I first heard this song on the radio back in '93 and loved it instantly. The problem is that I couldn't find out who the artist was. So after endless visits to record stores sampling random recordings and thousands of dollars poured into CD's, I finally found this song on KZbin -- one of the great miracles of our time. :)

Ritchie Blackmore is the lead guitarist and he formed the band after leaving Deep Purple. Blackmore is one of my absolute favorite of that era of classic rock guitar players. He always managed to infuse everything he played with emotion with a smooth delivery and precision.

“You put me in a deep freeze!” The best line of the song. Funny you mention Whitesnake. Ddavid Coverdale sang in Deep Purple, from where Rainbow came from.

Saw Rainbow 3 times. Twice with Ronnie James Dio and once with Graham Bonnett. So wished I could of saw them with Joe Lynn Turner. But whoever the singer was I was always waiting and listening for Blackmores solos. Always worth the wait.

From what I understand this song was a Top 40 hit back in its day. Definitely a great Melodic Rock song, it’s foreigner esque but a little heavier with some groove to it. Classic song.

"Stone Cold" was the lead single from Rainbow's 1982 album Straight Between the Eyes. The song ruled hard rock radio that year. A lot of eighties rock sounded like Foreigner. I suppose a lot of bands back then felt they had to keep up with the chart toppers. The ensuing sonic homogeneity on commercial radio stations fueled the burgeoning new wave/punk rock sensibilities of the era in the U.S., especially on college radio stations, which in response, crafted programming that by the nineties became known as "alternative" rock. Those stations introduced American teenagers to British bands like Joy Division, The Smiths, and The Cure, as well as to American bands like R.E.M., The Violent Femmes, The Replacements, and Sonic Youth. The connection to Whitesnake is more direct, as both bands have roots in Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore formed Rainbow in 1975 after leaving Deep Purple over musical differences with the other members of the band. David Coverdale formed Whitesnake in 1978, two years after leaving Deep Purple. "Since You've Been Gone" is another big hit for Rainbow. That song rocks like it's from the seventies.

I happened to go backstage, to try and meet him before the show. He took one look at me and asked if I would do security that night LOL😂 Afterwards, after emptying the place, I got to hang out with him and Craig Goldy and some others for a bit. Carried Craig's guitar out to his car. Great show, great guy.
