I was 12 at the time ,me and my mate had sent off to the Rainbow fan club for tickets but they never arrived so his dad wrote to them just before the show. We were told to knock on the back door which we did and were let in and led backstage down a corridor passing Richies dressing room . We were given a huge green sticker each which were backstage passes. I,ll never forget that night.

@@highwaystar3780 I've watched vids of Jimmy Page cueing Led Zeppelin th same way. Th GREAT bands improvise so much each night, it becomes necessary if they are going to be tight. & THAT'S what separates th Great bands frm th mediocre: fresh, improvised on fire solos, yet still tight as a band! That's why Led Zep & Ritchie Blackmore (whether in Deep Purple, or Rainbow) are legends. Humble pie was this way as well (& we ALL kno how great Steve Marriott was!) When I saw: Led Zep, Humble Pie, early Alice Cooper, & dozens of other guitar orientated blues based rock bands in th 70s & 80s, th awesome ones all did this. Greetings frm Detroit, Michigan, USA😎

I have n ver been able to describe why Ritchie has always been my favourite guitarist. I do know that he makes mistakes yet he is always searching for something on the guitar. It always comes out amazing.
