fail inspection if held together with screws. I would doubt your wood box could have held back the force of 8000# of water even had it been constructed with nails. The weight wasn't vertical and you had a lot of leverage working against you. Glad it went back into the tote frame. Be sure to paint or cover it so the sun doesn't destroy the plastic.
@cmosphoto1
@cmosphoto1 4 жыл бұрын
Yep... I knew about the lack of shear strength on the screws... Oh well... Lesson learned. That's why they build houses with nails because of the shear strength and they don't have 10 thousand dollar budget for structural screws.

another great way to start a siphon is to seal one end of your hose, then stick the other end as deep into the water as you can. When you remove the seal from the other end of the hose, the water rushes in to fill the pressurized hose, transitioning to a slight vacuum, creating suction. That's generally what I do! :P

@@cmosphoto1 another reason to design things accordingly..I listen to this Missouri Quaker that has a homestead ..and he explained it well..he had all his water recovery, like your bust-up in Winter,..then he wised up and moved them into his Shed..build a combination Woodshed, Barn, Workshop, Garbage Disposal- toilet, water storage, ..it could be built like a small Earthship --buried but with a solarium on the open end..maybe use the culvert material as a round roof -half-moon ..have three adjoining and recover the water with gutters that run into the water tank..with lumber as walls..covered by a water membrane..then burry it....also grow food in solarium..it acts as an antifreeze buffer..put a door between solarium and storage shed underground..for walls, you could also use cob ..bags of earth..stacked or recycled tires, rammed with earth if you build 20 feet long or bigger..if you are playful, build a tower to put your storage tanks and have gravity water -energy storage..pump water in the day using solar..shower at night, use gravity..but insulate the tower and conduits..best is to put all the water lines inside a 4 inch ABS Pipe..seal the ends with foam..hope for the best..bury it or leave it easily accessible for inspection ..maybe put hey around it..in a trench that can be opened ...alternative is to build the shednext to the pond, put in 3 -45 gallon tanks to process the water from the pond..first tank is fine sand..overflow goes to a tank with activated charcoal and fine sand. thirds tank is your water for use..it is the minimalist system..i can send you the link of a guy in myanmar-burma that explains it well in english

Burned the evidence 😂 I’m curious do you need to treat the water? and what about adding an outdoor shower ????

Gotta get my hot water sorted before I do an outdoor shower... The hot water was sort of shelved when I lost all my water.

I have two on those totes without the cage that I have sitting plywood covered blue board in an enclosed area under our cabin. We have to have anything plastic in an enclosed area because those bear pests like to bite and claw anything plastic including gas cans. I haven’t had any problems with our totes exploding after about 6 years. Yeah they look funny but they work great.

Make sure you annotate and link this video to your previous video so no one copies your mistake. Still an awesome system, once you get the kinks out. .

You needed to get YOUR end of the hose, under the water... Then cover it. Then pull it out, still covered. Get it to ground level, then uncover it.

You pull the hose really fast or instead of all that effort, you just use the palm of your hand to plug the end and pull it out normally.
