Why you are not talking about the lens hood, lol? Why your camera friend has it installed the other way, did he need access to the filter (moving it around?) lol? Saves so much trouble not to get your front element wet, if you don't want that.

Even if your body and lenses are weather sealed, water can still get into the moving bits of zoom lenses. So it’s best to use primes, or at least take measures to prevent a lot of water from getting into the sliding parts of any zoom lenses you use in the rain.
@tehMaloWalo2 жыл бұрын
that makes no sense. if the lens is weather sealed it doesn’t matter if it’s zoom or not. it’s weather sealed no matter what… lmao
@joelmulder2 жыл бұрын
@@tehMaloWalo Oh what wonderful bliss you must live in, thinking "If it says it's weather sealed, no water could possibly come in". Something being sealed doesn't mean it's impervious to anything coming through that seal. There is no waterproofing, there is only water resistance. And weather sealed lenses can resist weather pretty well, but only to a certain degree. Think about it. Have you ever seen an underwater camera with a telescoping zoom lens? No. Because if it moves, it has openings. And if it has openings, things can get through. Weather sealing does do a lot to make lenses (any gear for that matter) resistant to water entry. But unless the lens is a solid piece of plastic, if you expose it to enough water, long enough, and under the right circumstances, chances are water will get in. Which is of course why the people who use lenses in bad weather for a living have them insured against water damage. But most people watching this video, probably don't have that, so it's probably good if they take some extra measures to keep their gear safe than just trust a "water resistance" claim that isn't even externally verified like the IPX ratings on phones and other tech are.
