It is about being competitive. In a challenge you want to be the quickest, fastest, and the first. It looks good not necessarily looking down, putting others down, etc. You want to be the best at what you do. That's what Joel does. He keeps fit and in shape, has a high metabolism, that's beneficial in professional eating and competition.

That is exactly what I was thinking at the start. I would think tearing the bread apart and either letting it soak up the meat juices or dunking it in the broth. Otherwise, it gets cold and tough.
