Dio is regarding as one of the best singers across genres, even by people that don't favour rock/metal singers. Graham bonnet does an amazing job at this song, which is one of the most demanding Dio songs in terms of endurance. Everyone knows Dio does it better, but Graham did about as good as anyone that isn't Dio in his own style too.

Memories... If you have been to Download consider that back in 1980 the infield at Donington Park was a single hill as the earth tiers were created in the late 80's for MotoGP. The stage was down near the Old Hairpin and the crowd stretched back to Coppice corner. 100,000 people - complete with quad towers, so speaker stacks either side of the stage and 2 more stacks behind the crowd. Over the years I have worked loads at Donington, and when the sunsets and all is dark and peaceful I think back to that night and Blackmore's Stargazer solo echoing through the trees - what a time to be a teenager. Fabulous.

@@martinzavadil984 That's a cliche and intellectually lazy response. Of course we can compare them, art exists to be compared. Furthermore, measuring vocal greatness is quite easy. To put it simply: who has greater vocal power, who sings clearer, who has a higher and lower range, who has the better ability to control their tone. Or in even simpler terms, who is the least replicable.

First time hearing this version. All I can say is WOW! If someone held a pointy stick to my head and made me pick the best version, I would have to go with the RJD vocal version. But there really is nothing wrong with this rendition. Cozy is spot on with his drumming, and his rhythm section partner Roger is in the pocket with his playing. I forget that Don Airey was a member of Rainbow at one time. Great vocal by Graham, on a par with RJ's performance. And what accolade is left for the genius of Ritchie. This is perfect.

I was at the front left of the crowd aged 21 in platform shoes standing in 6 inches of mud. I knew I was slowly sinking as the day went on. In the evening, at the end of Rainbow's set, I tried to walk away. As I lifted my feet out of the mud, the soles my shoes came off and stayed in the mud. I walked back to the railway station in bare feet wearing only the tops of the shoes! No doubt some archeologist will find the soles in a 1000 years time in a Timewatch dig and try to figure out what kind of shoes they came from!

I just recently ran into this and I was highly impressed, that how well Bonnet could actually do this rather difficult ''Dio-number''. If only he would have stayed on the band, practised bit to be more consistent, he could have easily been on par with Dio, having his own style however. He truly had great pipes and sort of range, which suits into Dio-era material of Rainbow rather well.

I need to say that after so so many years of '' being in love '' with all Rainbow opus, that I still can't say who's version is more dear to me. Is it Dio's ( R.I.P. ), or Bonet's. They did their role in the band with such a passion and sincerity, burning on every stage they ever walked. So they are powerfull and big booth, in their own particular way. Someone mentioned in form of a question; why Bonet get fired. There is a place on Y.tube where Ritchie explains his reasons for this, for me, not so important reason to act so drasticly. I think he made an error, but today, after more than quarter of century, I'm asking everybody; should we really give such an importance to all this??!! I only speak about the fact of Graham's getting fired. Ritchie and Bonet still have good life and legacy, Dio became immortal, the music they made is still refreshing to hear after all this time... Who could wish for more?!
